Thread: One Front: A Survey for the Dancer Community
Our strong desire is interaction. Either with other players or with our Dances. Devs can understand that request... they can design and code for game interaction, it's what they are all about! What it seems like they can not understand is how to make a playstyle work that is dependent on not interacting with the game. I think we should stop asking for safe guards against people ruining our way to not interact with the game.
Oh! Well said, Panthu! I couldn't agree more. Let's work on finding (viable) ways ofimproving our play - not just ways to stop others from ruining it.
#1 Bug:
Let's take a cue from those that love buffbots, shall we? Why do they love them? "Because we can't find any Live entertainers!"
In my eyes, hands down the biggest problem is the Regitration system. This would help players FIND US, and not give them that excuse to play with.
#1 Issue:
I'll go beyond the typical 'buffbot' issue and expand it to ALL unattended play. The dancer and musician profs are just the easiest profs to unattend, but all forms of this (macro looting, Spam advertising, non-play combat grinding) should be stopped. We should all know what my solution to this is, so I won't repeat it here.
#1 issue: Unattentive Gameplay: Problem is, I don't really see a solution without SOE banning people using the loophole of the day (or a 3rd party tool). And I don't see them doing this as long as no fighters complain about it
Quite simply: how do you see the tradeoff between offense and defense for a swordsman.
Option #1: Offense
Option #2: Defense
-- Category #2: Specials --
Which of the following seem the most appealing for providing specialty offensive specials for swordsman. Try to pick only a couple as obviously Swordsmen cannot have everything, and allot your posts as you see fit. Unfortunately I cannot cover all possible types of specials so do feel free to put points into #6 and explain what makes sense to you.
Option #1: Bleeds/Wounds
Option #2: Delays (like warcry)
Option #3: Snares
Option #4: Knockdown
Option #5: AE attacks
Option #6: Intimidate
Option #7: Stun
Option #8: Blind
Option #9: Dizzy
Option #10: Other Affects (please explain)
This one is going to be tough and I don't even know if we'll get a meaningful result, but it's worth a try.
-- Category #3: Defensive Abilities --
Which of the following should be the most effective of Swordsman defensive abilities.
Option #1: Melee Defense
Option #2: Ranged Defense
Option #3: Counterattack
Option #4: Toughness
Option #5: Active Defensive Abilities
Option #5 refers to abilities like Center of Being.
-- Category #4: Weapons --
What should be the priority on Swordsman weapons:
Option #1: Damage
Option #2: Speed
Option #3: Armor piercing
Option #4: Accuracy
Option #5: Other (explain)
-- Category #5: Group Roles --
When you are in a group, what role do you think that you as a swordsman should fill:
Option #1: Tank
Option #2: Damage dealer
Option #3: Crowd Controller
Option #4: Utility
Option #5: Other (explain)
Utility refers to utilities such as loading a target full of status affects, healing members in the group, etc. Unfortunately there is a huge realm of possible roles here and I suspect that many will want to choose other -- that's fine.

I think the buffing systemwill win out as our issue. Bugs?
*sigh* Was that for me? See... I never get to really go off now that I'm a Corre. ![]()
If I get a bug vote, I say the Music/Dance Same Time Buff Bug.
Please hear me out, I'm truly not trying to be argumentative, but the issue of buff botshas been going around in circles just like our profession of dancing.
I have 3 accounts, my primary account is dancer/smuggler. My other accounts are artisan/tailor/merchant and doctor/novice CH. I haven't chosen dance as my primary profession only because I'm a RP player. I chose dance because Ido like to occasionallychat, but I also like to be helpful with buffs and healingand play with the movements other professions lack. Dance is a pretty profession and thankfully there's practicality too. If there was no practical reason to be a dancer (healing and buffs)then there would be no reason for interaction at all. The profession could easilybe replaced with vendors.
Buff vendors (and yes, they're vendors just like any merchant vendor) steal our practical reasons for choosing the profession and lessen any chance of interaction. No other profession (other than musicians)can be played AFK once they finish grinding. Because it's possible to create buff vendors, less people are choosing to play the profession and live dancers and musicians are more difficult to find. It's a catch 22. Maybe the devs might find that if there were no buff vendors that more people would actually choose to play the class.... even out of necessity for their cities or guilds.
If you take away the practicality of our entertaining profession you'll be left with a handful of diehards who will stay with the professions because they enjoy playing withthe movements of dance and the sounds of the music. We'll be left a very small, lonely group, who gets little respect from their fellow players. Many players now consider our choice silly, including the buff vendors. I'll remain a diehard because I don't care that others find my choice silly or stupid. But it would be lovely to return the practicality to our profession. Make those of us who want to play the game ATK useful again and less of a joke to the other players.
If you want to know why I have two other accounts, it's because our small city needed a tailor and doctor. Funny, but when I play those secondary accounts, I can't AFK.
I left EQ after playing for 4 years because I was tried of hack and slash for "uber l00tz". The dance profession is probably the furthest profession from that type of play and I think it's great! I hope it isn't killed.
