Im not l337 by far, i despite PvP and i cant do anything without a group even though im level 80 on my two chars, but what is wrong with AFK dancing?

I play on Bria and Eclipse btw.

I recently have gotten a utlity account, so i could provide my own doctor/dancer services to my chars since i cant be bothered with cantinas no one ever talks to me while im there EVER and im a launch player besides that Cantina's are extremely laggy especially in theed and dant MO.

I parked my entertainer toon on eclipse in theed, also in the dant MO occasionally with a macro and go afk, I figure everyone does that since no one has ever talked to me and just spam the same things, I specifically say i dont want credits, i just want xp, I dont feel i should be paid for grinding, its incredibly boring sitting in a cantina dancing, no one to talk to, just pressing flourish buttons etc. Yet a friend told me that True Dancers hate afk dancers, and im trying to figure out why? The only "True" dancers i ever see are in player city cantinas, i can go into normal public ones and never get message about a cover charge.

So basically im asking how does grinding dancer afk hurt the profession? How is it fun? Moreover how is it wrong if after i attain Master, i use her simply to provide buffs to my main char and friends?

- I support NO DECAY.It should be run like EQ . No 20k price cap on the bazar and everyone can craft. Its has worked for 7 years on everquest and there is no decay plenty of money and no crazy prices.

Decay is only good for crafteres and bad for everyone else.

There's a sticky all about this in the forum.

In a nutshell, I think most folks feel that AFK'ing isn't playing your character, because you're....not actually playing your character.

As a macro running AFK'er, you're taking that spot and those customers from people who run into the cantina, who are live, see you parked there, and leave.

If you find the profession so tedious that you have to make the game play itself to level up, I think choosing a different profession is your best option.

Also, you mention that no one's ever talked to you - and people just spam messages. That's because these are the very same people doing what you're doing - AFK'ing. As you can see, standing live amongst AFK'ers isn't fun at all - yet you contribute to the atmosphere. This AFK atmosphere is exactly why you find live Ents in player cantinas, as most have abandoned the spam and macro-laden NPC cantinas. Consider finding others who play live to have fun with, or if you're set on macro'ing, think about doing something in the game that you'll actually play, not macro.

As far as using your character to help your other characters, it's a common thing and I have no problem with folks who have support characters. I do have a problem with folks who set up their support characters with a 24 hour macro to provide their support character to everyone else - that's robbing people who are actually playing the game from their role in the community.

By far the biggest issue with AFK dancing is simply that it adds to the perception that "everyone does it". This perception then leads to non-entertainers like yourself valuing our services so little that you create a "support character" to replace us. It also leads to lots of people treating our toons and therefore us rudely because they assume we aren't there.

It all adds up to a very unpleasant situation for the people who do play this style for fun and damages our game.

I can't add anything to this calm response that wouldn't get me banned. This is a great response.

I think these three points you make highlight exactly why AFK "Entertaining" is bad.

All of these are symptomatic of AFK play.

Just as a minor side point, I don't know any live dancers on starsider that are using the cover charge ability.

Same on Gorath...except for the AFKers working out of Dant Mining Outpost.

You know... and I know this is going to sound bad, but if I was a CL 80 combatant and I managed to get a second account/Alt....

I would NOT waist my money on an Ent bot..

I would make an aft that is usefull to myself, and my guild.,say... Doctor/WS or Doctor/AS, or a pure crafter.

Its REALLY not as had to find a live ent as people make it out to be.

There are Ent chat channels, and the Planet map can tell you where an entertainer is (Look for the "Sun" under Entertainers Cantinas
