*nods* I agree. This may be too much of a commitment if they are questioning how many will use it. I don't know, I'm not sure how much more involved this would be than the ID UI (and Dancers have always out numbered IDs), but animations are just in general harder to work with than model and texture manipulation - so probably a lot.

My understanding is that it would require a total re-write of our base code and how we interface with the engine.

Sadly, I highly doubt there will be enough new players, in large enough numbers, to give us the weight we would need to persuade the devs to doanything dramatic on our behalf.

I have this nasty and depressing feeling that the Star Wars genre has had it's day and, as SOE/LA don't seem too fussed at letting what could have been the greatest MMORPG slip through their fingers, I don't see it lasting another year.

I so hope someone proves me wrong, or that my fun is restored in a game that seems to have lost direction somewhere along the line.

after thinking about what you have written, and refelecting on what has just
happened with the rather sloppy implementation of our new buffs. I disagree.

I dont want our base code touched.
I dont care if I end a tumble upside down
I dont care if the flourishes dont match up
I dont care if I cant end a flourish when I want to so I can move right away
I dont care if the group I am in cant start dancing all at the same time.

I can dance now. It may not be perfect, but it works.
Sure, what you are suggesting is wonderful, doable etc. but we all know implementation is flawed.
Its nice to dream, but I strongly suspect, the day that such changes were introduced, few
of us would be able to dance AT ALL, and once changed, we lack the numbers to call
for a change back. If they truly break this profession... we'll be waiting for the next revamp to
hit sometime after the smuggler one.

thats just my opinion

Well, that's what Esh was cautioning us about. It could leave us totally borked for a while or perhaps forever if they got into it, did a few attempts at a change, and then couldn't waste anymore time with it. That's sort of what the "broken dance fix" was - it wasn't really so much of a fix as a trade in for a new problem. They have not yet shown interest in fixing the new problems either.

So yeah, I know it's risky. It was risky when we asked for a fix to the speed buff too. I pitched a fit in the corr forum and said "now we have more restrictions on our animations! we wanted more control, not less! you should put us back and leave us how we were!" and they basically told the new little corr to shut her mouth it was broken and they fixed it. Period, lol.

I just think this is a reasonable risk. I want it the right and full way badly enough to take the risk. If the others in the community don't though and out vote asking for these changes, I will deal with it. I think it should be something the majority of us want before we ask for it.

The dancer's control of when the flourishis called is an important part of these transitions.If our flourishes were queued, as musicians' are, we would lose all ability to control our performances. Wouldn't it be better for dancers to learn when in the base dance loop to call a flourish so that it flows seemlessly back into the base?

Changing dances mid-flourish can also give you control of your drift. All you have to do is learn in what directionthe flourisheswill move you. Choose the same numbered flourish in the dance you are in, /changed to the dance containing the flourish you want to use to move you and then /changed back to your original dance or another.

This is a nice idea in theory. In practice there are a few problems with it:

Correcting for drift like that is a bit of a hack, and can certainly be disruptive to the dance you're trying to do.

Hitting flos at just the right time is impossible once lag is taken into consideration. You can learn the precise times all you like, but it won't do you any good.

Since publish 14.1 you have no guarantee of showing up where you actually are to anyone who's watching you, and lag just makes this worse. I can look like I'm doing breakdance in the middle of the room to one person and off to the left to another when I'm actually on the right. There's no way to correct for that.

I believe that being able to queue flourishes should mitigate the drift problems because you always return to your centerpoint, and the flourishes can be batched to the clients so there's no minor lag between when you flourished and when other people see you flourish to make you look like you're elsewhere.

All this is my opinion, of course. If we had something approaching a real interface, or, at least a solution to the drunk-walk expansive base dances that wasn't a gross hack then we'd be getting somewhere.

Oh heck we all know that if they actually do decide to fix one thing they'll break about 20 others for the next year.

If you want more synchronized dancing, leave that up to the players to manage, not the coding. Make an alias file or macroand use cued groupchat calls, such as...

/g Dancers, /changedance Bunduki on my mark...;

/pause 5;

/g Mark!;

The tools are THERE, they just require you to be a bit more cerebral. And like all live performances, it leaves you open to make mistakes.

Many bands have used this system for dancers and musicians since day 1.
