As much as I despise macro AFK entertainers, I cannot fault holotainers on this one. Folks are being forced into a profession whose play style is dramatically different by a holocron that told them they had to. I would not expect these folks to suddenly become socializers overnight.

Thanks for posting this, Ravenmist.

Yup. I agree 100%. I feel for them. I wouldn't like being told I had to master Squad Leader or something. (Not that I would do it, because MY character is MINE, and I will NOT be told what profession she should be.)

As a holo person who was told to master Dancer, thanks for this post. I'll say the same thing I said to the Creature Handlers when I asked how to master their profession quickly . I don't do it to disparage you or your playstyle. I do, in fact, want to get in and out of your way as quickly as possible. I have the greatest respect for anyone who WANTS to play a Dancer. It's just not my cup of tea. So thanks again, from a lizard dancing in his boxers.

The word "macro" alone isn't the issue.. it's the AFK part. I for one LOVE working on macros... it doesn't mean that I"m going to let my macro run and leave my computer on. I macro songs, dances, whatever.. just to put cool things together whithout burning my fingers typing as fast as I can. So, Macros alone are not the culprit here.

I just wanted to add my thanks for the help. I'll freely admit that I'm passing through Dancer because of a Holocron. The handle I've been using for the last 8 years should illustrate what my primary interest in this game is. Thank you all for your understanding. There are a few other profession forums that are not very tolerant of Jedi grinders. It's a breath of fresh air to see a lower degree of resentment for the players that are, at least in part, victims of a system. (It's still *my* choice to do this, so I can't fault the devs entirely)

I've no intentions of spamming spatial garbage asking of tips and stuff, I made money doing what I enjoy... combat. I wouldn't dream of adding things to a macro that would bother other people. Frankly... but for the healing xp requirements, I'd just grind my xp outside of populated areas and leave the entertaining to the real Entertainers. Alas... such is the way this game is.

At any rate, thanks so much! I'll be out of your hair before you know it. :-)

Cheers!

I have to agree with several posts made by people here. I understand why there is a sudden influx of people trying to master entertainer, musician, and dancer. What bothers me though is that they don't work through the system like 95% of us did, i.e. actively being at the keyboard and controlling our own flourishes, or even just using a macro to save wear and tear on the wrists (sometimes I wonder if I'm developing carpal tunnel :smileyhappy while still being actively at the keyboard and interacting with the customers and the other entertainers.

I hadn't been in a cantina for the sole purpose to gain xpin a long time until I decided to master entertainer on my own, because I, too, have a desire to be a Jedi one day. It took awhile, but I worked my way through the music tree and the Image Design tree to attain master, and I did it completely at the computer.

I'm sorry if this sounds like a rant, I just wish there were more holocron hunters who were willing to give our world a fair try and complete all their xp will actively being at the keyboard and trying to understand how much fun we have at our profession and why we do it. Our professions are the easiest to master with the least effort, and that saddens me to no end.

Let me rephrase my last statement since it came out unclearly. Our professions (Dancer, Entertainer, and Musician) seem to be the easiest to master for those who choose to get through them by being afk and using macros to complete the grind (thus the least effort).

For those of us who work at them, they are some of the toughest to master because they take a lot of time and much of the xp depends completely on the number of other people who come to watch you entertain.

As a slight counter-argument, your xp ALSO depends on the number of people in your group doing what you are doing. So while you might not like AFK entertainers, they are adding to your group xp. Now the problem happens if they are taking a slot froman at the keyboard person.

Granted, they do add to the xp gained from fellow groupmates. However, one of the problems we encountered on my last visit to the cantina was that when the group got full and others wanted in, we had to spend several minutes each time trying to figure out if everyone was at the keyboard, and if not, if they were gone just for a moment (say for a bathroom break) or were afk entertaining. LOL no one wanted to be the leader that day.

Myself, I wouldn't mind a little less group xp if it meant one less AFK entertainer. Several times we had customers come in complaining about the number of people that were AFK, and there wasn't much we could do about it except respond that there were several of us at the keyboard still and welcome the customersas warmly as possible.

Yep, it's an issue. I was in Coronet last night and we had litteraly 50 entertainers in the cantina. Needless to say, while we all got group xp no one was getting much healing xp. I'm going to finish my Dancing line there tonight and then head for a less populous planet to get my healing I guess.

So much hatred for AFKers.

First of all, we all need to sleep...and eat...and go to work or school. Second of all, not all of us want to have to play for an extended period of time to master a single profession. It's rediculous to condemn people for AFK macroing. It's perfectly fair to people that have things to do in thier lives and can't sit on their computer all day, but who also don't want to pay Sony cash any longer than they have to to get a sense of accomplishment from the game.

Youcan bet thatI'm not gonna keep paying for a drawn out boring grind, though there's a lot of other customers who will (EQ, what? ). I'm going to do what I can toachievesomethingand make the game feel likeit's worth continued playing, not just a second job where someone else is getting paid. So far, SWG has been really good in this sense.

...has mastered the Image Design Profession.
...has mastered the Dancer Profession.
...has mastered the Medic Profession.

Anyone who believes that AFK macroing violates the EULA should do a search for postings with the word "macro" authored by Jeassa. One such posting can be found here:

Just because I've seen this tossed into the discussion so much recently, I posted on the correspondent's forum asking for clarification on it. I expect the answer to be the same as Jeassa's.

The EULA refers ONLY to third-party macro programs. In-game macros are not (yet) in violation of the EULA.

I would not put it past SOE to say using an ingame feature is a violation of the game EULA.
