1:
don't expect to be tipped if your afk.
2:
even if your not afk that afk symbol over your head will discourage tips.
3:
when someone walks in wave to them wink at them try to get there attention
4:
once you have there attention don't loose it, try talking to them tell them takea load off watch me ill heal all your mind wounds.
5:
if they start upa convesation hint around how dancers and entertainers never get tipped, also just use that in regular chat between your entertainer firends talk loud enough for non ppl in the group to hear.

those 5 tips should get you more "tips"

ohh yeah and if that dosn't work write there name down and next time they come in complain to your dancer firends that he never tipped you might make him feel bad

My tips for more tips...................this has been said before but can be reiterated.

Do what you enjoy. If you really hate a dance, don't do it! Or, at least, make it fun. You've never seen a white girl work it like Miri doing the poplock......... LOL

If you're outgoing, Work the crowd: Pay attention to who is in your cantina, greet people as they enter, smile. If people want to talk, they will talk and you should keep the conversation going. If they don't, leave them alone and let them heal up in peace.

Be polite to everyone. Thank people for tips and heals. (I tip the medics who go out of their way to heal me a lot, too. It costs money to make those stimpacks.)

That's what works for me. Of course, last night I had people in the cantina lining up to be mind diseased to help me out with xp, but that's another story altogether *giggle*

Only one tip necessary: flirt.

I always tip the good flirters. What? They may be a man. What do I care? I had fun, and isn't that the point?

My advice is probably unpopular. But here it goes...

Attract tips by being yourself and enjoying what you're doing. It shows in the end much better than being too obviously trying to attract tips.

But more than that, if you need money, pick up a combat profession. I'm a master dancer, master entertainer, and master musician and I still have enough skill points left over to get several boxes into Fencer. At this level, I can rake in cash VERY quickly (compared to tips) through destroy missions and they are not difficult to do. You don't have to be master anything to make decent money as a combatant, so just pick up something basic for the sake of having a source of revenue.

Exactly. And the combat thing isn't as hard as it seems..........really.

I'm 4-2-4-3 dancer and novice fencer (and novice musician and working on novice image design and well.....lots of things.)

Also, don't beg for tips. Blatant begging annoys people.

When I'm not dancing, I generally thow tips to one dancer and one musician, and then proceed to throw heals around to everyone. Then the people that directly tell me I should tip them... they don't get crap from that point forward. no tip, no heal.

I do agree with all the others. I got a 4,000 credit tip a couple nights ago. And didn't do much beyond a /wave /wink and a couple /smile's. It isn't too hard, just be there and interact.

Showing skin without being slutty also helps immensely.

Also, never piss off the medics. At the least, thank them in general if not the specific one(s) healing you. If you piss them off, you won't be able to pull a 6 hour stretch of non stop dancing.

And yes, combat skills help when the tips run dry. 3/3/3/3 Marksman here, and that can bring me a lot of cash(especially leveraging the fact that I can heal all my wounds solo in the field). 2/0/2/0 Artisan, 2/0/1/2 scout, novice medic also helps me with cash flow. Dancing is not a stable income for most people to do as their sole source.

If you really don't want to go combat, you can always do delivery missions(gig missions don't pay nearly enough to be worth the trouble). Once you have around 300 credits to buy a round trip shuttle ticket, you can rake in mad cash. Take two deliveries to one city, then two more on the way back, and you can easily make 4k in half an hour or less.

Calling them out by name really helps. It shows you took the time to actually type their name, which is more than most. Besides that, a good sense of humor helps a LOT. Example: A Trandoshan walks in. A good "Hey tall, dark, and scaley!" works EVERY time.

And also, and I think this must be said, I do believe that on most servers, players really want to support good entertainment, and they are reasonable enough to assume that in order to make sure entertainers are entertaining, they have to make it so they can earn a decent living without having to do destroy or delivery missions. That being said, it is also the case that if you are behind the keyboard, and nobody knows it, then you are just as worthy of a tip as an AFKer. Therefore, take great pains to craft your spatials and your emotes in such a way as to leave no doubt they are coming from a live player.

Good points, but I have to stress that point 5 can be tricky. Hinting about not being tipped can be just as annoying as begging. If you have to hint, I'd rather say, "I'm saving up for a swoop bike." Insert house, starport ticket to see the forests of Endor, etc., as needed.

And I wouldn't want to make a client feel bad about not tipping. Mostly because I see two types of players:
1) Players who don't tip anyone. They are selfish and believe that every other player is just asworthy as an NPC. They won't pay unless they have to. Making them feel guilty won't change anything.
2) Players who do tip. Maybe they had an off day and just plain forgot. Maybe they just bought a nice suit of composite armor with their last credit and haven't had a chance to make that money back. Maybe they have really high standards and didn't feel you were entertaining enough (I know...the fool!). Whatever the reason, there is a reason, and I'm not going to question it. If he doesn't like the fact that I don't wear a flesh wrap, then who am I to demand a tip because my character is modest?

Greeting people is great. Sometimes it's enough. Keep in mind that clever spam bots can do this too. Of course, those macros tend to target other dancers or pets and welcome them to the cantina, so they're not foolproof. I greeted someone by name as he came in. He asked if that was just a programmed greeting. I assured him that I was a real person and dancing for the sake of those who keep the city clean. I got a nice, healthy tip from him. Greeting by name or waving is good, but also give some definite feedback that obviously is in response to something else. A /laugh can be good, but a spam bot can also just laugh out of the blue. Instead, you can say, "A shaved Wookie. Now that is funny!" The customer knows that it's an interactive conversation then.

I estimate that I've made probably 250k or so off of tips, so I hope I'm doing something right. But the gist is there: Be nice. I don't even flirt with the customers. I just engage in polite conversation and crack a few jokes.

I always get great tips of the basic "Hello! Welcome to the Cantina!" greeting. I don't flirt, or show alot of skin, I just make it known that I'm actually there, and a Master Dancer, not an AFK Holotainer.

The biggest thing about getting tips is this; LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. On Starsider, I've seen groups of 60 or more entertainers grinding on there Holocrons. And in this mess of people, there's always 5 or 6 morons that have a macro to the effect of "/yell PLZ HEAL!; /pause 10;/repeat", or some variation.

I've Mastered Dancer on Kauri, Starsider, and Bria. And if there's one thing I've learned, it's that Coronet Cantina is NOT the place for tips. If I'm lucky, in Coronet, I can pull in maybe 10k a day. In Anchorhead, or on Dathomir or Dantooine, I've pulled in 50k or more in a few hours.

Remember; packs of dancers mean that you're less likely to get tips; Spammers drive away tips; Individuality and good roleplay gets you attention and thus tips.
