Tailorsuse needles, they should be able to stab people with them, and make nets to catch people.

Melee combat is somewhat like dancing, Brawlers should be able to get basic dancing skills, maybe giving TKA more advanced skills.

Weaponsmiths know the weapons they make very well, they should have certifications to be able to use any weapon they make.

Smugglers should be able to use their laser knife in combat.

How do those suggestions sound? Pretty silly to me. It's about the same as a dancer or musician getting combat ability. Every class has their place, and levels of value to each type of personality. No profession will ever cater to all types of personalities, and that is fine. You can dance and tame wild animals. You can make someone look pretty, then rearrange their face with your fist when they don't pay. You can make music and houses.

(Incedentally, tailors aren't pure eye candy, and I don't just mean backpacks. If you look at the game from a pure mechanics eye, they also make the recepticle for skill tapes and BE tissues.)

Inside my heart is breaking, my make-up may be flaking
But my smile still stays on
My soul is painted like the wings of butterflies
Fairytales of yesterday will grow but never die
I can fly - my friends

I really don't see my posts as hostile tho, with the exception of "maybe" that one but that wasn't even to you, hehe. Perhaps your being a little to sensitive? I'm trying to be as helpful as I can be here and I really don't want to scare you off. Believe it or not we happen to share a similar opinion on this topic, I may be a little to blunt tho when it comes to telling people the reality of the situation. I'll try to be more careful about how I phrase things. People that have been on these boards a long time will tell you in general I'm a really tolerant and patient person.. unless you really tick me off that is.. which you haven't so don't worry.

Meaning no disrespect, but I did detect a bit of testiness in the posts, Ravenmist. I wasn't going to say anything, but I can see why Sirgleno took umbrage. Your posts weren't directed at me, and I cringed a little.

Not that I'm criticizing your work here, because it is good stuff. I just can't fully disagree with Sirgleno here. I don't mean to start any trouble.

Love Star Wars, but the few role-players I could find on the servers were outnumbered by powergamers who wanted only l337 l00t and mad skillz. I can't justify paying $15 a month to play a game by myself.
Still cares enough to interject an opinion, though.

Well, I believe that this thread is starting to wind down, and I would like to thank everyone who contributed. I will continue to frequent the dancing boards into the forseeable future, heck, Im almost a master and there are many issues that we all agree on (well most of us anyways) such as mind buffing yourselves, and that dancers really are the coolest profession in the game. When this topic comes up again, and it will I promise, I will attempt to come up with some suggestions on abilities that make sense for the dancer that do not apply in battle, although it may prove difficult.

Peace, Love, & Acid,

I have not read all the way through this yet...

I agree with most of the arguments against these, but not all.

Having an entertainer able to heal in the field is not unheard of, if it is only in camps. Military troops have entertainers come to help relieve tension, but that does not make that entertainer a 'bard.' Yes, having them add bonuses beyond the mind buff would be silly for an 'entertainer' not 'bard' profession. A storm trooper wouldn't get distracted.

However, the healing of BF and mindwounds (in camp or not) does not seem a stretch to me. The black rot on the mind bar- as I have seen it, is NOT a true physical wound. TRUE, it is achieved by headshot but it seems to me the effects are not physical (Physical is red...)

Point- I was in a very harsh car accident on a icy mountain road where a truck lost control and literally destroyed my car. I survived by no more than 2 inches and some pretty good maneuvering and control of my vehical on ice (13 years does that to you.) The airbag gives a pretty good punch and for two days my muscles were so darned sore that I had a hard time moving around even in bed. Those were the physical wounds caused by the "Head Shot". Those healed. And heck, a doctor proscribed a mild relaxant to help me out. The physical went away.

However, I still have those images of that blue truck losing control... I still hear the sound of my car being obliterated and that airbag slamming into my face. I still remember not being able to open the doors and trying to get out through the window and make sure my 2 passengers and the other driver were okay in 20 degree weather. I still relive that second. That is the "Mind wound" caused by the head shot.

Military troops go out to fight a war and they have to see many horrible things that I don't want to think about. The photos from the civil war is enough. Many from WW2 and Vietnam have a hard time recovering. However, the government was sure to allow times of Rest and Relaxtion for their troops to ease the suffering of their mind. Only a doctor can heal this man's lost leg.... but a good comedian (And... therapist >.> ) can help the mind relax long enough to forget those "mind wounds" for a time.

So Entertainers jobs make sense to me. In Real life, the mind wound doesn't just 'go away' with a dancer. But the point of a game with no permadeath is to allow someone to continue playing their game infinitely. So Having these wounds compound would destroy a character ^-^ So you have to pull away from the 'Real World' a little bit... especially in a Fansasy one.

My 2 cents ^-^ I'd allow healing BF in the field in a certain level of camp only. Though because of the need to have people come to cantinas, I'd say no ^-^ Let 'em trek back to us! ha! >.> I frankly get killed while out on the field and it annoys me. ::Snickers:: And I like talking, not shooting. ...well, shooting is fun... Okay, I like shooting, just not dying! Death=bad ... the opposite of good.

Well we do heal mind wounds out in the field so in a way we already have that relaxing part of things in the field for other people. As far as BF goes thats not really a "bardish" issue at all, its a totally seperate one which is the Devs trying to force/focus people on the games cities and provide a gathering point which is what BF/Entertainers are used for right now. They may change thier mind on that someday but right now its the way they want it to stay.

Well,
This thread has been sleeping for quite a while (and no doubt quite a lot of professions for many of us), and with the opening for the Dancer Corrospondant (which I will certainly not be vying for) I thought I would say hello through the resurection of my ancient thread on the enhancement of the Dancing Profession. I request that any serious contender for the Dancer Corrospondant position read through this thread and comment.

Things for Dancer? Every profession can craft their own tools of their trade, where are our tools?

We could toss out glitter dust that maybe transforms into a holo effect? That maybe, if it was directed at someone, allows them to heal BF and mind wounds faster?

Someone already said this one, Let us create prop masks?

Craft holo projectors that can be dropped anywhere and produces a stage set then burn out?

Craft props to dance with that are NOT weapons?

Craft costume jewelry (stuff that can be equipped once and maybe lasts an hour or two.... *sigh* it would have to be noted in the examine window that it was prop jewelry because of some deceitful person(s) )?

Maybe more glitzy make-up that has limited use like the costume jewelry? ( crafted by Image Designers rather musicians and dancers? )

I know we aren't supposed to bump necros and I know you are frustrated with your game problems right now (sorry for that Castaspella), but wow, what a timely subject. Some of the responses are down right creepy in their wishes considering what the Devs have stated they now wish to do with us.
