Thread: Dancing Broken Worse then Ever on TC now.

Hello folks, don't see me posting here often but something this big I had to give a heads up on.

In an attempt at fixing base dances they've broken Dancing worse then ever now. The base dances look fine, sure... and they continue to look fine for you just like always. Other people can see them too, and thats great. But what you don't see that others do is now you start turning and changing directions and twitching on others screens.

So in short, the base dances work now but Synch dancing has been completely destroyed because you have NO control what so ever over your toon. You'll start in a line with other Dancers and with some dances seconds later your all facing different directions going different ways and it totally destroys the synch.

Other dances like Popular and Poplock (Dances that before had no issues at all) are also affected by this but take a little longer to kick in. You'll be dancing in synch with others doing Poplock and a little later everyone is facing different directions and twitching.

I don't know about the rest of you but I'd rather have broken base dances then loose the ability to synch dance and control my characters movement. This is going to completely ruin dancing for me if this ends up live. And I Was sooo hoping things where finally getting fixed....

Actually I can't test it out properly until I can blue frog. What I saw this morning was a huge improvement on what I have now.

And only others see that?
I mean i'm still looking North on my screen but for someone else i'm looking south?

Or worse its lyrical, and on my screen, I'm moving north, but for others i just danced southway straight through the bar?

Are the dancers using mouse-look mode or mousepointer mode, are they using chasecam or not?

I can't test it myself since i have no dancer toon on TC

This is really distressing, and I can only hope that Deila is all over them about this issue. If past events are any predicter, what is on TC will go live without any change unless something really extraordinary happens.

Synch dances are EXTREMELY important for any kind of live entertainment function if they end up being unusable those of us taht like to get together in groups and actually put on a show and entertain will find ourselves without one of the things in game that is enjoyable.

We might soon be seeing Dancer /startband and /changeband commands like Musicians currently have. This would help everyone start in the same place and would minimize some of the effects seen on TC right now with group dancing.

I think the most important thing to remember here is that this has been an issue for Dancers since the game launched. These high drift dances have never been not "broken" and all of the new dances that are in queue for us are high drift as well, so they will be "broken" too.

For the first time ever, the Devs are trying to fix the issue. I think it is important to try to appreciate that and work from there. To just say "put them back like they were!" is a mistake imo.

I'll vouch for the broken-ness of the dances right now. I watched Ravenmist and Geddie go completely haywire tonight. Later on, Scipionus was testing the dances out and three observers saw him in three separate locations in the cantina.

This definitely needs a fix.

Point of interest, it's bad enough to pull a Blue Glowie off the island.

I agree, Pan, we do need to appreciate the work that the devs have put into this - HOWEVER . . . if this is not fixed and fixed FAST it will ruin the Cantina Crawls and any other entertainer event from now on. As I see it, and I feel sure Javy agrees, there would be no reason to even try to hold a Cantina Crawl (much less video it) if the dancers can't sync dance if this goes live!

Here's what I don't understand, the fatalistic attitude.

Yes, this introduces new issues. Yes, these should be brought up to the Devs as soon as they will talk about it. To just throw up our hands and say "fast!! Put it back like it was!" seems very self defeating to me.

Other professions do not act like this. Other profession Corrs and Glowies do not act like this when put in similar situations. If their profs get a fix that is not all that they had hoped, they don't say "just put it back and leave it alone till you can do better!" If they did, then nothing would ever get fixed.

I think part of the issue is the cure seems to brings worse issues than the disease, Panthu. I'm *elated* that they're working on the issue at all, but I don't want the dances in this form. Also, history has shown that once it's on test it's destined for live regardless of how long a feedback thread might become. Also, givent that it took ages for them to try to look into what was broken in the first place, there is the general fear that they will be like this for a long time. If we can't scynch dance, then that kills CCs and all sorts of other things.

I have faith that Deila et al. are doing what they can though, but this will really hurt us if it goes live, and I hope they sort it out before it does. If not, then it needs to be adjusted in a very timely manner. Heck from the way it sounds, I wont even be able to enjoy a mirror dance with my Girl if it goes in this way.

Nooo! this is like an emotional roller coaster. lol I haven't had a chance to really see for myself. I logged on for a bit this afternoon but there was only one person doing the dances. I can see what some of you are saying with Tumbling, he was all over the place. I'd say definitely /bug it and /bug it again, and hopefully they will take their time and keep working on it. I'd rather them not publish it to live until it's fixed though. There has to be a solution.

I did a short video to demonstrate the issue. To create this, had two chars there. One dancing and one watching. I touched nothing on either computer while this was running, save bringing up the map once the dancer was completely offscreen from the viewer. For the dance, I did tumble2 with no flourishes. In this short video the dancer's perspective is in the upper left corner, the viewer's perspective is the main view.

The biggest culprit here is that the dancer is being turned to face where the server thinks they should be. This is altering the direction of the base dance.

Other things, the position is never corrected, so the longer you dance, the worse out of sync it gets. Something that travels a lot gets out of sync almost immediately. Something like popular2 isn't nearly as bad, but still not great. Related, it is no longer possible to steer yourself to travel around the dance floor, since any change in location isn't reflected on the viewer's screen (Save turning you to face where you moved to during the base dance.)

Thanks for posting the video. That's pretty sad. Crowded cantinas are going to be total chaos, with people all on top of each other, if this goes live. Aww poop.
