Greetings fellow Dancers.

I have a few questions Im hoping you pros can answer. I am a Master Dancer, although I know I still have tons to learn.

This morning I was buffing and was suddenly flooded with buff requests, considering the amount of people I needed to buff, I made the decision of grouping with them all and doing a passive buff. While doing this buff, one of my clients was grumbling that it was taking too long. That his buddy, a MD, told him that I should be able to crank out a passive buff in 2 minutes. Is this true? It was my understanding that a passive buff takes about 8 minutes.

when you have multiple clients needing buffs, what is the best way to handle the crowd? Have them take numbers and active buff them one at a time? Gather them in a group and do a passive?

When doing a passive on a group, can I also do an active buff on a client who is not in group? (He was already in a group and didnt want to join mine)

I thought I had a decent handle on buffing untill this morning.... your input is greatly appreciated.

Well, while we could repost most of your answers here, I'm just gonna suggest you read Hard Numbers on Buffs by Tiaga, because he's done such an excellent job there's really no reason for us to try to recreate it..

I believe all your questions are answered in there, along with more info that I think you could put to good use.

What stands out the most is that while people initially thought that grouped/passive buffs took longer than /setp buffs, Tiaga's research found out that's not true and that you can do a 3 minute 10 second buff the same way either grouped or with /setp.

As for preferring grouping.. personally when I'm in a venue with other entertainers I do everything I can to stay grouped with them so the heal exp from my buffing isn't lost into the ether. So I realy don't like to do passive group buffs unless I'm too busy to give everyone timely /setp buffs. If that happens I'll ask for leader and invite people as needed and then kick 'em out when they're done.

Also, I kind of have issues with the passive buffs being.. well, passive, but that's a whole different issue.

When the croud gets to be too much to handle, I just do what the bots do. Group them all, make sure they're all watching, then make one of them leader and /setperform on him/her. Make sure the leaderknows not to/stopwatch until after all the other players in the group have. Once the last of them has stopped watching, leave the group and get back to business as usual.

"...his buddy, a MD, told him that I should be able to crank out a passive buff in 2 minutes. Is this true?"

Yes and no.Your clients have to watch you for a minimum of 2 minutes for the buff to work at all. In orderto geta full buff (2 hours) they need to watch you for 3 minutes 20 seconds (assuming you are flourishing every 2 seconds or less). His buddy should stick to being a Doc.

"It was my understanding that a passive buff takes about 8 minutes."

If you are flourishing every 2 seconds it only take 3 min. 20 seconds to apply either an active or passive buff.

"when you have multiple clients needing buffs, what is the best way to handle the crowd? Have them take numbers and active buff them one at a time? Gather them in a group and do a passive?"

Do whatever you are comfortable with. One thing to keep in mind when doing passive group buffs is to tell the clients up front that they need to keep track of the time.

A link to Tiaga's guide on buffing can be found in the "Everything Dancer - Guides and More 2005" thread (it's stickied at the top of the Dancer forums). That will also help to answer some of your questions.

Not necessary. Passive buffs don't require a /setperform on the leader of the group. You can remain group leader and simply time the buff, letting them know when to stop watching

Passive buffs are supposed to take longer, but in reality they don't. And as Schardour said, you don't need to /setperform on anyone for group buffs. In fact, you can be buffing a group and using /setperform on someone else to get 20 people at once.

When I am cranking out buffs, I usually keep group leader so I can invite people to the group as they come. Instead of timing everyone at once, I use my buff timer alias as people join and it handles sending people a /tell when their buff is done. So I can keep people coming in and out of my group in a steady stream.
