Thread: Why I AFK, or A Dancers Tale(or Tail)
Okay, I'll admit it. I am an AFK dancer. I wasn't always this way, in fact this is the first profession that I have created a macro and walked away from my computer for hours on end. Now, don't get me wrong. Don't think that I log into SWG, join a group, and go AFK. I still get in my 2-3 hours of playtime a day, in fact I think I actually am playing the game more since I started dancer then any other profession. I love talking to the group that I am part of, playing the part of a bad a$$ grrl dancer.
Then, why oh why do I set my computer up to macro from the time I go to sleep till the servers reset in the morning? Because as much as I enjoy the entertainer lifestyle, it's not what I want to do. Ya see, I am one of those &%&^%! people trying to unlock the FS slot. I have finished all 4 of my holocrons, and in hopes of unlocking I chose to start out doing the entertainer line, as none of my holocrons were from that line. I mastered entertainer in a day long session, no AFKing, just dancing, playing music, and enjoying seeing people I hadn't seen in weeks or months due to the grinding I had just finished up (in case you are wondering, medic, pikeman, smuggler, and architect were the holocrons)
Well, as master entertainer didn't unlock, I sat down with a friend, some muon gold, and some chef food and grinded out Image designer in under 2 hours. What did I do then? I dropped it. All of it. Why? Because I didn't want to take any business away from those people who chose this career. It's the same thing that I have done with every profession I have mastered in search of the slot. Which is why I am trying to get through dancer as fast as I can.
While I am trying to grind through dancing, I am obviously taking business away from those people who do entertaining as a way of life. It would be to both our benifit to help me out, not hinder me, so I can get the out of the cantina and on my way. If you tell people not to watch me, kick me from the group, etc. etc. I am only going to be there longer. Just because I am not getting help does not mean I am just going to decide to try another profession.
Now, mind you, when I do go AFK, I run a macro that has no shouts or yells, and I stand off in a corner. Still close enough to get heals from the medic in the middle of the room, but far enough away that when people come in to heal, that there is a group of other entertainers between me and them. When I get tipped, I give the money to the current group leader.
Help me out, and I get out of the cantina quicker, and come back as a customer. Be a b*tch about it, and chances are that not only am I going to take business from you, but going to be there much much longer =)
Have you seen the other type? The type that stands in the center (or lately out in the foyer near the door)? The type that spams healing requests or tip begs? If so, then you begin to understand our pain.

Yes, I have seen those types. And anyone that has a spam macro I usually ask the current leader to kick them and send them a tell to get rid of the spam in their macro.
One thing that I noticed large groups doing here lately is splitting up the group, setting 5 or so people in the foyer to combat the afkers in the door, as most people who stop to listen quickly realize that the 5 people jamming out there are not only healing them quicker then the lone guy spamming "Watch me, I only need 5k more XP to master", but the sounds of a full band are something to behold.
