Thread: Was I wrong when I tipped dancers?
I played on Bloodfin a long time. And always when I was in a cantina I tipped a dancer 100-2000 credits, depending on how wounded I was.
Now I am on Starsider and I am going for dancer/smuggler - hanging around in cantina's dancing and selling spices; a bit shady stuff like that. Anyway, I now notice that no one tips. In the last 3 days I earned about 2000 credits; thats all.
Some times people get in heavily wounded, see a lot of dancers with AFK tags above their head and guess who is getting the entertainment healing XP? Not me.
People either always scold at dancers for being AFK it seems, yet when I stop dancing, sit down, put up and AFK tag, go AFK, come back, take off the tag and start dancing again people start wondering if I am sane and didn't know I could macro dance?
Geez.... I'd say all we entertainers should just stop healing and leave them l33t d00d kiddies to themselves when their mind is shot to crap and they have 5k battle fatigue.
I have something to do now while dancing - orienting on what other professions go well with smugglers.
Send me a tell or email in game and I'll help you with some starter funds as well ![]()

I do not get a lot of tips for dancing. But I run faction destroy missions (both factions) for money, so I am getting by OK. Plus there is something incredibly satisfying about walking up to an NPC that is labeled as a criminal and shooting them in the head with a pistol at point blank range. Heh.
Anyway, some guys do tip, and I appreciate it very much.
Other guys say, "I wish I could tip you but I am broke." I hear that a lot. Now we can all be cynics and call them liars and cheapskates, but I believe them. While there are a few very rich people in the game, there are a lot of poor people.
When I was trying to get master dancer, I must admit I did go afk for the main part. I was off to one side, I soon quickly found out how hard to was to get people to watch you instead of the afk people. It took me several hours to get about 5k in the entertaining healing experience and I haven't been tipped since since I got master dancer... I usually go to the more popular places like Moenia or Coronet.
I try to chat to the wounded people but they're usually afk too and when they come back they just log, so you have about 10 link dead people in the middle of the floor, which isn't too impressive if you're trying to do a dance like formal or lyrical and you kick them in the head while you dance by.
A couple of suggestions for LatH123:
If you're losing healing experience to afkers, don't be afraid to politely ask woundedpeople in a /tell to watch you. I find most people prefer to help non-zombies andwillswitch, although it helps if you have some strong healing skills. In any case the afker's aren't going to complain. This is easier to do in a less-crowded cantina, which brings me to my next suggestion.
Considergoing toadventure planets if you are looking for tip income. I find the tip-per-patron rate to be around 80% on places like Dantooine or Lok. Normally I'm the only at-the-keyboard entertainer in any given cantina I visit, and afkers aren't as common as I was expecting. The downsides are worth noting though: first, the shuttle costs are substantial and second, be prepared for long stretches of boredom. I also wouldn't do this until you've gone at least part of the way into novice dancer - if you're needing training every night the trips back to "civilization"can wipe out your financialgain.
Thanks for the offer Sen.
And thanks for some general advice to all ![]()
What I have noticed though is that most people who watch AFKers do so because they don't have to tip then. Its really annoying. Have you guys seen on the main forum a post in which some droid engineer really wrecked apart the entertainers?
I find that is becoming a more general attitude. Dancers should be able to "target" their healing some way or so.
Yeah it's a real problem, people don't understand how a player based community works, every person affects it whether they intend to or not...but anyways ![]()
Come to Bestine! We'll show you a great time!
Hey Ch'loe...do I know you? *grin*
