Thread: I'm seriously thinking of surrendering Dancer :(
Thanks for the posts, people. I think I was having one of those moods here, and everything looked pretty grim. As I played last night (before my cable company got hit by the Blaster.worm virus) I realized that, as Aleksander said in one post, it's going to take millions of XP for me to get to TK Master -- that's a Loooong time before I have to worry about it. And if I try CH and like it, there's nothing that says I can't just stick with TK on a lesser level.

Ok, here's some advice, DON'T go Teras Kasi. I'm a Teras Kasi master and i'm dropping it for commando when i get home. And if commando isn't fixed next patch i'm saying screw it and going Bounty Hunter. Teras Kasi are completely broken. Knockdown is a joke, pvp is a joke and mass pvp is even more of a joke. You'll hear people say "just use unarmed lunge, then get close and hit them". Please, as a carbiner right now i can just ranged knockdown and keep running and shooting with very little ham cost. Use tka knockdown 3 times and you incap yourself with the damage you take.
I believe I did say I was already TK Novice - 0/1/1/1, in fact. And they screwed Knockdown up but they also admitted that the HAM costs are bugged. Yet I've managed to work with it, and by unequipping my knuckles have reduced HAM cost on Knockdown from 700 to 210 - meaning I'm able to KD several times during a fight if needed, as long as I don't have the knucks on
I guess I'm less concerned with min/maxing or playing the ideal class/race combo than I am playing the way I want. I should have made a Twi'lek if I wanted to dance. I made a human female. I should have made a Trandoshan if I wanted to be TK, but I didn't. To me it's more important to be me than to be uber
someone up there said "you'll always be playing a novice character while having logged in hundreds of hours." and the first thought I had was, "yeah..and if you have fun doing it, you win the game!"
I fully expect to surrender some of my skills, and in fact have been forced to do so already from one profession or another. But that's something I like about this game--as my mood changes, I can change what I'm doing. Would it be irritating to have to work up to master again if I ever dropped master dancer and then changed my mind? Well, maybe. But if I'm having fun, it's no big deal. And if I'm not, well, I probably wasn't having fun doing that anyway.
In any case, good luck in whatever you decide to do, and don't lose sight of what's most important!
Hey Sinda!
I know how you feel. I want to be a master tailor, but I have also started up with some combat skills and I am having a blast.
The last weekend that I grinded to make master, I made a ton of money in tips. I went and saw the galaxy for a few days, came back and invested all that tip money into harvesters to start collecting supplies for my tailoring needs. Since I harvest way more resources than I need at the moment, I make some good cr selling that stuff at the bazaar.
Over the weekend I got a medium house and opened a thrift shop.
But, I still adore my master dance title. I only have 40 points left, so if I want to be a master tailor, I will have to surrender something. I really don't want to get rid of Master dancer. I need scout for hide. So hopefully I will have enough by surrendering some pistol and my medic skills.
I don't dance as much as I used to. I usually pop into a Cantina in just about any town I travel to and check out the scene. If it is filled with nothing but AFK dancers, I will stay and dance for a while until a real live performer shows up. So I really don't want to give it up, because it is such a different pace than everything else.
I am having more fun than ever with this game because of all the different things I have been doing.
I have thought though, that maybe before I would even consider giving up my master dancer title, if I wanted to do more combat, is to just create another character on another server. So when I feel like destroying things, I use that character, when I feel like dancing, I will use my main character.
Just do what makes you happy! You worked hard for where you are now.
I know how you feel. I did try starting a character on another server, but it just is not the same. I was attractedto this game mostly by the thought of having a non combat character, but that idea is already by the boards. The only suggestion that I would make is that you drop dancer only when you need the skill points. I have pretty much been acquiring one hand sword and pistol experience to see which I prefer.I too started tailoring but intend at this point to give back all my artisan skills before I gave back any of the dancer line.
If you decide to develop combat skills you can certainly compromise. You could still dance fatigue and wounds away pretty effectively if you just gave back the master dance titleand the entire worthless techniques line. That would free up (I think)15 skill points. You should check the Allakhazam site's character builder to see what you need or want and what you could pick up by surrendering part of the dance line. If you have been a master dancer long, you probably have enough experienceto get the skills right back if they ever add anything that makes the title worth having for any reason but pride in the accomplishment.
Forget about player-run cantina's until player-run cities come out.
Here is what you *should* do in the meantime -- find a busy shop! Weaponsmith/armorsmith is probably the best choice. That's where i'm performing about 75% of the time right now... Find enough other players to do it with you so that you can have people there almost every night during prime-time play so that the customers see you and get to know you. Maybe work out a deal with the shop owner.
That is a a great! Idea Hawaii.
I am gonna give that a try.

TKA's are extremely powerful compared to the other melee classes.
What it comes down to is everyone is trying to find the perfect all-powerful class or something.

I'm almost convinced it's going to take Player Cities to get private cantinas to really work at all.
Correct, I'd say. It'll take player cantinas showing on the planetary map in combo with the new command that lets us register with a place to show that it's manned.
The next best thing, I'd say, is to find a large PA that has their own cantina. Are you on Bria?Living Force on Naboo seems to be one. Alternatively, join an entertainer's PA. Fatal Xceptions is based out of Tyrena on Corellia, is full of masters of all stripes, and puts on shows regularly. I jammed a bit with them a local wedding recently. If your desire is to perform then I can't recommend them highly enough. If your desire is to be the star of your own cantina show, then they may or may not be the thing for you. If you're on Chilastra (That's where Adara is, I think) then the Academy might be the place you want to turn to. Otherwise, ask around on your server board. There's bound to be an entertainer PA someplace.
I know the moment I surrender my hard-won Master Dancer title, I'm going to be very depressed and disappointed. It was my first love, and really still my main source of joy in this game. I don't know for sure what the point of this post was, except to cry a little and get some understanding - maybe even some advice from y'all. I want to stay a Dancer, but I'm not sure how I can stay a Dancer when there's nothing to Dance for. Tell me there is? Where is the hope?
There is no hope. Sorry to sound like a downer, but here's why - The hope resides in you. What is it that you want from dancing? What were your goals when you started and what are they now? How are they not being fulfilled? I see so many masters looking around and saying "What do I do now?" because their only plan was to make master. They didn't have a concrete plan for their game life after they reached the pinnacle.
The game can't provide you something to dance for. It can only provide you the means to dance. Your fellow players and, ultimately, your own heart are what provide the reason to dance. This is the thing that the grinders and the people whose only concern is maxing their tips miss out on.
Sinda, you say you love dance but you feel unfulfilled or maybe you feel like you're drifting without a goal now. Ask yourself WHY you love dance. Pinpoint one or two concrete things that you enjoy. Tell us what they are. It's easy to pinpoint things you dislike. It's often much harder to pin down exactly what it is that you DO like. Then look for concrete ways to maximize the enjoyment you get from those things. Look for a way to build an environment that brings those things to you.
Private cantinas work, I know, i run one. I started with a medium Tatooine house. I emailed all my regular customers with an invitation to visit. I made sure that i was positioned near their favorite hunting grounds. Within two weeks a town had sprung up around me, people adding shops and houses daily. Five days ago we upgraded our beloved medium house to a PA Hall and formed a PA for our city.
We started with two musicians and a dancer. One of the musicians mastered architecture to make things cheaper. Now we have 5 regular musicians and 4 dancers, we all seem to play in shifts so not everyone is there at the same time. Plus a staff of five medics that rotate duty shift between them.
Some advice a wise lady once gave me "if you build it, they will come".

Don't go any melee class, that's my advice. It's the advice of a tka master...soon to be former master once i get home tonight. I myself am tired of waiting for fixes that will never come. If that's how you feel about dancer, drop it and do something else. I'm also a CH right now, very fun and a MUST if you want to solo. You could juggle CH with Carbiner and Medic. Good combo.
I know it's sad to drop things we've worked hard to get. But face it, if your not having fun anymore with it and the dev's really won't fix anything soon (or ever) regarding it, then drop it and try something else. It took me a long time to get Tka master and i'm sure you a long time to get master dancer. My first love will always be TKA, as will dancer for you...but...time to face facts for myself. I wont pay monthly to play a broken class. I want to have fun. If your having fun, stay dancer. If your not, time to change.
wake up bud... bounty hunter is just as broke as tk--probably more

Celadori you may be the exception. Although I have seen private cantina's have limited success.
I didn't mean that people should stop trying though! I really just meant to give dancers an alternative venue to a private cantina if they cannot find a successful one on their server.
