Thread: What is content to you?

With every MMORPG, we pay a monthly fee and money for expansions so that the game will keep running, and also for new content to be added to the game. Content is usually separated out from maintenance activities, such as bug fixing, and things such as balancing. For example, they're rebalancing combat over the next few months, but most wouldn't consider that content. If they add new weapons as part of that effort, that would probably be considered content to most. I guess content could be defined as new things going into the game, not rehashing or fixing of existing things.

For combat professions, content is pretty easy to figure out. They want new guns, new armor, new things to kill, new places to explore, new challenges to topple. For crafters, it's also pretty easy..they want new things to build, new resources to find, new abilities for their stores.

Which brings us to entertainers. It's not quite as clear-cut here. I'm not even sure the devs know what content really means for us. I think there's a whole slew of things people would like to see added that they'd consider to be 'content'. Then there's things like our recent enhancement of the mind buffs. Was that content, or was that a fix to an already existing ability in there since launch? What would you consider to be new content for entertainers, and dancers in particular? What would you like to see? What kinds of content would you like to see in the space expansion?

Just thought I'd maybe start a thread that wasn't so negative...and if anyone even mentions the acronym beginning with A and ending with K, yer gonna get spanked.

Content = RP events initiated by game developers... Would we call them GMs in SWG? I'd rather talk to a "live" character with a mission... like have a GM play a high-lvl imperial officer who happens to drop into a player cantina looking for entertainment... and if they should find themselves having fun, perhaps they'd tip a little extra.

Content = More outlandish costumes! Feathers!

Content =Quests to learn new dances... not simply dances that are given to you if you get enough exp. And the ability to dance with a partner. I want to do the Foxtrot!

Just a few thoughts.

I still like the idea of doing something similar to something in EQ (wait wait! keep reading ^-^)

We still get a ton of exp after master until we top out.

Since we only 'learn' dancer after a certain ammount of exp...

It would be nice to have a slew of dances that you could only 'learn' (aka- purchase with experience points) after master. Perhaps having each 'new' dance take just as many points as it takes to 'top' out your exp. Don't have them give anymore than master usually does though.

Perhaps it could be going to the Dancer trainer (This would also work for musicians in music I would think...)to 'learn' the dance. But not have to learn them in a particular order. And these wouldn't have 2 versions of the dance- (Poplock 1, poplock 2) just the clean one.

Not having to buy in a particular order would allow master dancers to, aside from having more stuff to look forward to, be a bit more diverse. (until finally buying them all but I would hope that if something like this were implemented, by then we'd have more ideas ^-^)

Of course, it would require us to think up some dance ideas....

I'd like to see individualized venues. If each cantina had a different floorplan and ambience than the others, I'd consider that to be grade-A content. The other obvious addition would be new dances, new flourishes, and elimination of repeated flourishes. The main change that would make dancing more fun for me is brought up at least three times a day on each of the entertainer forums, however, so I'll just leave that unspoken.

With regard to the mind buff, I don't really consider that to be content. It's just a buff, and I didn't choose to play a dancer because I wanted to buff people; I chose dancer because I wanted to be both social and creative. A buff is a buff is a buff, and all buffs are ultimately unrelated to every reason I had for playing the profession. I'm not unhappy to have the ability, but it's nothing I would have chosen if it were up to me.

What this game has always lacked for the entertainer professions is a solid way to play that didn't involve the element that is out of our control - Other players. Yes, I get that the entertainer professions were meant for socializers, but that does not mean that there not also shouldhave been a working solo player experience built into this aspect of the game too. Lets face it.. Without the ability to enjoy the game during those times when none of your friends are online or when you can't find anyone wanting mind heals the game is sadly lacking for the entertainer. The entertainer missions have as much thought and excitement in them as an AFK macro.

Entertainers need player vs enviroment content. They need a challenging way to gain skill anda challenging way to earn money when other players are not able to provide it.

Actually, that's a really good idea. If there were something, anything, that was fun to do while alone in a cantina, I'd probably even travel around to the smaller fringe cities on unpopular planets from time to time. I guess the real question would be, "like what?"

Mini-games would be a nice start. Dart boards, board games, or other Star Wars-specific activities would be great. If the payouts were inversely proportionate to the population of the city (the fewer the people in the city, the more money you could win in the game), it might even encourage non-entertainers to vacation at a cantina on Talus from time to time.

Having the entertainer missions provide not only better financial rewards, but alsoexperience (knowledge and healing) would be a nice touch, as well. Given the fact that the social element of the entertainer professions has been critically injured by afkers and abandoned planets, a workable method of soloing does seem to be a logical alternative to standing alone in a barren cantina just hoping and praying that someone nice will walk through the door.

I really did choose to play a dancer because I loved socializing, but I've all but stopped playing the game recently simply because I had nobody left to talk to. While soloing doesn't sound as fun as actually talking to people, at least it would be an option when there's nobody around but an afk discobot and his shadow.

maby put a higher payout into our missions, and havea decent percentage of them,if not all ofthem have a random npc that you have to entertain (dancer or musician), and you have to talk to, with various options (like the chat system they have now for npc's, but with more options) and depending on the options you choose the npc will tip more, or less cred, with a fixed rate of 300 cred, and a max of 1000 cred, or something. and as you dance the npc gives entertainer healing exp.

it would add content to our people, as well as give us a way to make cred in a dead city, or cantina, and it would give the needed entertainer healing exp.

i dont know if it is possible, but i think it is a good idea, like many of the other suggestions in here.

More dances, more flourishes.

More dancer missions with better payouts.

Like other folks said, I'd like to see new dances, improvements to the entertainer missions, and new dancing attire. I'd also like to see the new attire be something you either need to complete a dancing mission to get, or have it be something you become "certified" for at some level of dance (Novice Dancer, perhaps?).
