Thread: Can't Buff Ourselves Dev Response

Making it a master skill sounds reasonable to me. Then you'd have to spend 100 or so skill pts to just give yourself a buff. Nobody (sane) is going to do that.

In response to the following statement by Bionic;

"TH said yesterday that he was going to try to find out the details for us and post when he got them. I PM'ed him today reminding him, and he read it, so we'll see what happens."

in the Entertainer forum, Thunderheart replied:

Greetings,

Entertainers, Dancers and Musicians will not be able to buff themselves with Inspiration Buffs.

Here's why:

On the game side of things, basic Inspiration Buffs come early. The concern is that folks can take just a few basic skills to buff themselves and the Inspiration Buffs provided by dedicated Entertainers, Dancers and Musicians will not be in as much demand as they should be because other players will be able to do it themselves.

While I understand that it certainly isn't as convenient as it would be to buff yourselves, other players will want that same convenience for themselves. They will buy a small amount of skills for the convenience and the demand for your Inspiration Buffs will drop.

Simply for the sake of discussion: conceptually, the idea of the buff is that your character is "inspired" by watching a fantastic entertainer perform for you. Inspiring yourself by entertaining, dancing or playing music is certainly possible, but it isn't typical.

Easiest workaround is put self buffing as a master skill.

I guess the only good thing about this is the buffs can't be AFK-macro'd...

Only the Entertainer buffs come early: General, Artisan, and Entertainer. If those are the concern, move them out of the Novice Ent box and into 0 0 0 4 - that way it would take some effort to gain access and dedicated Entertainers are still rewarded.

The other buffs, which are the bulk of the buffs and the ones of most interest, all require either Novice Dancer or Novice Musician. Now, if people are dedicated enough to get to the Novice Elite boxes, they are just as much entitled to the Dancer or Musician content as the rest of us. They'll have to do the buffing ATK which was the only real concern we ever had and most of us greatly prefer for people to be doing this on their main char instead of an alt.

It's not fun to sell something you can't use yourself. It just isn't. No matter what the fiction is, these are profession skills in a game. Players want to be able to use their skills for their own benefit. Change the fiction, change where the buffing ability is granted in our trees, but let us use our own abilities for our own benefit.

This didn't cut it with mind buffing and it doesn't with these new buffs either. We want to buff ourselves and the changes need to be made to allow it.

Esharra, why do the developers envision our dance as some sort of commodity like fiberplast panels that is bought and sold?

I don't think anyone here dances "to satisfy the demand for general inspiration buffs."

We dance because we want to put on a work of beauty.

Because there is something rather "sexist" in the notion that dancing, and music are the only "commodity producing professions" that cannot even produce their own commodities for their own use?

That is why this system is ultimately unsatisfying to what we are about. Saying a general buff is a "product that is subject to supply and demand," takes all the romance, and ambiance out of the thing...besides the fact that it gives everyone the dangerous impression that we are not even responsible enough to use our own abilities for ourselves.

So players will pick up dancing and music skills because there is some benefit. And as a dancer, why on Corellia would I think that this is a bad thing, to give more players reasons to play, and dance?

not only that, but TK can buff themselves, through meditation, why cant we
inspire ourselves by just relaxing and flowing with the dance/music

thats a cop out answer from the devs I am afraid.

we can inspire ourselves, real people do it every darn day.
As mentioned, if they are so worried about it, make it a dancer or musician skill at least,
but to be fair, we should be allowed this. we are the only group in game, that CAN buff, but cant
buff ourselves, and I would like to know why the others can then.

Stop the presses I even agree with Sirii! Devs have to allow us to buff ourselves as this doesn't happen every darn day!

I vote for it happening at Master level.

not sure about master, I mean TK can do it at 2xxx
I am certain the same thing would work well for dancer/musician

I mean even at novice would be fine imo

I mean I hate to say that it shouldnt be a skill at ent level, but if they
really are concerned about 'picking up a few skills' and doing it, I dont
see why they dont make it an elite bonus.
