Thread: There's nothing wrong with dancers asking for tips!

Asking for tips is part of the business. Deal with it!
Imanage a cantina which doesn't allow entertainers to 'bug' customers for tips. It doesn't allow macro afk entertainers and request you either roleplay or respect the right of those who frequent the place to roleplay without interruption.
I did this so I don't have to "deal with it!"
/eject, personal initative and a mutual respect between performers and customers has increased the enjoyment and right of all and in turn...lo' and behold, increased tips because most people there are enjoying themselves.
Now if the devs would allow me to flag a house as a cantina and not merely a residence and also give me the ablitiy as a merchant with advertising 4 to place said cantina on the world map flagged as 'occupied' that'd be a few more steps in the right direction.

Can't the dancers do this themselves? I thought one of the last few patches gave us the ability to flag an area we are in as "entertainer present." Not sure since I have not used it myself, but I think this is already in the game.

It's only available in public hotels and cantinas that already appear on the world map.
If the location you are in doesn't have a reference on the world map (Cantina at Outpost Zephyr on Rori for example) then you can't flag it as /registered. It'd be nice if merchants could have the option of running a cantina and have that building placed on the world map.
When I first started I was poor, had no idea how to make money, but I knew I wanted to buy a few pretty new outfits, and the 2k you start with is nowhere near enough. So naturally I started by every so often asking for tips, and it did get some response. As I played more I realized an even better way of asking for tips, without begging or even mentioning them, thanking people for them.
This lets the person tipping you know that you actually noticed it, and reminds any of the people that might be standing around not tipping, that we infact can use the money, and does so in a way that they can't take offense to.
That said, I can tell you that I've spent an evening in a cantina dancing beside another dancer who periodically (and politely) reminded people to tip. I never, ever mention tips out loud except to say thanks (though I don't say what I'm thanking people for if it's money). I never talk about money except in /tells if I can help it, but that's my own personal play style. This other dancer was of a comparable level to me (both novice dancers) and comparable attractiveness (not a fat mon calamari or anything weird) and we were both making an effort to greet and engage in conversation with cantina patrons. Before I logged off I asked everyone in the band how much they'd made in tips (because as a twi'lek dancer I tend to get the lion's share of the tips and like to spread some of the wealth among the musicians who are working just as hard as me are often ignored when it comes to tips). I can tell you that the other dancer made only about half of what I did. Take it for what it's worth.
