I posted this briefly in the entertainer forum, but that was more a technical how to, and directed to all entertainers. This is more of a simple how to for dancers specifically.
Over the past few days I've been playing with aliases a little bit. I found a way to make it really easy to build basic dance routines. I like to call it "smart flourishes".
If you download this alias file and save it in your SWG folder, you can use it yourself. I have all the timing down for all the old flourishes on the dances in here. If you want the new flourishes too, you're on your own. Footloose and formal 4 are the only exception. Rhythmic would be an exception too but I discovered it's new flourishes you can interrupt at any time, so that made figuring out timing a bit difficult.
Anyway, onto the good stuff.. How you use this..
Once you load the file (/load dances.txt) you can string together flourishes and even dance changes. Each flourish will go to completion before the next one starts. So, for example, to go through all the popular flourishes, then switch to poplock and do flourish 1, stopping dancing at the end...
/popularflo1 popularflo2 popularflo3 popularflo4 popularflo5 popularflo6 popularflo7 popularflo8 topoplock poplockflo1 stopdance
There is also two commands to switch between band and normal mode. /setbandon and /setbandoff, specifically. You can even use them within a routine.. For example, to have everyone do flourish 1 in exotic, then one person break out and do flourish 2 of formal, then join back up for flourish 2 of exotic...
/setbandon exotic2flo1 toformal setbandoff formalflo2 setbandon toexotic2 exotic2flo2
Theres a few other aliases in there.. Those are to allow me to create smartflourish hotkeys.. IE I hit a flourish, then while doing that one, I hit another, and it does the second one as soon as the first one stops. And of course I can use either solo or group versions for this with the same hotkeys. If anyone is interested in the macros to go with those aliases, let me know.. Theres no easy way to add them without creating them all by hand, that I know of.
Be warned that using aliases causes text to scroll by. These smart flourishes don't just use them, they abuse them heavily, so a lot of text will scroll by. Since alias messages can't be filtered out in the chat window, I ended up creating a second chat window with all the tabs (Leaving none on the first chat window) and hiding the main chat window. This effectively hides the aliases, though I do lose a little bit of functionality.
The timings are just rough numbers right now. I've already found two that were too short. I haven't had much time trying this out though, so if you miss a flourish, just extend the delay on the previous flourish in the dances.txt file. You can also add other things like tech effects by creating aliases that incorporate them along with a flourish, but I leave that as an excercize to the reader.
