Yes, true. Players are getting novice entertainer and coming to my cantina to dance for their buff and for their friends. With novice entertainer, they don't need to go hunt out a master dancer or musician anymore. Sad but true.

It's no big deal, in my eyes. It's like picking up Novice Medic for some rudimentary healing skills. (Well, like it once was.) This supposedly is not our final endgame skill, so I don't mind Novices having the ability to buff their guildmates.

Plus, the more hotties in fleshwraps, the better.

In all honesty this is exactly how Deli'ah became a full time dancer.

Long ago in galaxy far away when the game was young, we would spend time hunting and exploring and learning things (as a group) and to close the evening we would all pop in to the closest cantina to heal and basically unwind.

If no entertainer was present, one of us or at times all of us,would run out and grab Ent Novice from the Ent. Trainer NPC-lady. Then we would spend time goofing around long past the time our BF was healed.

More often then not it was me who would run out to train and then next day drop the skill and then next time train again over and over, till I got to meet some of the nice entertainers of that timeand we became friends and next thing you know I was not dropping the ent skill anymore but the other skills to make room for more and more dancing

I still have my very first outfit given to me by one of the first Master Dancers I have ever seen. The day Itold herin the cantina that this time I will not be dropping the skill, shesaid something like "in that case you need to start dressing as a dancer... " and gave me one of her outfits.

So, no I don't see this as a problem, because who knows.. maybe someone else will become "trapped" too.

It doesn't really bother me... it's a symptom of the problem, rather than the problem.

Why do I say that? Well think about it. Let's go back to first principles, and let's work backward, starting with the symptom and deducing the cause:

Symptom: Combatant types are picking up novice entertainer and self healing.
Cause: They need BF healed and want inspirations, and there's no other way to get them..

This cause, however, is not the ultimate cause, but itself is a symptom, for instance --

Symptom: BF healing and isnpiration buffs are not readily available.
Cause: There are almost no entertainers in the cantinas to provide them.

But this "cause" is itself just a symptom of yet another problem, which is --

Symptom: There are no entertainers in the cantina to provide heals/buffs.
Cause: The entertainer game has been allowed to fester for so long that all the real entertainers have left the game.

Here then is the root cause of the whole thing: The AFK Macroing, the lack of content, the broken systems, the various other problems that entertainers have had to deal with for 2 years now, have chased 90+% of us out of the game, and THAT leads, by cause-and-effect, to people picking up novice entertainer for the utility of it.

I'd like to say, "If the devs fixed the entertainer professions this would sort itself out" but I'm not sure I believe that anymore. Playing and enjoying entertainer is done by those with a certain personality type -- you can see it by reading this forum vs. reading say a combat prof forum. The personality types are different. Even someone who "also" does combat, if they enjoy dancer or musician or ID enough to do it full time and love it (rather than as an income or force XP source, i.e. a means to an end), they have a different mind set than someone who has no interest in these professions. The vast majority of people who had that mind-set have left the game. A few stubborn people like us, have remained, but the # of true dancers and musicians on my server is tiny -- I'd guess maybe 20 or 30 total. It's not enough to serve the entire population. And the rest of the population is not made up of people who are likely to enjoy the professions as an end in and of themselves rather than a means to some other end. In short, most of the "entertainer-minded" people are gone. It is unlikely that the CU, or an EU (entertainer upgrade) or any other U the devs put in, is going to bring them back.

So my guess is that, because the lack of entertainer content/fixes drove most entertainers away, and because they are likely to stay away for good, the "novice entertainer" thing is going to become very common. And I can't say I blame the people doing it.

I got novice Ent for fun too. After a hard day's hunting we ended up at Tyrena cantina, no ents around so we went and got novice. I then got Ent xx1x for basic2 and hung onto it for months. Then after the end of a romance I needed a new direction and decided to take up dancing as more than a fun thing.

I'm glad I did as it ended up with me meeting my (IG) husband, founding a guild and having the time of my life. As well as getting to know some of the legends on Chim and making some good friends.

One of my best friends took novice ent ages ago on his rifleman so he could heal his jedi's BF when I wasn't around. He loves to go to parties and dance with me and it never effected our almost-nightly ritual of getting together to chat while I heal him.

I don't have any problem with players picking up novice entertainer rather than seeking out a Master level entertainer. It's what we did in the early infancy of many of our galaxies and it's what I often told people they should do rather than create a robot alt. Some will find they enjoy taking a break from the repetitive shoot 'em up and join our ranks on a more lasting level. Others will gain a new appreciation for those of us who chose to become entertainers and make a point to include us on their friends listing along with the all the other professions. The inspiration buff is not the end of our abilities. We're just in a bit of limbo at the moment and have to wait it out. Until that time the more people who find entertainers a necessary profession the better off we are.

I love the idea of more people picking up some entertainer! Learning how to dance never hurt anyone

And it's especially wonderfulto seenew novice entertainers right off the hop being useful and productive. The wall between Master Dancers and all other dancers has been broken down!

I think most masters will either stay masters because they love it or be relieved to be able do to something else and still keep some usefulness witha bitof the dancer line.

...and if there's lots of master dancers we'll all party with the high level dances

...and if there's fewer master dancers, thenwe can feel unique and special with having a rare ability
