Thread: Finally got my wife to seriously play SWG

I created a character for her on Starsider. She wanted to start as an entertainer/dancer. I don't know anything about the entertainer professions so I was not a big help at first since all of my alts were fighter/medic professions. I think she is slowly learning how to level up. She asked someone how to get dance XP all on her own. She still does not talk to many people yet unless she needs help. Her name is Annamaria Lastsabre. She enjoys it so far and I'm trying to keep her playing too, maybe even get another account so we can both play together. As of now I only have the 1 account. The only problem is that she is now hogging my gametime, but at least she bought me Battlefront (very funPvP) for my PS2. Now she plays SWG while I play Battlefront. Any tips for a new dancer that I can give her?

1. She will need her own account before she gets too attached to the character on your account. Mwaahahahahaaa... ahem.

2. Whenever she does a flourish tell her to do two flourishes in quick succession. This will get her more xp than just doing one.

3. Um. Tell her about the /addignore command so that if she meets any unpleasant people she can just /addignore them and they won't hurt her game experience. Also the deny service command if she gets really upset with someone - I've never used this though, so someone else can maybe supply the exact command?

4. Holding a weapon in your hand, like a knife or a combat staff, will keep you from falling so much.

5. Have fun! Talking with people is hard at first but it gets easier the more you do it.

Edit: Lithium seems to like justified text today.

Edit 2: (crawls under desk in embarrasment)

Reading your post reminded me so much of the time years ago when my husband finally convinced me to try an on line game he was playing at that time.
Next thing you know, we were bickering like little children over who’s turn it was to play next.
So we ended up getting a second computer and second game account.

The only advice about dancing I can give is to have fun, don’t watch the clock or exp bar but have fun dancing and when levels come they come.

Also you should point her to this forum, there are so many questions answered here, so much of useful and beneficial information.
I have found answers here for questions I have not even thought about asking till I was reading them.
Now I here at every coffee break and in between

If you have two machines and can be online at the same time create yourself a musician and play for her. It lets the two of you spend some time together, work on coordinated routines which really makes you enjoy the craft, and will make it easier for her to break out of her shell.

LOL My wife has been playing almost as long as I have. I got the game played for about a month and then we decided that she needed one too.

Like one of the other posters said....Get her on her own account before she gets too attached. (And if she does, there's always the Character Transfer Service. )

On Starsider (YAY!), Theed has become very new entertainer-friendly lately. No buff-bots to speak of, some AFKing going on, but a lot of dancers there most hours of the day. The clientele can be a little crass, but that's tne nature of the business. Mos Eisley used to be a hotbed of RP goodness, but I haven't been there in a while, so I don't know if the new character entry point being moved there has changed that or not.

If she needs any help and I'm around, feel free to have her give me a tell. I am always willing to help someone out.

While double flourishing, as I like to call it, works for musicians to get the music XP higher for some reason, I have never found this to be true for dancing. As far as I can tell it only burns action faster, but does nothing for boosting dance XP. I don't know if others have found differently. The only other advice I have that I haven't seen someone else state yet, is to encourage her to get into ent groups with other live entertainers, and look into joining the Entertainer chat channel if there is one on StarSider. It's good to start meeting the local ents, and start finding out about the events on that server. Of course Bria and Flurry are another couple of good servers for ent events, but maybe I'm biased.

She is correct, double flourishing is for musicians only.

...note to self: Stop double-flourishing on Starsider and TC characters!! And even soap and water will not remove that large "L" from your forehead!!

Heck, I've only been playing an entertainer for what? Three.... four months... ::BLUSH::

Yes, I agree. When I'm buffing I have a macro that causes me to flourish five times every 10 seconds. My experience does not increase anymore than if I did one flourish for every 8 seconds or "tick."

All the advice given here so far is great. If she's starting to get hooked then definately get that second account soon. Or be prepared to pay the 30 dollars to transfer her character when you do.

Best advice I can give is to try and get her hooked up with the local ent community. There's a strong ent community or two on most servers that most the non-afk non-buffbot people know about or belong to. Its where your most likely to find an active group of entertainers who really enjoy the profession and are a lot of fun to hang out and talk with. If she can fall in with a good group like that I think her gaming experience will be all the better. A lot of people in public cantina's unless your lucky aren't always the most friendly groups. But on the other hand I've met a lot of great people in public cantinas. hehehe...

Oh, and have her start an entertainer on Bria and get her to a Cantina crawl sometime. Those are a Blast!

I started playing MMORPGs a few years ago with my husband on his account... he eventually had to go buy me my own account. We eventually moved to SWG, now here we are, 5 computers and 7 accounts later (Don't worry, I still leave the house on occassion) LoL

You need to purchase your wife her own account. Set her up on your server so you guys can play together. My husband and I play together and we havea really good time I got over my chat shyness by having him to talk to, and then others were drawn into our chat, and the rest is history!!

Tell your wife about this forum! Even if you have to drag her kicking and screaming to this forum, it's well worth it.There isso much information here..dancing guides, and techniques used by Master Dancers, and of course, talk about clothes. The info just goes on and on!

Aside for the advice she can meet some really great people. I noticed your tag thingsays you're on Chilastra which is the server my husband and I are on. If you do decide to get your wife her own account, have her get in touch with Ingrata, my main character, and I'd be more than happy to help her on the road to Master Dancer. I would also like to point out that there are other fabulous entertainers on our server. To be honest, there are fabulous entertainers on every server

Take care, and good luck!

I was wondering if we have any more husband/wife or partners who play together ...

Double flourishing seemed to give me more XP when I first started, but as of Footloose it definately didn't anymore. Not sure about Basic2 and Rhythmic2, but with Basic and Rhythmic it might still be worth a shot.
