Thread: Credit Scandal: Couldn't have happened at a worse time to a more vulnerable profession.

Unfortunately it appears that innocent people are being hurt - not by the dupers themselves, but by the careless actions of the CSRs who are banning people, in spite of SOE's assurances that it wouldn't happen.

I hope the guys from Stratics, Gamespy, etc. are paying attention today, since all threads discussing this travesty on most server boards are being deleted.

Assuming I haven't been banned since last night, I'll continue to enjoy the game and performas usual. Given the fact that it appears everybody's who's had contact with the duped credits has been banned, I have very little fear of recieving any as a tip. I'm not going to let the actions of a few griefers ruin my gaming experience. On the off chance that I already have or will recieve some duped credits as tips, I understand that my account may be suspended while the matter is investigated, but I have faith that should that happen, things will be set straight once the investigation is complete.

See, but to me, that is unacceptable. This hasn't happened to me as far as I know. I will login tonight and see. But, should there be an occasion where I'm banned when I've done nothing wrong, and then I'm unbanned but receive no compensation for SOE's mistake--which is what's going to happen to the innocents if they're lucky enough to be unbanned in the first place, then I find that unacceptable. I'm paying for the time to play when I want to play (barring server mishaps and resets). If I were banned I would expect monetary compensation both in game and out of game. In game for the money I would have earned, out of game for the real life money that I've spent but been unable to play due to SOE's carelessness and witch hunts. Of course, I know that would never happen. And, I suspect if I was ever banned, it would be a permanent ban, by my choice. It's unacceptable for to me for SOE to just give people their accounts back and say "oops, sorry!" /giggle. Especially when they don't even have the balls to come onto the forums and make a statement. This is supposed to be customer service?

Well, if we're going to equate this to real life, it makes more sense to equate this to when you're done wrong by a credit card company, or even the cable company and various other companies. That is, if my service is shut off, or an error is made, I call up and I complain. And, not only do I want and expect them to fix the error. But, I also expect to be compensated for any losses, time or otherwise, that I may have incurred. I usually get a lower APR in the case of a credit card, or a free month or half month in the case of another service that is based on time paid. They do this because they realize they made a mistake and they want to keep me as a customer. If they are unwilling to do this, I take my business elsewhere. Unfortunately, in the case of most online games, it's been my experience that they haven't figured this part of customer service out.

ahhh anyone who thinks temp bans are not a good thing let me try a word on you " battlenet " . We do not want the loonies running the asylume so we just have to endure the bans. When a cop stops you , looking for a criminal , do you scream and holler ? No . You except it as the price of haveing a viable police force . You will always beable to find a story of someone wronged , thats life . If you want a griefless game unfortunatly you would be regulated to solitare .

A bit of a stretch there.

Using a police analogy, it would be more like this:
A bank is robbed and the police lock up anyone buying a television in the store down the block, and hold them until they can prove they are innocent.

I don't know about you, but I think I would be fairly vocal in such a situation.

I never like to lay the blame only on one group. I'm an equal opportunity blamer. Yes, the people who duped started it all. However, as a business, it's the onus of SOE to handle things responsibly. They did not. They took the all too easy way out of harming everybody's gameplay as opposed to actually making a responsible choice. The choice could have been removal of credits while certain players were under investigation. Perhaps there were other options, I'm not sure. But, banning an innocent player is nothing more than a witch hunt. People all over Kettemoor are closing down vendors entirely because they're afraid they may receive a few credits of tainted money that have been already passed around from person to person. People aren't providing services, I hear talk of the economy grinding to a halt.

IMO, this was handled extremely poorly. And, I, for one, would not take kindly at all if this happened to me, and I don't leave SOE blameless in this matter. They didn't cause the problem, true, but they made it worse by acting in this manner.
