Thread: Dancer need Dev. Team Help Please
Hi ! Love the game.
We dancers need help though please.
1. 1/2 of our flourishes go with the song and 1/2 look really bad. For example, lyrical 2 is 4 nice ballet moves and 4 old moves from old dances that totally do not fit. Also, why not let master dancers pick flourishes from any dance and combine then for very unique dancing.
2. We need to be able to move while dancing even if its like 1/8 speed without stopping and restarting. This would help with pets coming into the club with lag warping us all over and people running in the club and standing inside of us.
3. Really, at Master dance level and wearing the revealing skin wrap we kidna have nothing to look foward to. We need some experimental moves or something to keep us dancing as we pile up super high exps above the master level.
4. Really need help with the falling rate at master level. I work in a club in rl and even with drinking and high heals we do not have any dancers fall, even in a week maybe in 3 weeks we will have one and thats a new girl mostly. This is at a really nice club with over 40 girls dancing.
5. Stamania drain should go down a tad at master level or maybe as we keep building exp after master level let it go down very slowly so we keep dancing.
6. Fame would be a nice idea but sadly a lot of dancers simply stand there and don't even flourish because they don't need dance exp and they don't want to run out of stamia so fast.
7. It would be really nice to have a totally defensive based soft style of Kung Fu to use when we go hunting with groups, like Tai Chi, Ying Yee or Pa Kua. It would be very defensive and weak on the attack damage side but it would have the best dodges and defensive moves etc. Maybe this could be an advanced profession and dance and music would have to be mastered it could be similar to the Bene Jesuit witches in Dune with soft martial arts and the power of voice attacks.
I can agree with some of your suggestions.
Others are simply not possible, and others not probable....<kung fu for fighting?>....we have no need for this. We are dancers.
While I do plan on posting my thoughts on the topic of dancers for now Ill just give one suggestion that I think is very fair to ask for.
**There is no reason what so ever that Footloose2 and Formal2 should be achievable under the <entertainer> tree. They are not dancers. Here we are Master Dancers and are denied two dance styles?**
Suggest the dev's reconsider that.

The idea behind giving dances and instruments to Master Entertainer that are not otherwise available was to give people a reason to achieve it. You need only one or two branches of the Entertainment Tree to go to Novice Dance, Music, or ID. There should be some sort of 'boon' or 'bonus' for mastering the entire tree, and that is what they represent.
I don't think, though, that it would be unreasonable to grant the Master Ent song to _master_ musicians, or the dances to Master dancers, however.
Trust me though - you're not missing out on much with footloose2 <g>
Most of these I've already posted last week...
As for "we're dancers" not fighters I'd like to point out that Master Dance gets +7 to melee and ranged defense... Throught Earth history at least dance and martial arts have been related now and again. Chinese Lion Dance was, and still is, performed by martial artists. It was used to continue practice when their more overt practice was outlawed. Anyone that knows Chinese martial arts and has seen good Lion Dance can easily see the martial arts in it. And that's only one example...Brazilian Capoera is another.
One of my suggestions was to add increasing bonusses to melee and ranged intit through the Dance Techniques branch culminating in the +7 found under Master Dance.
I'd also like to see the restriction that you have to be dancing to execute special effects be removed. I find it rather silly you can't craft while you dance but you can ONLY manipulate special effects WHILE dancing...

I like that idea. Can't you sort of do that already, though, by using /changedance between flourishes or is the delay too long between changes?

Another good idea, but unlikely to be added until after the big bugs are fixed and the first expansions released. (i.e., six months or more.)

This is the same end-game dilemma faced by any profession. "Where do I go from here?". The answer, as with the others, is that you either find new avenues of roleplay within your profession or you take up a second profession. I'm really hoping that someday there'll be some quests for the elite-tier masters that will lead to new abilities, but I wouldn't expect anything like that for a year at least.
4. Really need help with the falling rate at master level. I work in a club in rl and even with drinking and high heals we do not have any dancers fall, even in a week maybe in 3 weeks we will have one and thats a new girl mostly. This is at a really nice club with over 40 girls dancing.
Complaint falling on deaf ears, I'm afraid. This "feature" was some kind of gag introduced towards the end of beta. The person behind the entertaining design decided that we needed critical failures. Why? Who knows? No answer was ever givenas to what this added to the game or why we "needed" it. All you can do is roleplay around it. Supposedly, musicians also get critical failures but it either never happens or it's indistinguishable from the rest of the music 99% of the time.
5. Stamania drain should go down a tad at master level or maybe as we keep building exp after master level let it go down very slowly so we keep dancing.
Disagree here. That's what stat migration is for. If you want more stamina, sacrifice your other stats to get it. Use food and/or spice to extend your stamina. You don't suddenly achieve physical perfection by virtue of becoming a master.
6. Fame would be a nice idea but sadly a lot of dancers simply stand there and don't even flourish because they don't need dance exp and they don't want to run out of stamia so fast.
Not sure what kind of game mechanic you'd like to see for this. It's really a player socialization thing. Fame comes from being a great and accomplished entertainer. You could get a badge, I suppose, but that's really no different than having "Master Dancer" over your head.
7. It would be really nice to have a totally defensive based soft style of Kung Fu to use when we go hunting with groups, like Tai Chi, Ying Yee or Pa Kua.
Gotta disagree again. This is up there with the ideas people have about musicians giving combat buffs or charming animals, effectively turning them into EQ bards. There's already a combat style like you're describing - Teras Kasi Student. If you're maxed out on dance and you want to contribute to combat, then now's the time to start working towards it. It's no coincidence that many Teras Kasi students are dancers in their spare time. Going the opposite route, of being a dancer and then a martial artist as a hobby, shouldn't be that surprising either.
I realize that your goal is to somehow expand Master Dancer, but you need to realize that SWG is not designed as a "one job - one role" type of game. There's a reason you can buy all six starting novice skills at the beginning of the game. You've maxed out Dance? Then it's time to develop your character in a different direction and take up some new skills. Make them complementary ones, like music, ID, or tailoring. Make them non-complementary ones, like Droid Engineer or Pistoleer or Teras Kasi Student. Join the Galactic Civil War and take your talents to Anchorhead, where the rebels need all the entertainment they can get. Buy a house, set it up in the middle of the outback at a place where hunting parties travel by, and open your own cantina. Travel to Endor or Lok, where the high-level hunting parties are starving for entertainment and the wilderness is wild and unspoiled.
SWG is, more than most, a game where you get out of it what you put into it. It's not a game that leads you by the nose down a particular path as the "right way" to play. If youpigeonhole yourself by saying "I'm a master dancer, I won't be anything else" then you've voluntarily pushed your character into dead end.

The devs already DID reconsider it. Why do you think the dances under Master Entertainer are variations of other dances? When the realignment was originally announced back in beta, it was exotic and popular under there, if I remember correctly. You can imagine the hue and cry raised by the dancers. For whatever reason, the dancers were heard and the musicians were not.
Musicians, you say? Yes ,the musicians. There's a reason that few dancers bother with Master Entertainer. You aren't really missing out on anything by not having it. Some minor variations on dances you already have is all. Musicians, on the other hand lose both a unique song AND a unique instrument.
Music and ID XP come at twice the rate of dance XP. If you've already got Dance 4, then you can get ID 1-4 in a few hours by teaming with another entertainer and practicing on each other. You can get Music 4 in a couple of days. Heck, I've seen a musician go from novice entertainer to novice musician in a single day, because he spent the entire day playing at a cantina that constantly had a full group of entertainers. As a dancer, you've already done the hard work required for Master Entertainer. If you really want those missing dances, they're well within your reach. No change to Master Entertainer is required.

I agree with some points, especiall the falls and actions for master dancers.
When I became a master dancer, I no longer needed the xp so I stopped dancing as much in public cantinas. I now perform with a band and at private venues.
It simply looks bad when the failure rate for a master dancer is 20%! This is not at all realistic and there is no way to get better! Unlike the lower levels, you could look forward to lowering your failure rate as you advanced on lower leveled dances. But we are stuck with this on the high level dances forever. When doing a concert or performing with a band, too many falls just makes us look like we never practice! I have been to many dance performances and have never noticed a fall as significant as the ones in this game.
As for action, when you perform with a band of musicians, the dancers action should last as long as the musicians on a song...or close at least. I hate that I have to stop in the middle of a song or set just to rest while the musicians plug along. I understand why we tire faster but we tire far too fast for a master dancer....and far too fast to really put on a good show with synched dancers.
Spice makes you puke...very unprofessional. I have yet to find food that will work well...although I did get a nice buff from medic the other day. I have my action maxed.....can't change it anymore.
The devs know that most entertainers simply become roleplayers after they achieve their goals....so they should give us the tools to create great performances...lower the failure rate and make our action go down more slowly.

While I agree with most of your points, I do not this one. Movements within master level dances are generally longer, and more difficult, so requiring more action is very realistic. I believe that musicians use less action to help balance the fact that they make less xp per tick than dancers - by the fact that with no healing, they are able to go longer, things balance out a bit.
As for rehearsed performances, why bother with spice or sitting? Spend the additional cash to have very good medics standing by to heal - combat medics can even do so without having to be close enough to be *overly* noticable. I've been in a rehearsed performance that was nearly 30 minutes, with a large amount of coordinated lighting and effects, and without the medics standing by, it would not come close to being possible.
