Dancer Archive
Thread: question for raven or anyone...
Did you know...
Football players are able to increase their agility by attending several levels of ballet class? Imagine. Those big buff manly football players needing a 'pansy' sort of sport like Ballet?
But it sure pays off when you have to evade the enemy to get to the goal, no?
Dance creates lean firm muscle, agility and balance. Gymnastics does the same thing (only in different ways)
Humans are not born knowing how to move- it comes with time and practice- why do you think 12 year olds with no gym/dance actually dance like they have their finger in a light socket?
I have known dancers from ballet and jazz come into our dojo- not knowing a thing about combat, and be more flexible, and able to learn than a basketball player who comes in. The dancers have a natural grace and ability that is learned over time with practice. They train their bodies to recognise every single muscle and ever single movement that muscle is capable of and they cultivate it.
Then, when they go to learn a circle throw in jujitsu, or "Crane spreads its wings' in Tai Chi, they are ahead of the class because they do not have to learn to use their muscles correctly- they already know how.
