Thread: Wait a minute! Strike that. Reverse it.(The future of Entertainment)
And that it is going to be a very long time until anything can truely be done about it. (see ideas and thoughts on how to keep things fun until then Music Dancer)
So what I want you all to do is to remove from your mind all you know about entertainment. All you know about our place in SWG. Forget all of it. We have no buffing, no BF healing, PvP is balanced and Mind isn't the key stat.
Forgot it all yet ? Good.
Now, If you had free reign to do what ever you wanted however you wanted. What would you design as entertainment in SWG that you would want to play ?
What kind of tie in to the GCW would you want ? Skill advancement ? mechanics ? Tools to generate player made content for us and others ?
Just run wild with it. We have a lot of time here before we get revamped. And I'm hoping that we can be the ones the redesign our profs. Into something that is a Grand Experiment and that becomes a vital part of SWG. Something that when people think SWG they think Ohh that's the game with Those revolutionary Social Profs. That 5 years from now we are all still playing because of these Social Profs.
btw Cookie to the first that gets the title.

Thats a nice start. But seriously the only thing I want out of dancing, cause that's what I do, is to look sweet and graceful, and heal my battle fatigue on my own. I'm not interested in the GCW so I'm not qualified to give an intelligent answer there. clothes, need more clothes, and shopping. dancing provides a need for that, so I'm pretty happy if the dances work. If only I can stop that new revealing skirt from letting my thighs show through all the time. Its the skirt that makes me look fat, not my thighs.

Let us start off this thread with the assumption that Entertainers and our Profs were flawed from the start in their design, implementation and content.(See Music Thread and Dancer Thread)
This has been my opinion for quite a while. Not that the Experiment is a failure, because we have achieved what was initially intended by the Concept of a game for the highly creative and "social" (not thedescriptive I would have chosen)players. We have become a rather extraordinary community of diverse personalities and opinions who all agree on one thing. We like (prefer) playing Entertainers. We have been given an environment in which Community has developed in ways unknown and unexptected in any other MMOG. The whole MMOG industry is looking atour communityand they are amazed and delighted by what we have managed to become, dispite the roadblocks we have been presented with.
We were flawed from the start. There are problems with our base code that limit our potential. Problems that can only be resolved by breaking us down and rebuilding us. These flaws are not gates the devs placed to limit our potential. They are simply points in a flowchart where a lot more needed to be learned than was known at the time. I think what we can become is amazing. I think the devs want to see us become even more. I believe that in order to allow them to develop us to our fullest potential, we will initially have to give up a great deal. Are we willing to loseour pastin order to step into our future?

- Who the hell is this guy?
- Hey, this new guy ain't so bad!
- Wow, this kid's got some potential.
- I haven't seen that guy before... he new?
Likewise, people with very high Fame ratings will get the following reactions:
- By the Emperor, it's <your name>! I can't believe it's him/her!
- <Your name> I love you!
- Is that... no, it can't be! It's <your name>! I love this guy's dancing/music!
- I'm your biggest fan, <your name>!
Notice the inclusion of your in-game name. As your Fame goes up you'll gradually start to see your name in NPC speech more and more.
Fame is generated in many ways. Entertainer Missions now give out a Fame payout in addition to Credits. There is a set Fame generator for performing that is based on the time Skill Animating in the Cantina (i.e. you get 4 Fame Per Hour playing in the Theed Cantina). The number of NPCs/PCs watching and/or listening to you increases the generation rate.Doing the Theater missions and any future quests of the like nets you a big Fame gain.
Fame can not be generated while AFK and it can detect repeated flourishes (so you can't just spam the same flourish or couple flourishes over and over again). Also, if you keep on performing in the same cantina you'll eventually stop getting Fame from that cantina, and you won't gain it again until a set amount of time later.
Fame rewards are well worth the effort. Your Fame level can "purchase" new songs/dances (though no Fame is actually spent). Mission Credit payouts are calculated based on your Fame rating. You get the idea.
Music Hotlist and Dancing Hotlist terminals will be added to cantinas and theaters. Each week the top 10 people on the server for eachcategory with the most fame are listed on the terminal. You can upload your Bio to the terminal for other people to read as well as a snapshot of your avatar's head.
You will eventually start getting mail messages from various NPCs as your Fame increases. Some are just fan letters, others have high-paying gigs. Some might be invitations to award ceremonies (Go to X theater. Once you arrive a throng of NPCs walk in and you're awarded an awesome looking trophy to put in your house). Some might lead to an NPC who would give you rewards, like a special necklace for dancers that increases mind healing by +20.
Miscellaneous
A system similar to sampling will be put in. At irregular intervals while Skill Animating in a theater or cantina a window will pop up with the following message:
"Someone in the audience seems to be really enjoying your performance. You briefly make eye contact and his/her whole face lights up! What do you want to do?"
Following by the following options:
- [Blank] <----- selected by default
- Perform a special flourish at the person (300 mind)
- Smile at him/her and continue on
While this window is up you can not flourish through text commands, UI buttons, or macros. XP gain is also halted until you make a choice. Notice how there's is a Blank option selected by default. This is so people can not macro the /ui action defaultButton command to close the window.
These windows shouldn't come so frequently that they become annoying but enough to disrupt any future AFKing no matter what.
Also, a special flourish is actually performed, which isn't one of the 1-8 flourishes we currently have.
Doing the speical flourish nets you a large XP bonus, increases your Fame rating, and gives you a satisfying and/or comical reaction from the NPC. The NPC might even give you a tip.
Well... there you have it. My ideas... so far.
