How to find an entertainer to inspire you

A common issue brought up by players of Star Wars Galaxies is the perception that entertainers are hard to find. Here are a few methods to use if you are in need of an entertainer for inspiration and don't know where to find one.

Something to keep in mind while approaching entertainers: Just as with any other player in the game, politeness goes a long way toward getting what you want. Someone is much more responsive to a nicely asked request than to a demand. This is mentioned because the longstanding state of the game has led many to become very demanding of entertainers, and entertainers are particularly sensitive about the issue.

Networking
Best method: Get to know some entertainers. If you are in a guild, recruit an entertainer (or preferably several) to join the guild. It's a good idea to find both musicians and dancers, since they provide inspirations for different sets of professions. Once you've gotten to know some entertainers, you can contact them just as you would any other player whose services you need. Putting them on your friends list will let you know when they are online, and it's easy to send them tells asking if they are entertaining or if they can come help you out. They may be occupied at the time, but as you get to know them, you will likely get a better handle on their party schedule (or better yet, you'll become part of their party schedule! ).

Common Locations
If none of the entertainers you know is online, there are several means to find other entertainers. An obvious location to check, if you're near one, is a cantina. On most servers, you can consistently find entertainers in the cantinas in Coronet and Theed. However, you may not be near a cantina, and it's certainly not the only place entertainers can be found, so try one of the following methods.

Player Search Feature
If you want to see if there is an entertainer near you, you can use the player search feature. Hit ctrl-p, and find the tab named "Search". Under the profession listbox, select Musician, Dancer, or Entertainer, and you will find anyone within some distance of you whose title is currently one of those professions. You can then send the person a tell and ask if they can help you out with your healing or buffing needs. This will not find any entertainers whose titles are not up, so don't get completely discouraged if you don't find anyone with this. Move on to another method.

Planetary Map
If you want to find an entertainer on your planet, you can check the map for cantinas with registered entertainers. Note that entertainers gain the ability to register with a location only after reaching Novice Musician or Novice Dancer. Access the planetary map by hitting ctrl-v. On the right side of the window is a list of locations that you can display on the map. Players can register under "Cantinas", "Theaters", “Hotels”, “Taverns”, and "Guild Halls : Theaters", so you'll want to select these. Each of the locations will then appear on the map.
An image of the planetary map, showing the sun and moon icons.
You want to find the locations whose name has an icon that looks like a sun. This sun icon indicates that a musician or dancer has registered with the location. The locations with moon icons do not have a registered musician or dancer. An entertainer is just a shuttle or short ride away.

Planet Chat Channels
Another method for finding an entertainer on your planet is to check the planet or auction channels. Your mileage may vary greatly with this option, since it has not become a convention across the entire entertainer community to use these channels. However, if an entertainer happens to be watching these channels, or another player who is near an entertainer is watching these channels, you're likely to find what you need. While this method may not yield results as often as the others, it certainly does not take much effort and is thus worth a try.

Entertainer Chat Channels
If you want to find an entertainer when you're in the middle of nowhere and don't know where to go, most, if not all, servers have channels set up for entertainers to use, and that non-entertainers can use to find us. Below is a listing of each server's channel name known at the time of this writing. Simply type /chatroom join chat.channelname to join the channel, and then ask where to find one of us. You may even be able to entice some of us to come to you. This is by and large the easiest way to find entertainers when you're, say, stranded on Endor with no idea where to go. If your server is not listed, and there doesn't seem to be an entertainer channel on your server, you can help create one! You can create one yourself or ask some entertainers to do it, but either way, the more you get the word out, the more entertainers will be on the channel.

I figured with the new inspirations coming out, it'd be a good time to rehash this guide (ok, change 'heal or buff' to be 'inspire') and put it up again for people to use.

These are nice bits of advice but...

I think the what the devs really need to do next for Entertainers is find a way for us to be much easier to find. A terminal in any cantina that shows you what activity is going on in ALL cantinas on EVERY planet would be a huge help.

Well, used all of these and they are good suggestions but on Tarq it took me two days and a very generous offer in the trade forum to find a novce musician to buff me. It was a bot created by a crafter because you can not find a musician on Tarq. There are two in the list. They do not respond to tells when they are online. The one has an AFK message to use the stage entrance if you want a buff. No planet and city. I have spent 4 hours traveling planets and using these techniques and some servers do not have entertainers besides AFK bots.

Yes, I know it is not your fault. You are talking to a guy that has a MCH alt since release. The problem all crafters have, and it is more pronounced on the less heavily populated servers, is we lost the Inspiration buff entirely. The old AFK buff only works for combat characters. This really has to be addressed. I think they should make all buffs require ATK but the Uber L33t dudes would get that backed off in a day. How would entertainers feel about restoring the 10% exp but not the 2% resource buff to AFK bots?

The terminal sounds like a great idea. I am a Master Musician and have always had rouble finding an ATK Ent group leader, another addition to the terminal could perhaps be a NPC group leader that entertainers can ask to be in the group, so ents never have the problem of finding a group. Ents will still be able to start player groups but for people who are going to be afk while on shouldnt have to worry about getting kicked or losing their group.

I think they should go head and expand the buffs into the other professions. Be cool if there was a one specfic to the certain combat professions. Like +10 Pistol Defense and Speed. They should at least add Scouting to the mix, give them harvesting bonuses. Really helps with the Interdependance thing.

Also keep in mind that entertainers also have other interests. Today I gave my first two profession specific buffs (hooray!!). For the first one, he came to the cantina where I was performing. For the second I got a tell while I was swerving my way across Dathomir and I met her in the cantina in a crafting city on Naboo. So if you're searching cantinas for an entertainer and not finding one, you might be surprised to learn that one is just over the hill exploring the Gungan Sacred Place or the Ruined Jedi Temple.

When there is a sun by the catina on the plantery map does that mean a Novice ATK Musician/Dancer is there?

Not necessarily. What that means is that there is a Novice Musician or Dancer who has "registered" in that location. It says nothing to their ATK/AFK status. It just meant that they were in the cantina and "registered" and have not yet logged or walked outside the doors.

They may be ATK....or may be AFK and spamming. They may not even be playing music or dancing. The registration is only if they are there and of sufficient level.

Thanks for the info about the entertainer chat channels--never knew they were there. Guess I'll give that a shot (my final attempt) to find someone next time I need the architect buff--I've all but given up.

I know the subject of allowing entertainers to provide services while AFK is a taboo subject around here, but after spending a significant amount of my playing time attempting to find a musician to inspire me without success, I'm about done with it,and I wonder how many others will tire of the fruitless search and give up also. I only use it in crafting one item: harvesters, and my sales of harvesters crafted while not inspired are selling well enough that I don't need the headache.

Hey Milanna,

This is Zyre Mercutio of the band the Kreetles. If you need master musician buffs look for these people, Krystyana, Iago, Yro, Giny, Tasno, Prisha, or myself. That of course goes for anyone else looking for Gorath musician inspiration buffs.
