So far, all I have seen is disturing.

Just to pitch my 5 credits in, let me get this straight.

When I am master dancer / master musician, I have invested 28 skillpoints in a skill, which would be just as easy toapply by a novice entertainer.

Plus it does not use the setperform command so anyone can walk up to me, start watching me, go take a bath or walk the dog or take out the trashor whateverthey do when they 'have' to 'get involved' with us, yucky entertainers, then half an hour later take off without a word a happy customer.. maybe tipping 1-5 credits to rub it in..

28 skillpoints for no gain whatsoever in 'basic skill' functionality increase.. the TKM's would have your bollocks on a stake if you proposed a novice brawler should be as good at killing stuff as a TKM.. offcourse, we are only hippy entertainers, not worth serious consideration?

groups get culled down to 8 persons, so people will more and more try to cram up the entry to the cantinas!

after all, if coro has , say, 18 people there, and only 8 can be grouped at a time, only eight can benefit from someone who needs some loving care (BF or whatever replacement gets dreamed up). This will only promote envy and infighting.. provided the 'entertainers' are ATK enough to care!

AFK 'gameplay' does not get 'seen to' as wàs promised, the rewarding of ATK gameplay lies first and foremost in the fun of the enviroment.

AFK 'gamers' are murder on this. Have you ever tried being groupleader in spatial, looking for people who want to join? Chances are you go crazy and give it up within 30 minutes because of all the 'If I am not in a group, please invite me! Auto-invite is on!' , and that is not even mentioning the rest of the garbage.

Allowing this to go on is imho only geared to not wanting to lose the paying customers (now only to get them playing)

Meanwhile, the réal entertainers get either fed up with it and pack their bags, or be a part of a very small (but thankfully very fun) minority on whichever server you go on!

I have more problems with this Combat Downgrade but these where the first that popped to mind

A) They don't think they can win. To keep the true social nature of Ent and performance flowing, any guards they tried to put in would be easily by passed with 3rd party macro tools. They try to avoid encouraging 3rd party software at all costs because it opens up the game to many areas of exploitation and is basically a CS nightmare.

But.. my problem is most of the people who set out to bot already use 3rd party programs, either as a double backup to stay connected, or as a program to reconnect and restart if they get disconnected. You just can't tell the difference now until they 'fess up to it.

If the devs think people don't use 3rd party macros prolifically now, they're blind. That's why it's such a joke. 3rd party ent bots, doc bots, crafters, lots and lots of FS craft grinders.. and as it's been accepted for ent, it became accepted for doc, crafting and combat.. pretty soon it will be accepted for every aspect of the game to use a 3rd party program but just pretend like you're using the in game system.

/agree. That's something I've been trying to express for a long time now, and I'm only finally being able to express it properly. People are going to always use third party programs no matter what. And, there seems to be a double standard where some professions can do it with a macro, and others can't. But, the ones that can't, still can do things afk with a third party macro. And, I think for the most part, the devs use the ingame macro system as an easy way out to avoid doing any policing of afk activity, ingame or 3rd party.

But, the whole "if you do this, people will start using 3rd party programs!!!!!111!!1" mentality, to me...I just give a big, SO WHAT? People are doing it anyway. People who are the type to use 3rd party programs are also the type who will try to find any way to beat the system, such as with credit duping. These people can't be stopped. And, it's ridiculous to think they can or to turn a blind eye just because the ingame macro system allows it.

And, as Doriana so eloquently says, I would much rather have a minority of cheaters getting advantages with 3rd party programs, than the entire freaking game set up so that the minority feels they can't compete because they *don't* go afk. It's a ridiculous mentality, and I have no freaking clue why the original devs of this game thought it would be a good idea.

At any rate, ya know, I keep saying, this is the best game out, I'm not leaving any time soon, I'm hooked. BUT, I can tell you one thing. Whenever I do finally leave SWG, whether that's tomorrow or 10 years from now, I'm gonna do my research, and I will NEVER EVER EVER buy and play a game that has such a robust macro system and AFK is condoned. I don't care what it is...Star Trek, Middle Earth Online, Dungeons and Dragons, or if my very favorite cult TV show Buffy, the Vampire Slayer got an MMORPG. And, ask Fuschia and others that know me. I can't even describe to you how much of a Buffy geek I am. But, even so, I would NOT buy that game if it had a condoned AFK macro system like SWG does. All the bugs, all the annoyances...they are nothing. This game is really great. Their one fatal flaw is AFK, and I have no doubt in my mind that I would rarely get angry or complain if this freaking AFK didn't exist.

I am preparing, as we speak, a comprehensive redesign and revamp proposal that I think may, may mind you, be something the developers, ourselves, and our patrons will adore. Regardless of why we are in these professions.

It's big, yet preserves much of our classic features.

It gives us a really active game.

Its very entertainer.

It is challenging.

Financially rewarding.

Cost effective for our patrons.

Creates immersiveness and a true SWG feel.

Turns unattendees into second rate mechanics distributors in nasty buffshacks.

Puts us in control of our own finances.

Creates goals and rewards for us.

Gives us interplanetary fame. Real fame.

Maintains transparency.

Gives us new costumes and insturments.

Distributes entertainers evenly.

And may even involve us in the GCW to a greater extent than now.

It will require new art, but nothing overly extensive. It will require a new philosophy, and a philosophy more consistant with how professional entertainers really work. And it will require a new way of looking at entertainers and entertainment in general, but preserves our current functional mechanics and our interdependency, while increasing our financial viability, and our respectability.

I don't "blue sky" often, but when I dream, I dream big.

And I am very excited to be able to share it with you soon.
