When i came upon the cantina. I figured id take a peek inside see if anyone or anything was going on in there. Low and behold , there was someone in there. One musician/dancer was up on the stage, preforming her heart out for who? One customer.Thats right, One patron was in the cantina at the time while the preformer played every instrument and every song that i think was available to the game. Me and my friend complemented her for her preformance and watched and listened for a few songs before we had to be on our way . Thats someone who deserves one Sizeable tip for doing what she loves ; Especially at 2am in the morning. She said she plays there most every night. So from now on, i will be stopping by that cantina as often as i can.One thing i dont understand about these AFK buff bots....Why would someone pay 30 bucks for this game....15 bucks EACH month to play it online...ToNOT play the game. By god if im gonna pay for sumthing, im gonna be right there with it getting my moneys worth from it.
Thank you so much for the wonderful posts, especially this one. It really made me feel better after a long day of fighting guildmates about buffbots (four fights today, more tomorrow, I'm sure). I'm glad that there are still people in this game that appreciate the effort and selflessness put forth by the live entertainer community.
I also agree 110% about the last paragraph in your post. I also don't quite understand why someone would spend 15 real dollars to save a few credits of fake money in a game, but such is gaming.
While I don't have a character on your server, I'm tempted to create one just to perform with that one entertainer that you encountered. It gets lonely sometimes performing by yourself for nobody (I've done it...I think we all have), but when one person like yourself walks in, it makes it all worthwhile.
Thank you so much for your kind words and actions...and I feel more hopeful having seen this post.

It's posts like these that remind of the potential that the entertainer professions have. I don't like it when people proclaim the experiment a failure, because it really isn't. It's really obvious to me that there is a huge market of people that not only want to play a social profession, but enjoy others when they play a social profession. There is no failure in concept here. The only failure is in implementation. Just like one has to have special consideration for what makes a combat player "tick" and make appropriate development decisions, one must also have special consideration for what makes the social, in our case entertainer, player tick. And, of course, decisions must be made within these professions to preserve this style of gameplay. For example, these are professions that should obviously not be made afk'able, because by doing so, you are completely disregarding what makes us tick, and discouraging people from joining these professions. And, ultimately, this means less money in SOE's hands because the people that truly enjoy this type of gameplay are driven out because they are treated just like the power gaming and combat professions. It's a completely different set of rules that must be adhered to. And, if those rules are adhered to, these professions will never be a failure.
SWG has a lot going for it, IMO. Not the least of which is the attempt to cater to all styles of gameplay. These styles must be catered to within these styles, if that makes any sense. Otherwise, they just won't work. Make them work, and you will see a lot more satisfaction and player retention. And, the only way to make them work is to "cater" to what the people who play these professions actually want. I think the devs try, I really do. I chalk a lot of the supposed "failure" to the fact that this is new, and this is an experiment of sorts. They are still learning, and I grant them a lot of leeway for the mere fact that they made these professions in the first place. Chances are, many of us entertainers would not even be here if we didn't have this option. That, in itself, should say something. And, that should also make them stand up and take notice that we are viable, and that we are helping the game to survive. I think we also have a lot of patience. We tend to be able to deal with stuff a lot better because we're more concerned with the social gameplay and don't get upset when we're not "uber." It's a population that needs to be cultivated and expanded, IMO.
Anyway, I just want to add a thank you to the original poster, just like everyone else. Not only do posts like this make us feel good when we're down about the state of things, but it also adds another voice that says, "preserve this gameplay and make it work."
