Dumb = getting your jollies on a pixellated avatar in a video game.

Dumb = posting to a public forum with a request for more "jiggleage" and expecting the average family oriented person not to find it offensive.

Dumb = hiding behind the "lighten up" defense to excuse galactically stupid comments.

Dumb = hiding behind the equally apathetic "I don't know why people get so uptight" defense. If you don't have a clue, you don't belong in public. You are the idiot that watches a drunk girl strip herself bare at a party and follows it up with "BRING IT ON BABY!" only to find out that the girl was gang raped 3 hours later due to responsible parties such as yourself encouraging moronic behavior. People as a rule ARE stupid. People as a rule follow the leader. Dare to be different... use a brain cell or two.

Dumbest of all? That the SOE forums has again had the bar not only lowered, but dropped on the floor. You want tolerance? Tolerance is earned. Don't come out here, lower your I.Q. by 50 points (and ours by proxy... I feel dumber just for reading this thread) and whine about tolerance and "Hey, it's a free country!" Guess what? You are entitled to youropinion as I am entitled to mine. This post isn't stupidbecause you mouth off about getting peopleoff with your digital toes looking as sexyas they can. It's because you make publicly degrading remarks towards women, you cast a bad light on those of us that have a Dancer as a character, and you hold yourself up as a model of blissful ignorance.

With respect to chat filters? Eclipse - Theed Cantina... While the average person with brain one in their skull could think of the chat filter option, I fail to see how it affects statements such as my favorite one which I heard only 2 days ago... "Get down on your knees @%#^$ andsuck my 12 inch kielbasa!" This was said to a dancer who was in the game for approximately 10 minutes, has never played an MMORPG in her life, and summarily quit because she herself, at the ripe old age of 14, didn't feel comfortable with the content. I'm really glad if you haven't run into this. However the "Well, I've never seen it before, therefore it must not exist" policy ran out a long time ago... like somewhere in the early 20th century.

Finally, AFK macroers? I have my character AFK macroing in there right now. Why? Because I can't stomach the catty, wanna-be, self righteous, moronic, snotty, slutty, dipsticks that inhabit some of the larger establishments. Just give me my dance xp, and I will happily move along. You don't want me AFK? Don't allow other people to make disparaging remarks about dancers, entertainers, or HEY! Here's a novel idea... people in general, and maybe, just maybe, it would be worth my time and effort to try and get to know a few of you.As it stands, while the ratio may be 95% of people are stupid, I can see the ratio for "Board Tool" is slightly higher. So, can someone please lock this thread and start some intelligent discussion? Could we raise it a little above the "hooter" level?

/endrant

P.S.

Flame away... you can't really stoop much lower than the Beavis and Butthead "She said HOOTERS... huh huh huh... huh huh huh..." and even if you can... who gives a @%#$^.

!*&# you and the horse you rode in on.

But best of all, take your chat filter, shove it up your $*#, and be glad its not a pineapple.

Hmmm... I wish I would have thought of that chat filter idea... SO groovy...

Hmm this thread wouldn't have elicited comment from me except for all the controversy it's stirring up

I think it's interesting that this was posted in the dancer forum. Interesting being a code-word for "disappointing but not surprising." I do think the dancer profession, in specific and far more than any other swg profession (including other entertainers), is sexualized to the detriment of many serious players and most especially to the detriment of the real-life,generallysocially well-adjusted women that I feel the entertainer professions were designed with an eye toward.

Obviously this original post isn't to be taken seriously (even if it was meant seriously). But it's still disappointing to see further proof of how people view the dancer profession as sexualized. That said: it doesn't mean that the "physiological correctness" of our character avatars is an entirely off-limits subject. Nor is it an entirely sexual subject.

I think that there are, in fact, a number of flaws with the avatars in the game - both male and female. But I'll focus on the female, because otherwise I'll have too much to type and most of my pet peeves are with my own avatar Really... the fact that the avatars aren't that well-crafted has an immersion-breaking effect for me. The look and movement of my own avatar is something I'm constantly experiencing in the game since I play in 3rd person mode. So it takes a pretty big "suspension of disbelief" to immerse myself in the game worldwhen there are inaccuracies with my avatar since she is my "presence" there.

The biggest problem in my opinion is that I think a number of the male animations (if not all of the male animations) were mapped on to the female avatars when women mostly don't move in the same ways as men. The running animation is a perfect example - I look at my avatar's arms and legs flailingas she runs, and it drives me nuts. To seg to the "jiggle factor" that started this post - ifgirls actually ran like that in real life, we'd be bouncing all around almost no matter whatwe werewearing

But the realy problem to me isn't thatmy avatardoesn't bounce, it's that my avatar shouldn't be running with the exact same animation as a male avatar. And really, neither should be running with that animation except in burstrun. It just looks "panicked" in my opinion. When you aren't in a panic, you're gonna be doing more of a marathon-jog kinda run.

Another thing that the original poster mentioned wasthe avatar'sbare feet. They are pretty ugly and look rather blocky and, well... manly. If you take alook at your hands, it's the same. That was something I noticed immediately when I created my first character - I was like "wow, look at those manly hands!" And if you tune your muscularity and weight so that you don't look like a Calvin Klein underfed waif, err I mean model, and actuallyput some substance to your body other than your chest... you end up with a weight-lifter's shoulders. Oh, and as someone else mentioned here... no matter how I play with those sliders at creation... I have no hips.

The end result was that I felt like my avatar came out of creation looking less like a woman and more like a teenage boy who was not quite halfway through puberty: with no hips, wide shoulders, big hands and feet... and boobs. And a ponytail. Until I had my hair done in an image-design-only style, all I'd haveneeded was a Metallica T-shirt and a tight bra, and most people wouldn't have been able to tell my avatarapart from the average 16-year-old boy.

Does that mean our female avatars should have as much "back" as a rap video dancer? Obviously no. But I do think that female avatars should in fact lookfeminine and move in feminine ways. And I don't think it's going to corrupt the morals of minors if our avatars are reasonablepictures of what people look like.

I don't think it'd corrupt the morals of minors if the avatars "bounced" in anatomically correct ways, either... give teenagers, including if not especially your own, at least some credit for not always being drooling idiots. You aren't protecting them from anything they haven't been seeing for their entire lives - only the blind have never seen a woman's chest bounce by age 6, let alone 13. The real argument to make against the idea is that it wouldn't add anything to the game, and would serve to blatantly sexualize the avatars in negative ways and contribute mightily to a player society that tends to view women as eye candy.

Guys,

This thread isn't really appropriate for the forums. The content on the boards is supposed to be family friendly. Also, this thread pretty much turned into flaming, quite a bit of which was edited or removed.

I'm not going to get into my personal feeling on this subject but I am locking it since it doesn't belong on our boards.

I don't think this is a case of "lightening up." Since I began playing this game at the end of last June, I have sat in Theed Cantina (on the Eclipse server) and watched people cyber, flirt like their lives depended upon it, talk dirty (as in wannabe porn star talking)... I have to agree with Cerr on this. If you get your jollies off of a game, then there is something terribly wrong with your life.

I am not one of those easily offended people. IRL I swear like a sailor and analyze all literature/movies/TV to have some sexual connotation to it. I think people only really shower because they need to find a mate. I am not joking on that. Sex is the motivation in just about everything humans do in my humble opinion. HOWEVER, with that said, there are times and places where sexuality is cool. In your bedroom, when you are alone with someone, go to town, I COULD CARE LESS. But if I have to sit in a cantina in a game that has a teen rating and watch simulated oral sex or lap dances, I don't want to see it. A public forum (such as spatial chat) is not the place where I want to see that. I don't care what people do behind closed doors... JUST DON'T DO IT IN FRONT OF ME. Simple as that. And this is not just a philosophy I hold for the game, but my real life.

As for cleavage in this game... there are free pictures of boobs all over the net. There are also free porn movies on peer 2 peer applications. Get some ingenuity and use those to get your fill. And don't group all dancers to be the same thing. Yeah, there are lady dancers (mostly who are men irl) who act out sexual things in cantinas, but most don't. And most dancers don't want to feel like cheap $.20 hookers at the end of the day.Perhaps SOE should make a job line for prostitutes. Then those dancers who want to bounce, jiggle, and act like whores can be happy and leave all of us with some self respect alone.

And finally, to whomever thinks I stereotyped "pretty people" as dumb, I wasn't doing that at all. Honestly, 95% are dumb... doesn't matter what they look like. I was just pointing out that while it is impressive to talk to a beautiful person, if they have nothing behind their face, it is uninteresting to talk to them. So go and reread what I said please. I find it funny that people respond to only HALF of a message, chosing to ignore what goes against what they want to say.

Okay.. I probably shouldn't even be posting on a thread like this and usually don't,however I wanted to add one thing about the "junk" or lack there of. Maybe its just me but when I look around I seebreastson the women that wouldmake a watermelonfarmer jealousbut the men are completely lacking "junk" of any kind. Maybe the programmers are homophobic too and couldn't bring themselves to put at least a tiny bulge down there? (sorry devs, ya know I love ya) I guess they prefer the guys to walk around looking like convictedsexual offendersin South Africa. Just annoys me how games seem do that, at least AO put something there.

The equpiment is still there wether they jiggle or not and I don't think adding some bounce is going to cause a mass rush of hormone induced histeria.

I have to go now, I feel the need to talk about medical supplies

Maybe you should take your own advice. Oh and just because someone wants to bounce or jiggle it doesn't make them a hooker or a whore otherwise 90% of the women alive would be considered such(allowing 10% for flat chested people)
