Thread: PLEASE Fix Flos on High Level Dances

For those who have made it and those who are close, am I the ONLY one frustrated by the fact that so many of our high level dances gain only four new flourishes? We work so hard to get more Dance Knowledge - I made lyrical this morning, and as suspected, only the first 4 flos are original and fit the dance style.

While I'm ranting <g>.. Can we puh-lease address the jerkiness when transitioning from flourish back to dance on dances like formal and lyrical? If you time it JUST right, you can go straight from flo to flo, to avoid it, but even a split second off, and the jerk is there. I was part of a group performance on Formal Saturday night, and it's painful to watch something that would otherwise be just perfect (accompanied by an awesome Ballad) get ruined by the jerky steps.

Kay. I can't get in to either server I play on, so I needed to vent.

Anyone been able to time these flourishes to avoid this, or work in some of the later 4 that don't fit the styles to keep it from looking horrid?

I'd like to second these comments and maybe expand em a bit. Not because I am unhappy with what the dancer skills have made possible. On the contrary, I think it is a fantastic addition to the SWG environment. My comments are suggestions for further empowering the practitioners of this new art form.

Smoothing out the dances would be a great enhancement. Macros provide dancers with the ability to coreograph complex sequences. They can have a great effect. But in order for it to work a couple of things are needed.

Failed moves need to have the same tick length as successes. For example, in Formal, Flourish 1 can either succeed or fail (stumbles). No problem so far. But the fail move has different timing from the success move so the pause timers get thrown off.

Flouishes should be synched in duration with the pause timer. By this I mean, if a move takes 11 ticks of pause to run that's fine, but if it takes 10.63 ticks then there is an inaccessible glitch that the coreographer can't smooth.

Flourishes need to have consistent start/end points. If the fill dance has hands low, then the flourishes need to start with hands at that level and end with hands at that level. What applies to hands applies similarly to all other body parts.

Wish list :

More dances (Latin, Tap, Soft-shoe, Clogging, etc)

Couples dances (Fred and Ginger) - I think that is such an ability were made available to the players as a whole if would have extremely interesting social consequences. Right now, non-professional dancers are limited to a single rather silly animation. If couples (grouped) could waltz ...

More Flourishes for the dances

No delays on starting dances.

No drifting dances. All flourishes should return the dancer to the starting point on the floor.

Be able to move while dancing, not just turn. Dancers should be able to maneuver in a crowded space without breaking the dance. Dancers should also be able to promenade or parade.

Be able to transition from one dance to another and back smoothly, without delays, stops, glitches or (public) announcements. To mix the moves from one dance with those of another.

Be able to make MPEG(or whatever) videos using the 3rd person camera.

Provide a Dancemaker tool for 3rd party dance add-ins.

Nunc: I agree about the turning and moving thing. I enjoyed taking large spins across the dance floor using formal while working my way up to novice dancer--although I have no idea how it looks to other people (is it nice, or does it break on the way to everyone else so that it doesn't look good?) By turning at the right times during formal's /flourish 1, it was reasonable to move from point to point (although I ended up inside people more often than I'd like.)

For quick transitions from one dance style to another, check out the /changedance command. This will let you switch from one dance to another--it's not totally seamless, but it's much much better than stopping and then restarting. I now use a /startdance basic as my only starter, then have /changedance macros on other quickbar slots for all the other dances I want to use. It's quick enough that I can drop into another style for just a moment to get a specific flourish, or alternate between styles for... well... style. (Again, no idea if it looks right to everybody watching.)

I would like to see the fall animation on the Poplock 2 dance changed to one that fits the style of dance instead of the formal fall. It is agitating to be doing the robot and suddenly go into a formal fall.

And yes I'd like more flourishes for the higher dances. maybe they didnt' think anyone would get there this soon and they are working on them? You should get at least 6 new ones per dance. And if you get popular 2 you should have at least 2 flourshes that are very different from popular 1. I personally can't see a difference in the flourishes. I am only continuing to working on dance knowledge because I want the exotic dances. *sigh* Or else I would do Tech first.

I also think the ability to dance on tables should be added but I know that won't happen.

Hypatian, I am in your debt. /thank

I do crave however more complete documentation of the command language. What is your source? Where are these secrets revealed?

Aye, Kurda, I agree - there are very few differences between dances like Poplock and 2, Formal and 2, etc. And it's very frustrating to workup and just get the same old thing. As for whether I'm there too fast - there are some at Master Dancer already (I did Entertainer first, and have Novice Musician and some skills in that tree as well), so I believe it's just not getting addressed.

The issues were brought up in beta, when they moved BOTH exotics to master dancer, along with throughout, but nothing's been done. *shrugs*

Poplock's not the only dance that has that stupid formal fall - and it's frustrating to be doing a particular dance style and suddenly switch, only to know it means you're gonna land on your bottom

I was venting last night <g> Is just good to know I'm not alone
