Thread: With SOETyrant gone, how do you think our chances look?

SOETyrant was the biggest one pushing for the removal of recursive macros. With him now gone from SOE, what do you think will happen with this and other issues he was pushing for? I'm still staying hopeful, but Tyrant's leaving was an unexpected blow to me. Mabe I'm just out of the loop.

So is the fact that he's gone now confirmed? Was there a post or some other report about this somewhere?

And if he is gone, that would only seem to indicate that SWG is indeed going in a somewhat less than good-looking future. You could see that with the recent updates: it's all about instant gratification for the combat toon, FPS style gameplay for kiddies with attention-deficit syndrome.

Well-rounded content for many different play-styles doesn't seem to be in the cards anymore. You'll still be able to get by more or less as a crafter, because after all those are somewhat necessary for the combat players, but as for entertainers...

I think that maybe SOE doesn't intend to address recursive macros because one of the widely advertised goals for the upcoming CU is to lessen the importance of buffs. So maybe they think that nerfing buffbots won't be necessary because that will be a side-effect of the combat changes anyway. Of course that would also mean that one of the entertainers' main reasons for being (in the eyes of the Devs and most other players) will be eliminated.

So my guess is that recursive macros won't be addressed, and that the CU will only serve to further marginalize us, taking away one of the last things that potentially make us into a viable profession on a par with everyone else.

We're not important now (except as buffbots), and we'll be even less important after the CU. Somewhere down the line they'll probably remove all semblances of usefulness along with our skill point requirements, in orderto enable us to pursue what will really be important in this game: getting combat skills and going out to kill stuff. That's pretty much where future content will be concentrated.

Gah, that's what comes from assuming only the top 10-12 topics or so have new replies and never reading further down the list...

Thanks for the link!

This rumor has been flying around for a couple of weeks and with Tyrant's sudden silence, I was wondering when we'd get some form of confirmation. Do I think there is still a chance that the ability for an account holder to achieve success in any aspect of the game while their avatar is completely unattended will ever be removed from the game? I think they'll continue to toss easily worked around quick-fixes at things like unattended combat and bat cave looting but Ithinkthat if any of them had any intention toaffect their macro system in a way that would remove unattended play from Our game, it would have been done by now. But my attitude is not in a good place atm.

It doesn’t look too good.
Technically he was the only one who flat-out said he’s pushing for AFK to go away, rest of the Devs just made statements of “being aware of the issue” (and no it’s not a quote)
If they truly wanted The Empire AFK to be The Empire ATK they would have done it long time ago. There is no real reason for this much of procrastination.
I have no clue what is in the future, but with buffs rumored as not being as crucial for the Elite as they claim they are now it seems our role/purpose may be even less then it’s now.
Don’t take me wrong, I love dancing for just the pleasure of dancing but I want to be useful also. I don’t want non-entertainers looking at me as if all I’m doing is adding to the server lag.

Please Devs, prove me wrong……

Well my hope for unattended gameplay to be removed is just about gone now - if our strongest voice against it went away - the kiddies that need the instant gratification and want everything now now now - well to be honest they have a louder voice and represent more accounts. It all boils down to money - if more people will leave if AFK macroing is disabled - who do you think SOE will cater to? The majority - otherwise they will be out of business.

Theseprofessions losttheir only hope when we lost Holocron in 2003. Tyrant seemed like a good developer, don't get me wrong, but it seemed Ralph"Holocron" Koster understood better than anyone what these classes were, what they were not, what they should try to be, and what environment is required to promote the sort of activities that were needed.

And the difference is playing to the underlying psychological motives of the player, rather than approach each problem as a mere technical excercise.

In order for a cantina to be a place of rest and relaxation, it must first act like a place of rest and relaxation. Not the pressure cooker we have now, where both patrons and performers are stressed over trying to find out what an algebraic calculation is worth, what are the expectations on each end of the process, and what any of this has to do with entertainment, rightly understood.

On the basis of two computers talking to each other, there is no problem. But on the basis of two players trying to coordinate their computers, there are serious problems of uncertainty. There is a serious disconnect between what the cantina should be, and what it is in truth.

I am not quite sure Tyrant trulyunderstood this. Because it seems to me he approached the problems of game design as a typical computer scientist would: as a problem between two computers. And all we'll ever get from that is game play that resembles what we have right now: the sunum bonum of dancing being reduced to a mere attempt to "master algebra."

I am quite sure algebra is very fun for computers, and those who relate to computers better than people. But frankly, when typicalpeople think about a cantina, the last thing that we think about is balancing our checkbooks, or calculating mathematical formulas.

To be quite honest, I personally feel that theonepersonon the current development staff that can help these professions better than anyone else is Dr. Pratt, the UI Interface Designer. If the development team were smart, they should give him a crack at these professions.

Well I rather liked the addition of Sheri Graner Ray to the team, even though I'm sure the majority of her efforts will be put toward content dealing with combat.

You do it all the time and you need to stop.

Stop making posts I 100% agree with and wish I had posted myself.
