Thread: Entertainers = second class
What we need, and has been noted elsewhere, is a unified voice. A chorus will be heard where a single voice is lost upon the wind.

Why is it that dancers cant buff themselves? Doctors can, why shouldnt we?
Its a coding issue. If we were able to buff ouselves we would get xp for it. I believe this is being looked into.
Doctors buff in only a minute, dancers need 8 min to ensure a good buff.
This can be greatly reduced to 3 minutes 20 seconds. I do 3:30 just to round it out.
Besides, in my oppinion we should be able to buff not only the primary but also secondary stats.
This has been bandied about with equal and valid points on both sides of the issue.
How do yall feel about it? Shouldnt the developpers become a bit more aware of this issue?
If you read through the other articles in the forum you will get the over all feel of our community. As far as getting the devs to be aware. . . I think they are. Just so many resources to go around.Panthu has been doing an awesome job as the new Dancer Corr. If anyone can get the devs attention she can.

But the bottom line is: Lei is correct. We will remain 'second class' until a single front is established with clear objectives and explicit requests. Certain issues obviously need addressed, and must be addressed by the community as a whole (including the thoughts/opinions of non-Entertainers and buffbots as well).Why do all you whiners want this profession to be any different to real life ?
Believe me in real life entertainers and musicians are second class citizens..and if you whine about it in real life people tell you to get a proper job only a few make it to hollywood..but some of us are hapy to do it for the smell of the crowd and the roar of the greasepaint.. if you dont like it do something different... Jeez the smugglers will be asking for 4 passports next ....lOL

Erm....Dancers in SWG are rarely seen as entertainers. Believe me, with the repetitive dances and limited number of flourishes available to them, the allowance for free-range creativity is limited. The crowd doesn't roar every time your lights flash. It's considered to be an actual profession. Look at us as factors in successful raids, healers of battle fatigue and wounds, and general therapy for those that have been staring at bouncing quenkers all day.
Excuse me but, this game isn't real life.
There are many entertainers who want our profession to be just as valid and respected as every other profession in this game. And, we want to be able to make money and be useful to ourselves, just like every other profession. Otherwise, why have this profession in the first place? Why tout interdependency among all professions when the entertainers are seriously lacking?
I never quite understand why some people don't get this and just like to contribute to the low morale we already have. People need to step away for a second and just consider looking at it from another person's point of view and show people support rather than continuously knock them down. I have never *once* on these boards knocked another person's profession or choices. In fact, I have pretty much cheered every time another profession gets a little something extra. I only ask the same kind of human kindness and courtesy.

I am an actress/singer in real life, and I must have missed the whole "you're a second class citizen" memo. I'm a classically trained operatic soprano, and as such, have been exposed to a world of art and culture that too few young adults have any experience with these days. As for the game, well, my 14.99 is just as green as yours, sweet cheeks, and I'll challenge anyone who says otherwise.
Yep, I think people in the arts irl have a word for people who think they should get a "real" job. /snicker
Beyond that... it is the Dev team that will decide where we fit in ultimately and they are a diverse group of artists themselves.
Thanks for your input, glad you think we are working well for you... but we'll keep on fighting to work with the Devs on our position here in the Dancer forum.
I think Panthu is doing a great job for us and I am optimistic that things will get better. I saw some of her enthusiasm first hand at the Fan Fest this weekend. 
I just want to ask all of you who read the Dancer forum to please share the knowledge that we all contribute here with your in-game peers. One thing I found disconcerting at the entertainer forum during FanFest, so few entertainers seem to read the forums. There were a few dancers who had no idea just what it actually takes to give a mind buff. Some of them admitted they didn't read the forums at all. What was most annoying to me was that when someone pointed out that Tiaga did the math and testing for us, and has an excellent post stickied in the Entertainer forum that details what duration of dance and/or number of flourishes is necessary to produce a buff, one dancer scoffed and said "oh that's too confusing." I mean, hello? She'd rather sit at a panel and ask Kirk Black, lead designer, to explain mind buffing - and he can't!
Yes, there's certainly something wrong with the fact that our buff process is completely undocumented, but a lot of things in-game are. The bio-engineering process, crafting experimentation, etc. Lots of things needed the players to perform trial and error and document the system themselves.
Well rant mode off. I just wanted to ask that we share this knowledge we have accumulated with the performers who don't (or won't) read the forums. We are the proactive ones, I think, the ones who will keep our profession viable come what may. Go dance!
Fuscihia why the narrowminded retort??? Out of all the messages here i find the opener for this thread the most realistic and pure reason fo wanting to entertain...its the reason I do it...

react as though they have read something completely different... I have been in the entertainment business now for
20years (since I was 15) yes ive been to some good places and met some great people.. but finiacially it sucks and in Musical theater youve got to hit 20 audition failiures to get - months straight work some years.. maybe you are super optomistic and
win every audition you go for.. but it gets to the point where sme days you feel like cattle in front of an audition panel made up of people you went to drama school with.. but if you stand around moaning about it you will make nothing and be nothing.. that's the point I am trying to make.. not to diss anyone.. well good riddance to me I really cant be bothered sitting around trying to talk reasonably to a pack of spoilt schoolkids who cry wolf and troll if someone disagrees with them or tries to inject a little realism..one part of the theatre I do detest are the little madams and queens who stand around with false cheesy grins and whoops hugging each other all day....funny how few of them you actually see in the West End... lol
