Thread: I love entertainer, but....

I hate to say it but I'm getting close to dropping music and dancing due to the way I've been treated in the last few days. I am not a buffbot, nor do I ever wish to be a buffbot. I have no desire to to dance away with little respect from other players as the leader of a solo group on Dantooine. I'm sick of people demanding me to make groups and do buffs. I'm sick of feeling like I'm nothing more than an emotionless, dancingrobot to make other people happy. I can't master dancer since getting healing xp is non-exsistent since the buffbots get all the customers. I'm sick of having to dress in as little of possible and flirt with every single person out there to get just one person to watch me but only to have them ask 10 seconds later "Can you buff me?" or "Are your buffs as good as <insert buffbot name here>?".

I know the recursive macro nerf is coming but not soon enough. It's sad that the most fun professions are the most hated and disrespected ones out there. I've met most of my in-game friends as an entertainer and I enjoy doing other things with them more than dancing the night away in the cantina at the moment.

I personally didn't have amazing experiances on Dantooine, either healing XP wise or interaction-wise... if you are looking for healing XP by far the best places seem to be Coronet and Theed (in general Theed has more Live people and a better atmosphere)

Personally I like Mos Eisley on my server, while there isn't a great flow of Healing XP the people that come through are genrally nice (quite a few are supprised that I am an ATK player At the moment there do not seem to be many bots in their either (there has never been a buff-bot *touches wood*in but there has been regular AFK-all-day-type).

If you enjoy doing other things as well doo them. If you are not happy entertaining at a certain timeyou shouldn't. After you have taken a break from it for a while (be it an hour, day, wekk or month) you may come back to it with renewed enthusiams and vigor!

I'm truly sorry. No one deserves to be treated that way.

I think you need a break. If you have an alt, I'd recommend playing that. If you're like me and don't, maybe you need to drop either dance or music and try some combat or crafting. I think you might regret dropping it all, and it would be sad for you to leave altogether just because people can't be nice. We've lost too many good people already.

I dont' know what else to say other than we've all been there. Does your server have a live ent community? EOF has helped me cope a lot, and you might be able to find a dancer/musician to team up with to do simultaneous buffing.

I have for the most part given up on giving out buffs or trying to earn my income through dance. If someone is nice and asks me or if I am in a good mood I will offer the service, but for the more part I just dance to entertain my friends and those who are looking for a role play friendly enviroment.

Nothing says you have to play the way they want, do things your way. Politely decline to join their groups. Say no to those who demand a buff. It is ok to decline someone's attempt to force you to be their personal game mechanic dispensor. You won't be banned for being poilte while declining to bend over for those who want to exploit your presence.

Unfortunately most of us have that same feeling at one time or another. The solutions aren't easy as they will vary by individual play style and server "atmosphere".

Do you network with other Live Performers? This is whathas really saved my experience on Shadowfire. Deli'ah, Buzzz, and Tanoo are great at sharing my angst about the zomibification of our usual hangouts and we can always arrange to meet at particular cantinas.

I think the tide is starting to turn, it's slow, frustratingly slow at times, but I have encountered more people recently who appreciate live performers. Most still have the habit of running in and looking for their usual bot regardless of your greeting them. But take heart that there are those out there who appreciate what you do.

Lately I've been working on pistols and flying. I no longer wear my master entertainer title, and I was so proud of it when I got it. My friends have been really supportive and are helping me out when they can. They have even gone so far as topersuade me to keep my entertainer skills for now. They like being able to go on hunts with me and have someone in the group to heal mind wounds BF.

I've got a few friends that are entertainers, 1 dancer and 1 musician. We try to get together as much as we can to entertain as a group. We have fun, talk to everyone we see, flirt with them on occassions, and just have fun as a band. Even have droids to play back-up music with band flourishes.

As fun as entertaining is, the general lack of respect shown towards us is very discouraging to become a master. Until things change for the better, I will no longer entertain the masses. My friends and guildmates are going to be the only ones to benefit from my entertainer skills.

Right, this social profession is lacking in the social tools and experiences available to the player. Instead, we're tied down with tools that would benefit only a support profession. I may come back when I'm no longer looking at forced interaction, and instead can find my primarymarket wanting to interact with me. Nobody really wanted to come visit me more as an entertainer than theynow that I've returned to combat, so why bother playing the "social" professions as they currently stand? If you don't find the rewardyou want from entertaining....then I'd suggest taking a break from the profession. I'm not going to be silly and say "stick it out, for great things are to come." I'd rather master it again when it's more in line with what I believe the social professions should be. It's not like the "grind" was a painful one, anyway

I do feel very sorry for you however I have not had quitethe same sort of experience myself. I've always been ATK and find that people show a lot of appreciation for a live entertainer. I've received very complementary tells from several saying, "Wow, a live dancer!" in an area thatis most commonlyfilled with bots.

Now of course I've had several experiences where people are clearly not interested in interacting with my character, but instead would prefer to simply invite a bot, watch/listen, stopwatch/stoplisten, leave. I'm not going to tell someone else what they should be doing with their monthly payment as long as they don't tell me what to do with mine, either. I will continue to dance and emote and smile and perform LIVE, even if there are bots dancing all around me and even if my customers flock to them first.... because, sooner or later, there is one person who is extremely greatful for my presence and in my mind that makes my profession feel worthwhile.

I hope that if you do choose to leave or change professions, you are at least doing what makes you happy.

Last night, I had an incredible experience. I logged on and started talking with a couple of friends. A couple asked me me how my dancing was going and i told them I was no longer going to be dancing until I feel like it. They understood how I felt when I told them why and two of them offered to beat the snot out of the people being rude to me. I was shocked at how much they cared about me and my dancing career. One of my friends asked me to go hunting with the group, rancor hunting. Seeing how I'm a novice pistoleer now (only novice, still working on my first box), I was a little apprehensive about hunting rancors. I went anyway and had a blast!

After the eight missions we had were done, we went to Lok to heal up and hunt there. One of the group members had taken a mind disease from a rancor and needed healing really bad. We went to their guild hall and I danced to heal to the group, after insisting that he get his mind healed before hunting anything else. Not a single one of them asked for a mind buff at all, I was shocked and amazed. We ended up hunting Kimogilas, gurks, and snorbals is a really good spawn location.

Later on after buffs wore off, I went to Coronet to get some wound healing. I went to the cantina after getting healed to get rid of my bf and mind wounds. I asked if there were any live entertainers out of the twenty or so entertainers were there, only two were. I ended up playing music with a nice girl that was working on dancing. We ended up going to Theed to get away from the buffbots, spam, and AFK macrotainers. Theed is pretty nice, virtually no spam and very, very few AFK enertainers. I danced a little bit and threw some heals around to the other dancers and musicians that were performing. All in all, it was a very fun evening.

I'm still a little sour on performing for the masses, but I think on occasions I'll be going to Theed to work ondance and music when I feel like it. And just when I was considering dropping dance and music to do other things, LOL.
