Thread: A Suggestion: Entertainment City Buff Capital of your server

I'm going to get flamed to heck for this, but it's been rolling around in my mind for awhile, so here goes:

I'm not opposed to AFK buffbots (both doctor for my alts when I'm lazy and entertainer) in any way shape or form for one reason: convience. You know where the buffbot will be, and that they will be available when you need them to be, without having to search all over the galaxy for both a master dancer and master musician for my buffing needs. It's a simple fact...this game takes long enough to play as it is.

I also like to read alot of profession forums, including this one, because I care about the state of the game as a whole and I want to see it not only survive, but thrive. The overwhelming story I see reguarding buff bots is basically "/cry A buff bot was in the coronet cantina and he took all the attention away from me and ruined my day!". And I understand that its defidently true. We need to meet in the middle someplace, a place benificial for all parties involved...buffers and buffies.

So heres my idea: Create an intra-server wide entertainers cooperative that creates an entertain city/mecca/etc on each server. Use the entertainment district city specialization to increase your buffs power beyond what a buffbot can give. Work out lose schedules so that players in need of a buff can find one when they need it, easily. Reach out to entertainers from the european servers to help cover odd hours on american servers and vice versa. Get doctors in on it, so players can buff up completely in one place. Offer shops, services, anything you can think of in this city, and give people a reason to use ATK entertainers other than "because they're supposed to".

Feel free to one star me and talk about cookies now. I like the peanut butter and chocolate oreos myself.

I forget which server it was now, but all the entertainer buff bots moved to the hotel in Coronet. This cleaned out the cantina so that real entertainers could do their job and anyone requiring non-interactive buffs can go take care of business in the hotel.

I don't condone buffbots or the use of them, but this seemed like a neat compromise.

Actually we have several mechanisms already in place to assist fellow players who are looking for us. In an effort to reduce the effort and time spent simply randomly wandering into cantinas hoping there's someone there to buff them, people can now use the ent channels, the planetary map, and the search feature. While we may come here to "complain" that doesn't mean you'll also find us simply sitting and crying in our Jawa beer.

We're all for making game mechanics convenient for all involved. We just disagree on how best to do that. I personally have no desire to be tied down to single location. I enjoy moving from cantina to cantina and planet to planet. I meet far more people that way and can pick up far more information which I can then pass along to my fellow rebels.

If youve got a city with 30 entertainers as members...you wouldnt need to be tied down. It seems like the answer to all of it is organization amoungst the profession.

I really don't care about how convient it is to anyone. I just play the game that's in front of me. If the developers decide to remove your ability to bypass the systems they put in place to give social players a mechanic to have a place in the player economy, I'm fine with that. If I have to fly my star fighter or open some kind of a craft shop to earn credits for my house and bobbles, I'm fine with that too. I won't go out of my way to ruin the fun I am having in the game though just to give you a few extra minutes of PvP time or a 2% higher buff.

This might appeal to someone that plays a dancer solely for the ability to heal or enhance though.

Then perhaps I do not understand the point behind the "Entertainment District" boost you are proposing. I thought you were suggesting the creation of a physical locale players looking for a buff could go where they would get a bonus to the mind buff and be assured they could find an entertainer. Was that not what you meant?

We actually do have some level of organization amongst the entertainers - see the ent chat channel for the server and you'll see what I mean. I'm on a fairly small server with a very small entertainer population (I actually laughed at the thought of having 30 entertainers as members of a city ). Despite our small size we still manage to be fairly organized. The major stumbling block to our being able to "compete" is thatnon-entertainers do not make use of the system. It requires a great deal of retraining and thus far we have had very little success. This in turn increases the number of entertainers who choose to become automated vendors because they can't make money otherwise, which in turn reduces our numbers.... This is the main reason we are cautiously optimistic about the coming changes to the macro system. We do not know what changes will be implemented nor when we will see them, but we hope they will enable us to once again fully enjoy our chosen profession.

You didnt miss my point entirely...itd be sorta like being "on duty" in the cantina for a few hours a week. You might be tied down 1 night a week, but otherwise you'd be free to do whatever. Entertainment District is a city specialization like medical or research center, while on duty there you could out buff the bots, stats wise, and provide a good reason for people to come to your city.

And I dont think we have such a thing as the ATK channel on tempest. I think we had it for awhile but there was so much fighting and greifing on it (from both sides) it was stopped.

Shoving live ents off into a corner where you don't have to deal with us "whining" at you is not a solution.

Just like us turning away whining "I need my buffs now because I can't survive without god-mode" combat people isn't a solution either.

Have a nice day.

I thoughtTempest just renamed it... but I'm not on that server so don't take my word for it.

I follow the idea now.. and again if I'm not mistaken something very similar was actually proposed by several people some time ago in a "how to make things better" sort of post.

It's an interesting idea and in some respects I have seen some people attempt to implement such a plan by having entertainer only guilds as well as entertainer "districts" in their cities (although at one point on Shadowfire that disintegrated into something else altogether...). The complaint made at that time was that people wanted to be able to get buffed in the place they were going to go hunting. If they wanted to hunt on Dantooine then they wanted a doc andentertainers at the outpost there. They did not want to have to travel to planet X and then travel to planet Y because their time was limited. That's one of the reasons you can find a vending machine at just about every popular hunting location. It's a tough nut to crack and it's probably the major reason it's been our top issue for such a long time.

Entertainer = Social Profession.

Turning your computer on, startin the game, and doing "/macro activate AFK dance and spam now while I go play pokemon on my GameCube" is nowhere near what was intended for a social profession. Do you go to a bar and just stand there looking at the bartenders, waitresses, and DJs? No, you interact with them since they are in a social profession. Do you stare at a waitress at Joe's Crab Shack and hope she knows what you want? No, you interact with them since they are in a social profession. And did Galoka think that the Ulus were too ugly to save? No, you interac...... never mind. The point is buffbots and AFK entertainers are not being the social profession they chose. I love nothing more than to go into a cantina looking to relax and finding the only one I can talk to is my pet blurgg (great conversationalist he is). I won't even use an AFK entertainer if there is a live one in the cantina. I tip around 5to 10k to a live entertainer while an AFk one getsstared down by my blurgg. I also know who is an ATK buffer and use them exclusively, and tip them well I might add. As for being an ATK entertainer, I got a 10k tip just for saying hello, asking them how they were doing and what was their plans for the night. They were more than happy to see an ATK entertainer and have some social interaction for a short time. Any AFK entertainers get a monster tip for actual social interaction? I think not. I don't rely on tips for my main source of income, but I greatly appreciate every one I get. I try to personally thank everyone who tips me (as long as I see "xxxx tips you xxxx credits" ) and let them know how much I appreciate their patronage and social interaction.

The Entertainment District specialization has no effect on buff strength, only healing speed. (+10 wound healing, I believe) Your project could take place in Coronet, or Theed, or Kor Vella, or the Science Outpost, but the presence of a buffbot anywhere on the server will not facilitate the process.

Well than that needs to be fixed. It should have the same effect as a med center city.

I just think it would be worth trying is all...instead of not doing anything and just hoping the devs will fix it. The CURB is a long ways away, by all accounts
