No surprises there!

Good post Fuschia.!LOTS of very good points! At the risk of blowing my horn (Lei is not even a musician, no lip you know) I cover some similar topics in my currently stickied thread "An Invitation to the Dance", if any one would like some reading material to put them to sleep.

Oh, me too... the ninja teaching thing drives me batty. I had this issue with one other grinder in particular... three times in a row I said I would teach someone, and she beat me to it.

And Javvy... you WOULD.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I made this post when I was very tired and it was very late, so I'm surprised it's as coherent as it is. LOL I'm also surprised I caught that mistake. Oh, about my edit button. I used to post under the station name MUSoprano, but got rid of the account. So I had to start posting with this one instead, and didn't register it until just a few months ago. >.< MUSoprano is an elder... will be a leader soon. I miss my edit button.

As most of you know, I recently made a master dancer on another server. I chose Bria as my secondary server largely because I want to participate in the numerous entertainer events, but also because the attitude toward entertainers on Bria is overall VERY positive. So, I spent a good part of the last two weeks in a jam-packed entertainer group in Theed. There were times when the entertainer group was fabulous... well-run, fun, active, with enough drama to keep me interested. Then there were times when... well, it wasn't fun. Either everyone was AFK, or the leader left something to be desired. All this made me think: what makes a good entertainer group? The answer is simple: manners. Manners can make or break an entertainer group. Let's face it, 20 creatively driven people being forced to camp out together in a small, enclosed space? Not always a great idea! But there ARE certain rules that, if followed, can really make the experience what it should be. This is what I observed in the last week... my list of do's and don'ts for a good entertainer group.

DO:

  • Use common sense. Thank the leader for inviting you, be polite.

  • Move off the center floor if you go AFK. It's just good karma.

  • Keep an open mind. While this is an American-run game, not everyone who plays is American or even speaks English all that well. Make allowances for this, or you could end up seriously putting your foot in your mouth.

  • Offer to teach people who need it.

  • Get to know your fellow entertainers. You're probably going to be seeing a WHOLE lot of them as you grind. If you make enemies too quickly, you might not have such a great time learning your profession.

  • Give leadership to someone else if you are going AFK and are currently leader. This is a MUST, and if you fail to do this, you will have a whole lot of very angry entertainers with very long memories.

  • Keep an eye on your group, if you are the leader. Weed out the link dead folks and people who have been just standing for long periods of time. Sometimes people's macros break. If the group is full, and someone's not dancing or playing, they're not contributing anything to the group and should be replaced.

  • Make sure you're paying attention to who needs invites. Cantinas can get incredibly spammy (is that a word?), so it's not always easy, but it's very irritating to have to beg for an invite for half an hour before the leader finally notices you.

  • Include a /join command in your macro while you are grinding. This way, if something happens to the group, or if you get booted while AFK in favor of a live entertainer, you can rejoin if invited.

  • Weigh carefully before giving leader over to another player. Bad leaders are the pits.

  • Stay active while you are grouped, ESPECIALLY if the group is full. Everyone needs to make a quick run at some point (i.e. dancer or musician trainer), but if you are grouped and in the cantina, you should be dancing or playing.

DON'T:

  • Go AFK as leader. Ever. Ever. Ever. Evil gnomes will come and chew your ears off if you do. Seriously, don't do this, unless it's like 4 AM and NO ONE in the group is ATK. At that point it's probably not going to matter anyway. If you have to go away for a few minutes to answer the phone or whatever, LET THE GROUP KNOW.

  • Abuse your power as leader. There is nothing worse than a leader who will boot entertainers because they're of opposing faction, because they don't like the person, etc. This WILL come back and bite you.

  • Ninja teach. If someone in the group asks for, say, entertainer healing IV, and someone else says "I can teach you that" do NOT beat them to the AP. It is rude beyond measure, and very, VERY frustrating for the dancer who needs AP. Trust me, as an entertainer, you will have PLENTY of opportunity to teach people skills.

  • Be unresponsive. If someone sends you a tell asking for an invite, and you're full, don't ignore the tell.

  • Fight with other people in groupchat. It's so obnoxious, and will probably result in expulsion from the group.

  • Dance or play on top of other people. It's one thing if you're doing a dancer that takes you all over the place, or if you have a Nalargon out on the floor. A little overlap is inevitable. But don't stand and strum your mandoviol directly on top of someone who is dancing exotic.

  • Disconnect from the game without disbanding and moving off the floor. For some reason, entertainers who go LD while still skill animating seem to stay in-game for a VERY long time as an LD zombie. And forcing your leader to boot you from the group is causing unnecessary work for him/her.Please disband and move off the floor first.

  • Invite non-entertainers for buffing purposes. It is not necessary to be grouped in order to buff. Inviting clients who need buffing not only takes up space in the group that could be filled by other entertainers, it gives the client the opportunity to steal a buff without payment. If your group contains a master dancer or musician that needs to buff more than one at a time, they should disband and group with their clients.

  • Invite everyone who walks through the door. It's very, very annoying to walk into a cantina to get healed and immediately be invited to the entertainer group.

  • Hesitate to invite your friendly neighborhood healer. It is SO much easier for someone who is grinding medic to see who needs healed if they're in the entertainer group. If your group becomes full, you can then decide whether or not to remove the healer in favor of an entertainer.

  • Go off-planet without disbanding, ESPECIALLY if the group is full.

These are really just some observations that I've made over the last week. I'd love to get some feedback, and I always welcome additions from other experienced entertainers!
