Thread: Tandava, thank you
Because the scroll rate on the main board is so horrible, I know this thread is going to be buried on page 8 by tomorrow morning. And the shame of that is because one person created a post of such eloquence and insight that it deserves to be preserved.
With apologies to Tandava, I want to quote her words here in their entirety. Thank you Tandava. You've spoken from the hearts of many of us.
Most of the entertainers in public cantinas are AFK grinders or not real entertainers because you've (those that resent entertainers) have already chased them out.
What's left are what you have left there for your own purposes. Healing bots that are not entertaining. That's what the loudest of you wanted, that's what you get, and those of you who might have appreciated real entertainers sure didn't do much to try to stop the ones ruining the cantina atmosphere.
I don't care what you feel is valid or cost effective or fits in with your sense of overhead. A service industry is as much entitled to paymentas a production industry. You pay for it every day in real life pay for it here. You pay for concerts, you pay for cable TV, you pay for a play or show, you pay to be entertained. And you pay to be healed by nurses, doctors, chiropracters, pharmacists. You pay a charge to walk into a bar if there is a live band there or your drink costs go to pay for them. Economies in game work that way too.
Its not easy to dance for hours and try to come up with things to say to engage customers who are hostile or who don't know you just like it isn't in real life. And its time and time IS money. I don't care about tips, yes I was always poor as a dancer even working a cantina for 6 hours I made decent money and was so exhausted in real life at the mental efforts for that money it exasperates me that people thinking pushing a button to have a game shoot something is any more work. Its a lot easier to hit that hot key and kill then it is to be social even when you like doing it. And its much harder when you're being called names or abused sometimes.
Healers and entertainers are not props and punishment for those of you who like shooting things. They are valid professions that are worthwhile in their own right played by people who deserve common respect and decency.
Master dancers and the big social bands of last month are gone because of the endless abuse, endless lack oftips (and dancers like to do things like travel, change planets, buy a house, see friends, have parties, wear clothes just like other people do) endless sexual harrassment and abuse by patrons and having no control over the minority that takes the profession as a way to mindless achievement to satisfy some goal in their own head.
Dancers and Musicians that care have ALWAYS complained about underwear dancing, innane sexual overtures, afk dancers, dancers spamming anything as well as customers coming in with abuse and foul language, assumptions, dueling and pets and abusing the space etc. The dancer forum has always tried to dissuade or come up with ways to deal with their image when it can be so easily ruined by people who "aren't there to entertain." We can't stop them or prevent them in public cantinas. People get tired of being used and abused so they've gone.
You want a real entertainer you'll most likely find them in a private venue, doing a by invitation request or turning in their points for other professions. Not because they don't enjoy it, but for not even getting the basic respect of a human being playing this game the way they want to.
You find a real enterainer in public cantinas these daysthen you'd better thank them for being there and show a little appreciation or they'll be gone too, the grind of dancing and falling and dancing and falling wears us all down eventually. I've never afk'ed, macroed, underwear danced, I don't spam anyone anything and I know how to put on real entertainment shows. I left and started my own cantina and brought fantastic entertainers with me. And I have NO qualms kicking out entertainers who don't entertain patrons, or try to go afk, macro, are too licentious, or who ask for any money (my dancers are salaried and keep whatever tips the customers want to give them) but I also have NO qualms kicking out rude, demanding, non-roleplaying customers. We're there to entertain, if you dont want to be entertained then you dont come in ... ever. /banning is a good thing so is communication and respect.
The world has already told the real entertainers what they think of them, the entertainers are just reacting like any normal person would in the real world.
