Thread: What Is A Real Entertainer? Are You One? Are You A Public Service Provider? What Is This All About?

This debate in regards to AFK style play Vs. ATK style play in the Entertainer field is interesting to me. So interesting that I decided to go undercover to see what it was all about. I and everyone else has an opinion about this issue but I decided that my opinion was just based off what I have read from everyone else and my limited interactions with the AFK and ATK Entertainers. I like to know what I am talking about so I figured that going undercover as a Dancer was my only option to find out what the real deal was.

I created a female dancer character and with the help of an unnamed sexy source I began to level up in my new chosen profession. The life of an Entertainer is so different from that of the Adventurers and Crafters that I am so used playing. The social skills are from another world entirely and the tools of the trade become clothing and home design rather than a factory or a weapon. It is a strange world to me now. But I vow to you that I will become like a native and thrive.

Well I've personally beleive that AFk has lead to the downfall of socailizing in the Cantina. These days im often having trouble finding actual people to communicate with......

I was a dancer from the start of SWG and there were plently of people who enjoyed dancing and all. But now it's all about this grind and buffing.

Just out of curiosity, are you leveling ATK, AFK or both?

hm... you may want to have a look at this thread:
What do you like about dancing

Additional I want to add following:
I think it is different for everyone, that makes them become dancer. IMHO one can always find good company and things that are fun if (s)he just wants to, the secret is to not limit yourselves to the things that everybody does but keep an open mind. One of the most common mistakes is to limit oneselves to cantina, while the galaxy is so big...
I guess everybody of us had some boring hours with no one but zombies around, that just happens sometimes, especially when you're not in the mood to find anything interesting. But that doesn't mean that it has to be that way, when you're willing to show some initiative.
Clothes is something special. I don't know how much the clothes make a difference to the audience, it's mostly because it makes a difference to ourselves. And it is fun indeed. Tailors are usually among the best friends of entertainer, and dancers in particular.
Most of us have a number of friends that come around when we are performing, get their mind buffs and watch and chat a bit. Most of us have a guild where some other entertainers are, so that we wouldn't need to perform anything alone.

I hope you find out what you were going to seek, and who knows? Maybe you'll find it's fun being dancer. Being entertainer does not mean you can't be combatant at the same time; Sharven is master fencer, too, and working on master brawler. One thing I would very much suggest is scout, for the ability to set up camps. (Next to no one sets up a camp for you if you want to start dancing in the middle of nowhere, but they all come running when you do it yourself)

So, have fun, audience with open pockets and the Force with you!

PS: Being a dancer must not mean not being adventurer. It can be an adventure on it's own.

I allways treated the entertainer proffessions as pure social proffession, never something to grind through.

I used to log into the cantina to socialise, what skills i had or didnt have as a dancer/musician made no difference to me at all really, altho it was more fun to get the higher dances again each time i restarted.

Ive mastered dancer a total of 7 times, and musician twice, and very small amounts was afk (like for getting coffee etc) But my dancer character(s) have allways be 'alts' and not main characters, i play my dancer(s) often at the start and end of my play times, and occassionally all day, kinda depends on how active everyone around me is and if i got many people to chat with.

I know there is a lot of people who treat the proffession the same as i am, unfortunatly when you log in and see no one at the keyboard, they probably go out doing combat (being a second proffession) or log to another character like i often do.

Untill we remove the AFK dr0nes from our cantina's i dont think we will ever feel happy about them :/

i'll still go to the cantinas every now and then, but until macros are fixed it will be 80% sleep fest in there, and the most popular cantina on tarq is alot of bots too, so still converations are rare unless its the weekend. therefore i mostly only hang out in player city cantinas with friends and guildmates. But once a day i do make a trip to the npc cantinas to heal BF, buffs, etc.

This is a cool thread. When you finish try to go to a server where you have nothing and know nothing and do it again. Try to level all ATK. You learn things about people and yourself I promise.

Also when you are finished with your experiment make sure to attend a cantina crawl so you can compare that level of entertaining to what you have been experiencing. Its an eye-opener, speaking from my own experience.

I enjoy reading these types of "memoirs." I always think I should be doing something like this myself considering how much I post, but I never get around to it.

But, this reminds me of a hilarious "diary" I was reading on the ID forums about 6 months ago. I wish I could dig it up for those of you who haven't seen it. There's really no way to describe it except pure comedy. Perhaps some other ID's know what I'm talking about?

At any rate, keep up the story, I'm curious to read more of your undercover pursuits.
