Honest Question I'm curious about.

Who here doesn't like cantina fighting and why?

--By cantina fighting I mean duels between players or even pvp encounters

I used to be a dancer and I loved watching it. But I was on my alt and went into a cantina to chill while I was waiting for friends to gather and a guy was being an absolute jerk to everyone. He wouldn't leaveany ofthe females alonealone. He started in on me, so out of boredom I dueled him. Then one of the dancers freaked and refused to dance. I asked her the reason and she said cause she doesn't like it. Thats the only reason I got. Now honestly Star Wars was never my thing. My room-mate started playing it and I was tired of EQ so I gave it a chance. From my understanding the cantina's had fighting in the books and it wasn't anything big. So she was upset that we roleplayed?

The rest of the crew was afk and I haven't found any other dancers to ask so I figured might as well try here.

Radarfin,

Well I can only speak for myself, but I think cantiana fights are a great part of roleplay. Now the way its handled in most cantinas is far from roleplay as l337 jerks try to goad newbies into a duel so they can somehow feel better about themselves. That said normaly when a cantina fight breaks out I object in character and will usually stop dancign long enough to run to a safe side of the cantina. I do get back to dancing as soon as roleplay will permit becuase people still need their healing. So for me the answer is I like watching them, but my character does object to them

The only time cantina fighting annoys me is when jerks come running in searching for people with TEF's to pick on. It just turns into a giant grudge match, particularly since usually the hunted is killed before the hunter even loads on screen, making it entirely unfair. It's like camping the starport: completely without class. I've also seen people shoot down overts/tef's who are either loading or have gone LD in the cantina. Just disgusting.

I know that if you have a tef or are overt, expect to be shot - but to be sniped from outside loading range, or to be smacked while loading or LD, and have no opportunity to fight back, is just intolerable.

I've noticed that a lot of girls will chastise anyone who fights inside the cantina, telling the duelers to take it outside. I'm not sure, but I think their reasoining behind it is that they want people to be able to come into cantina and rest up their wounds and relax. They kind of want the cantina to be a safe place kind of thing. I've heard the same about med centers. One dancer told me that cantinas and med centers are places to be healed.. fighting defeats the purpose. I can understand that logic, but I personally don't mind the fighting in the cantina at all.

The frontline is everywhere.

I like roleplayed fighting in a cantina. I tend to ignore non-roleplayers, fighting or not.

I personally enjoy a good duel in the cantina. If someone is harrasing the dancers I see it as a natural RP wayto handle it. I applaud anyone who steps up for the entertainers and challenges people tormenting them to a duel.

It amuses me.

But while doing a buff, I don't go running off, however I do duck blasts- rolepla wise at least.

Itwas well said- the frontline is everywhere. The only reason it bothers me is in a city that's already clogged with people, which causes lag. I get more irritated when they give us warning! "Prepare for lag you guys!" drives me crazy because if they have time to warn us, they have time to take it outside.

But other than lag, it IS an aspect of roleplay. Cantina's are essentially bars. Obiwan chopped off an arm in self defense and no one batted an eyelash. Han shot Greedo before Greedo could pull the trigger, and no one cared. (The storm troopers don't count.)

I can understand Objecting in Naboo or Coronet because they are more 'civilized' han rough and tumbe tatooine. But Everywhere else seems like everything is fair game.

There's a civil war going on, and it's everywhere. It's a guerilla war, meaning it's not always fought on battlefields, but at times spills onto the streets of our cities, especially those cities that are known to be "hotspots" with one of the factions.

People can certainly roleplay how they wish when a battle erupts in the cantina, but as players we need to understand that this will happen and there's nothing inherently wrong with it considering the storyline of the game we're playing.

If it truly bothers someone, my advice would be to perform in a location away from the known hotspots of the war.

For the record, Coronet and Theed are hotspots. Big ones.

Back in the day when we had to walk six miles in 3 feet of snow uphill all the way...

/me clears throat

The girls and I use to run fighters out of "our" cantina in KV because we didn't want our stage turned into a war-zone. At one point we even considerred hiring some of the "regulars" as bouncers. Ha! It was exciting to watch, but we didn't want to get hurt!

I love Cantina fights.

I think too many people mistake the Cantina for a formal ballroom.

Han Solo was a gentleman in his "disagreement" with Greedo...after all...he did leave something "to clean up the mess."...why don't more cantina fighters give me something to "clean up the mess?"

A real r/p fight? Yeah, that's all good. Especially if it's been caused by some drunk human messing with Chii's lek'ku. Again. =P But when they just randomly come in, looking for TEF'd people, or just to be OOC jerks? That bugs me. Because it's done for no good reason, and it does mess with the mood. Cantina's may not be calm, soothing places, yes they may be bars, but even in bars, when fights break out, there's always *someone* trying to get it away from the non-participants (if there are any).

From an r/p standpoint, however, yeah, Chii flips out whenever there's a fight, but that's 'cos Chii hates blasters and used to be downright terrified of them. So of course there would be a small twi'lek in the corner flipping out. ^_^ Like I said, I just can't stand folks who want an easy PvP kill so they intentionally go looking for folks who are already hurt.
