Many views are available on this subject.

Dancers that never macro and stuff are often a bit miffed at those that do. The thing is, in the long run the person that is not macroing usually has the advantage. Some advantages are as follows:

* They gain rapport with the cantina visitors. Thus making friends and gaining regular watchers.

* They learn the timing of move and are able to dance more fluidly

* Their tip income is higher (most people don't tip AFKs)

* Their XP income is better (and they don't get booted from group, or loose group if a group is reformed)

* They are in better touch with the world around them, vendor locations, etc.

And the list goes on. The majority of people shun the AFKers and go to active people. Don't let the AFKs get you down. Just remember, you are one step ahead of them. The journey is the adventure. If you get to the destination with no adventure, what was the fun?

Sure, you can macro to Master, but why? If you do that, you missed most of the fun.

Of course 5 or 10 minute macros are useful for when you need to use the bathroom, sending e-mails, or chatting up clients.

The only time I'll AFK dance is when I'm the only one in the place and there are no customers. Prime example--out in Wayfar or some player owned cantina that doesn't have alot of visitors.

I'll switch to Basic2 or something Rhythmic and set up an AFK message that states that I'm AFK but here for your Battle Fatigue and Wound healing needs.

I set up something like this yesterday when no one at all was around Wayfar and then went to lunch with my husband, I came back an hour later and had over 7,000 in tips and quite a few thank yous. Sometimes customers just want an entertainer there for them.

Now, when you are in a cantina on more popular venues or when other dancers/musicians are around, you shouldn't be AFK on the main area. You want to greet customers and you want to interact with your fellow entertainers. If you need to AFK in a popular area, it is wise to retire to an alcove out of the way.

I have often done this myself, but mainly because of the timezoneI play in. When I'm awake to play, most of you in the States are asleep or at work and the cantinas are dead, soI'll set up a Macro with an away message attached.

Short afk's i don't mind, it is when they extend into hours. If I suspect someone of afk macro dancing for long periods I will definitely boot them from my group. Nothing drives me more crazy than a dancer taking the middle of the dancefloor then going on a long afk. I do use short macro's for dance routines and to use the restroom, etc but that is all.

Well my take on AFK dancing is simple.

The creators / developers knew what they were doing. It goes to show you what type of detail and homework they did to incoperate macros and the use of them while AFK. They are there for a reason. They knew that no one can seriously sit hours upon hours in from of the screen to do all this work. They needed to make the game a "little easier" if you would for the non-die hards. Each and every profession has the ability to raise their skill level (except for combat) by developing a macro and going AFK. How many times we would see a surveoyer next to us on the horizon using the macro of surveying.

This is something that the "casual gamer" can finally cling on to. And this is something that makes galaxies unique. The casual gamer can find some joy in leaving the machine on and getting some work done, in real life and in the game.

The first post is true. The people that are in front of the screen, will always get more out of it as well as others that interact in the game. But the casual game that really would not interact that much, or will not spend the energy and effort really does not care so much for the "rewards". You get out of it, what you put in.

Personally I do not mind anyone being AFK in my group. Go right on ahead. It does help the group with more dancers, more experience and faster experience is always welcomed. Also real life does happen. It is part of the profession, as much as hitting the flourish key. Something that we should just accept and not try and fight. It is in the game for the reason, or at least the abilitie to do it.

I would say if it is late and someone with a good intertnet connection, just hits the macro and goes to sleep is not really bad. I might even consider them being "smart" they are improving themselves as the "system" allows. I would welcome them in a group, combat or non anytime. Also where we come, it is unwritten rule that the "Dancing Group" covers for the AFK's. We are a close unit, and we understand the strains of our profession, as you all know. A dancers life is not really a easy one. No hack and slash, no moster to slay, no sides to really choose. Just to keep dancing for the masses, and 80% of the time they are AFK as they watch us.

I hope this not make anyone quite the profession, because personally we are in demand and we certainly do it for the love.

Thanks!

This is a huge pet peeve of mine. I made it to master dancer in little over a weekwithout going afk for more than a minute or using a macro - EVER. (Granted I had a bad injury to my back recently and cant do much else other than play SWG.) How hard is it to press F1 then continue with /tell or /reply or even just regular chatting?

I spent yesterday in the cantina with an entertainer who was afk and macroing ALL DAY. He set it up so he would sit and rest when he ran out of AP. But he also set it up to make it look like he was interacting with the customers. The other entertainers in the cantina (some of whom macro and some who dont) were extremely annoyed having to listen to this annoying patter over and over. AND OVER. Think of your fellow entertainers as well as the customers. Our cantina has relatively few AFK customers because the entertainers are known for being there!

Nothing against macroing, just hours of macros and afk.

my wife made master dancer in about 2 weeks, the only time she goes afk is late at night/early morning and the system boots her automaticly after about 15 min.

She macroed her way to master, but spent 90% of the time at the keyboard.

We talked about afk/macroing and both agree that what ever floats their boat is nobody elses business.

She didnt mind being in a group with 6 or 7 afk dancers because the xp she was getting was alot better than dancing alone.

If you have a problem with people being afk my suggestion is to go someplace else.

Find dancers that are actively talking to their customers. They are the ones that get the best tips

AFK and macros are two different issues. AFK mean just that, your toon does not have anyone running it.

I use macros but am at the keyboard 95% of the time. I use macros to make sure I keep up greetings and conversations. We are social, it is the interactions with others that is our main ability. Anyone can macro and AFK, anyone can hit function keys without interacting with the other players. But the dancer that can interact with the others is the most successful.

Using macros allows maximum interaction and set routines.
