This idea came up on the GCW thread as idea for factioned buffing, but the more I thought about it, the more I liked it as an idea for all buffing. What if all buffing was restricted to camps and maybe also faction bases? There's been a fair amount of debate on whether the pre-combat preparation process should include stopping by the cantinas. That wouldn't happen anymore. Buffing would occur out in the field, and considering that our buffs often don't last as long as a doctor's buff, it would be received just before it was needed. Buffbots would vanish from all cantinas public and private as well as in the tucked away private houses without even touching macros or any macro commands. If Buffy the Bot wants to set up shop, the only place to do it would be in a camp well outside a city or out in the middle of nowhere where she can AFK all she wants - until the next aggro creature or NPC spawns or wanders by and sends poor Buffy to the cloner (oh, and damages that +25 mind enhancement outfit). Now if the combat players really want that buff, they'll need to be sure they bring an entertainer or two along with them, or at least invite them out briefly and make it worth their while.
Camps would also become more important again which is good for scouts and rangers. The only problem this doesn't fix is the entertainer alt/slaves, but there's not much that can be done about that. If someone wants to go through the trouble of making another account to drag a doctor or ent along (or even a crafter) just to service their main, there's not much anyone can do about that other than increase the difficulty of playing each profession. Right now even a doctor needs to spend some credits or effort to be functionally useful, but anyone who can copy a macro or program a hotkey can master an ent's mechanics with minimal effort. If you make people have to work to operate their alt, they'll be less likely to do it.
The other option is to allow buffing at a player base. This seems like a reasonable idea to me since a natural place to put support players during a base defense would be in the base itself. Perhaps you could put the additional requirement of having to be overt to buff in a base, this increases the risk for performing this function, as well as leaving an unattended character to perform it. This could still end up being a last haven for bots, but, at least on my server, there aren't that many bases to begin with, they're harder to maintain, and if bots did have to be overt, they would always be vulnerable to attack.

What if buffing were only allowed in faction bases or camps, but you couldn't get BF healing or wound healing there?

Well, I wouldn't want to take camp wound healing away from the scouts and rangers, but BF, yeah, that would be great.

I like this idea, best of both worlds. Cutting down on bots while not completely removing the function of a cantina and the social interaction between entertainers that comes with it. Or maybe only BF and/or wound healing in higher level Ranger camps for big hunts, since the original idea aims to help rangers out a bit too.
