FWIW, I managed to get all of Tempest's cantina crowd out of the cantina and into the hotel tonight for a great party. There were drinks passed around, music, and dancing, and even though, despite my best efforts to encourage Karaoke, there was little of it, the atmosphere was much like a Karaoke bar, where there was a lot of interaction among patrons, a lot of laughter, and of course much drinking. I had a droid that was in the cantina with a name EntsAreInTheHotel, and when I went to go recharge it once, there was literally *no one* in the Theed cantina. We'd managed to pull the healing apects of the entertainment into the hotel. So it can be done.
My next experiment will be the theater
.
(To add to the story, after a while in the hotel, we moved the party to someone's camp by the river, where we danced in the water, fished, and got buried in the sand. After a while there, we moved to the streets outside the cantina, for the second ever Tempest Block Party/Party Under the Stars! Tonight was a great night
, and it all started in the hotel.)

Sharven, I see what you're getting at now, although I think you're being a bit harsh on the poor cantinas. For my part, before I actually started playing this game, I thought they would be like the central park/bar/tavern that all text-based MUCKs seem to have, where people hang out and socialize when they aren't doing anything else. Like the Dirty Miner Bar on ColoniesMUCK. Obviously, they aren't--the ONLY socialization I've experienced on SWG, to date, has been in entertainer groups.
(That's one of the reasons why I advocate eliminating buffs entirely, instead of changing or reducing them; the cantina as a SOCIAL venue is much more functional when people are going there after the mission, rather than before.)
But there's no reason why theatres and hotels can't serve the same fuction, for a higher class of clientele.

Which is annoying, really. Just because the Mos Eisley spaceport bar was called a cantina, that doesn't mean all drinking establishments across the galaxy are called cantinas. Just once I'd like to see a pub, or a tavern or something.
Star Wars is full of this kind of typecasting. Greedo was a bounty hunter, so all Rodians are bounty hunters. Jabba was a gangster, so all Hutts are gangsters. For all we knew prior to Episode I, the Hutts had a beautiful and elegant culture centered around fine art appreciation, and Jabba was a big disappointment to his mother.

ODYSSEUS: Whatever.
Well, excepting for the few languges in the movies that had to have subtitles, everyone spoke a common language, so going with that assumption, the word Cantina within the Star Wars universe could just be a generic term for that type of establishment within that common language. It's the same as certain regional dialects calling all forms of carbonated non-achololic beverages a soda, or a pop, or a generically termed coke.
And for the record, there are Tavern's in game as well.
