I know the CU announcement has a lot of tempers and fears elevated. I can see panic in some eyes. But it's way too soon to assume anything. This stuff hasn't even hit a beta stage yet.

I'm not saying everything's going to be fine. I don't have any real information beyond what has been exposed, and there's certainly reason to be anxious about what they put out there. But they've admitted work needs to be done in terms of the entertainer vision and what we're losing as part of the combat upgrade, and rather than talk about what game we'll be going on to after they've killed entertainers off, let's try to give them an earful of advice on where we see ourselves going from here.

We probably cannot play as large a part in combat buffing as we have. Speaking honestly, there aren't enough of us left to provide such a critical service to the sheer number of combatants out there without buffbots, and none of us want that situation to persist. A reduced role in combat buffing doesn't mean the end of our existence, it may just indicate a shift.

Let's try not to jump to conclusions, try not to see only doom and gloom. We may come to that eventually, but not today. And in the absense of a dancer correspondent, we'll need speak up even louder and rely on the other entertainment correspondents to pick up the slack.

I dunno about you folks, but I care too much to simply give up now.

It would be interesting to tally what precentage of the SWG accounts belong to the social professions. One SWG feature that seems to distinguish this MMORG from others is its social professions which brings in a bigger tent of players than what would be found in most other combat-oriented computer games. It would be sad to see SWG neglect the social professions in future revamps because it would feel like SWG is just becoming "just another combat computer game".

I agree.

I have stuck with commando (not dancer, I know, but just as broken) through thick and thin, I could have dropped it many, many times, bu at the end, I just sucked it up and held on, and I still enjoy the heck out of it...

Awhile back, someone asked if we would still dance if we couldn't buff. I answered in that thread that yes, I would. This is still true. Actually, I'm more upset about the increased skill point requirements for the combat professions that I dabble in and the loss of the ability to equip weapons that I don't have certifications for than anything else.

Part of me is sad, because part of me always wanted this to be Sirii's story and Sirii's journey. Maybe the thing I always loved about the game before this was the fact that Sirii was a dancer, but before she was a dancer, she was Sirii. Dancing doesn't define who Sirii is, it simply is something Sirii does.

But with this combat upgrade, it almost feels like Sirii does not dance, but rather, there is simply a dancer named Sirii. It sort of defines me as a role, instead of letting me define myself a particular role.

Does that make sense? Or am I merely going crazy because I cannot seem to download the current Test Centre right now?

YES EXACTLY!!!!

I'm pistoleer 0040 and TK 0120 because I like being SEMI-mighty out on the plains, and handling myself if the enemy comes in close OR tries to run away. Being the only one effective against a NS elder with my Repbublic Blaster and tossing my Scout Blaster to a friend so he can still kick in even though he's TKM ALWAYS ROCKED.

I hardly ever buff anyway so they can take buffs completely out of the game and it wouldn't affect me much if at all. The only time I ever buff anyone is a guild mate, and that's pretty rare (I guess they get theirs from AFKers because they hardly ever ask me for one).

What I want is to get my mind wound heaing skill boxes back. They don't do anything anymore? Fine. Give me the skill points back. Don't make me waste them on empty boxes.

No you're not going crazy. That very question is somthing that roleplayers have been struggling with since the early days of tabletop RPGs. The question of what defines our characters is a very difficult one to manage, and you have an interesting time ahead of you.

A fine example of that very question is found in, of all places, Dungeons and Dragons. Way back when, the class known as 'Ranger' was based soley on Aragorn and the Rangers of the Nort (from the Lord of the Rings) but when they switched D&D over to AD&D 2nd ed, Rangers were changed to be more in line with the character Drizzt. At that time, Ranger players found their class changing almost to the very core. Many of those changes were so profound that players would find themselves required to follow in the legendary Drizzt's footsteps.

Ultimately though, I believe that your character is who she is. And while dancing is somthing you want her to do, she is not her profession.

She is a woman trying to make her way in the galaxy as best she can. And to that end, she dances.
