I know that other MMORPGs have successfully hadthem.

Usually they have requirements like keeping the names in the spirit of roleplaying and keeping out-of-character chat out of spacial (but obviously it is not policed in guild, groups or private chat).

In this case it could also be a server where unattended play is against the TOS.

As well it would be a place where players and Developers alike could focus time and energy on player roleplayingevents.

I realize that the support costs would go up to enforce the more restrictive rules, however I seem to recall a statistic from another game that has official roleplaying servers that those servers had the longest recurring player bases.

It would also be an interesting test for SOE to see how many people wouldplay on this kind of a server.

I know that I would love to play on a server like this, and since the entertainer community in general seems to be about roleplaying, it could be great fun! But we entertainers alone certainly aren't the only ones who are into roleplaying, I'm sure people from all classes would apprechiate the opportunity for some more immersion.

It's not a long term solution, but at least those people who are unhappy with AFK play, either with entertainers or looters or whatever would have a place to go where they are minimally affected by it.

usually the servers that get the most votes for being an unofficial / official RP server are Tarquinas, Euro-Chimera, and .... Kettemoor used to get votes but i haven't seen them put a showing on the RP forums like they used to.

If you are looking for a good RP server check out Tarquinas. ON the Tarq forums stickied at the top of the forum are 2 threads - the official Tarq roleplyers listing, and a sticky of player fiction (rp stories).

having said that - if SOE WAS going to officially have an RP server they would've done it from the get-go. Not enough people would be willing 2 years into a game to uproot their characters, lose their items, their favorite player city, etc to move their RP character to an RP only server. Plus, while i LOVE RP - I have good friends in game that don't RP and i wouldn't want to leave them either.
