Thread: Review of New Flourishes: Definitely not Motion Captured

Hey guys, I am a Novice dancer on the test server and I just wanted to express to you my sheer disappointment of the new dances.

  • Its painfully obvious, that someone hand-animated this instead of the fluid moves of motion capture that we have with the originals.

  • The body moves to fast, the speed execution of the flourishes looks like the dancer is on mild fast-forward.

  • The hands, feet, arms do not curve or flex, which is fine for poplock but not for popular or formal this goes for other body parts. There is no fluidity to the new moves.

  • The moves themselves look promising if they got a live dancer to do them. But the way it works now, limbs over bend and twist in in-human ways.

  • I've seen better animation in a Diablo 2 cut scene.

There is no consistence of quality of the animation between the originals and the new, very depressing. Very much a slap-job.

Sorry guys

This is NOT good news, and I thank you for bringing it to our attention.

I kind of wondered how they were going to add more animations without going back to the motion capture studio. I know /flourish 1 in Exotic4 looks bent and twisted beyond normal range of motion for the human body - and it's not even attractive.

Is there a chance that what's on test is still rough and will be altered? Or are you looking at the finished product?

Quite honestly this sort of quality (or lack of) could be more troubling than bugs in the game.

I don't know if this is a placeholder till later or what. Signs do not look good tho. I'd like to hear word on this, the animations are noticably sub-quality compared to the original mo-cap.

The patch on test center is not going live soon, so there's time to do the stuff using MC and to assume it's indeed a placeholder.

This is indeed troubling news, I was really hoping they'd do as good of a job with last 4 flourishes as they did with first 4 on poplock and lyrical.. you said something about formal looking bad but that wasn't changed supposedly, did you mean lyrical? Either way I'll try to find out everyone what the deal is with these additions, hopefully they are works in progress. Stay tuned.

I'm not high enough to get lyrical. The thing is almost all dances got changed a little. Even Rhythmic. I will say this that of all of them Popular looks the best. I might even go to say that a couple of the 5-8 flourishes actualy were mo-cap that maybe got added late.

If you guys do want to see the dancing, I will be on tonight in the evening on Test Center (EST). I would be happy to demonstrate what I have. (Basic, Rhythmic, Formal, Popular, Poplock)

The only dances they say they changed are Rhythmic, Poplock and Lyrical. Popular isn't suppose to be any different. Did you have popular before the update to compare? I believe you if you say its different tho. Just want to make sure you had a lot of experience with the dances not just got it, so you can really see whats changed and whats not. I'll try and stop by and look. Thanks for the info!

They may have said they changed only those but Formal looks much different now. I did have plenty of experience with Popular and Poplock before the patch.. I had them for about, oh, early last week.

Keep talking about "in-human" posing but remember that being human is only one choice out of eight.
