As a character who is a Zabrak & also a master ID (back when it was one of the SLOWEST professions to get)...I can tell you that not only does my race hurt my tips, my particular horn/hair style & facial tattoo matters immensely. People, sadly, want as close to a Barbie-like white bread boring clone chick as possible & penalize a bald alien with horns & a black full face tattoo. I could practically make a graph showing tip loss per look. I rarely have the same look twice, & some get tips, others get everything short of outright offense.

The tatoo could effect the tip. I chose to forgo the traditional facial tatoo and have the single ponytail and small frontal horn arrangement. Ninja, are you male or female? Your character I mean. I've never been able to figure it out. A lot of your posts are distinctly male. LOL

Not to be sexist in anyway but......... In a male dominated culture like gaming playing a FEMALE character will yield entirely different reactions. I have noticed that female Entertainer/ID types do get more customers and tips. Ive even seen female toons get treated to free items just for being a female toon...lol

Again not a sexist post. Just an observation.

P.S. Im a Male in RL and in game

Big tips = exotic leotards, metal bikini/hotpant combo, low cut tops and shorts...in that order and excluding giving out mind buffs.

Thats the summary of that long post. If you're a zabrak then get a hat or have an image designer add some hair if you're afraid that you'll get passed up. Try and remember that the majority of people playing this game are males. If you're a female they're going to see your avatar as an extension of you. So if you're a 5'1" 300lb girl in real life they could care less as long as your avatar looks sexsy (men are more inclined to seek and/or enjoy the attention from an attractive persona than an ugly one).

The twilek thing stems from Return of the Jedi although personally I thought princess leia in the metal bikini waaay outdid the twilek in looks.

Try breaking the ice by saying hello and welcoming them by using their own name. If you want to be social this is pretty much a must since they are basically looking at a large group of strangers all doing the exact same dance or some form of music. Dont expect them to stay long though. Many of us dont have hours and hours of freetime on our hands so we want to get healed and back into the field ASAP. After a while though you may retain some regular customers who will stay a bit longer and may tip more regularly.

Yeah we definitely need some new male dancing animationsand clothing. Guys in hotpants doing exotic4 are....just weird. If I'm going to be in a thong can I at least have some macho male stri...err dancer animations?

I have never really noticed a huge difference in tips that I get based on the clothes I wear, really. I get different comments based on what I might be wearing, but I have never noticed a real difference in tip amount. I have two medium houses filled with nothing but clothes, not counting the 4 or 5 costumes I always carry with me for improptu shows, so I am rarely wearing the same thing twice in a row but my tip income seems to remain fairly constant.

From my point of view, my own personal energy level and effort have much more to do with it. On low energy days when I don't chat much and am just not "on" I don't get good tips. When I am on my game and really entertaining and interacting with the customers, I get very good tips.

Thanks for the advice, but really it's not getting tips "period" that I have a problem with or anything. Just observing that, all else being equal, a Zabrak dancer is going to get tipped less than the identically dressed & RP'd human or twilek. And not only tat, but the more alien & unusual, the less tips come in. I hate to think what it must be like for mon calamari.

Oddly it seems to HELP my ID buisiness a bit...the same people who pay attention to & are interested in cool looks also dig the more out-there, less bland visuals inherent in the alien races. Those people are also inclined to want ID work done (and not just want things "fixed"...usually to look more bland or more cookie cutter). IOW, the ones that like crazy Zab chicks are the same ones who pay for 20K suites of interesting & radical changes.

Now the day I get another Zab gal asking to LOSE her humanlike hair bits for full-on mean-looking Darth Maul crown-of-horns....is the day ID pays off for me =)

(P.S.- my ID/Dancer is female...why is it that people equate strength & inability to play dead or engage in popularity contests as "male" traits?)

I was going to come into this thread and tell you how the species has little to do with tipping in this galaxy, but I had to stop and be truthful with myself.I'm going to say something here I haven't said to anyone, because I'vebeen concerned about this for quite some time and its bothered me . . . a lot.

Back during the days when Lei was the master dancer and I was still trying to dance without getting my ankles tied together, she got all the notice. She's striking and tends to stand out in a crowd. However, once I earned my master title, things started to change. Suddenly I was the one people automatically watched. I was the one they talked to. I was the one they addressed. I was the one they tipped. For a while I told myself that it was because Roho and I are a couple and everyone just naturally deferred to us. Only, thing was - it happened even when Roho wasn't with us. Now, Lei never said anything - not even to me, but I know it confused her andhurt her feelings. I don't think she even realizes that I noticed, but I did.

I'm the skinny, pale, short blonde - Lei is the vuluptuous one. She's the one with the amazingly blue eyes. She's the one with the perfect Barbie ponytail. She's the one with the radiant tan. She's the one who can wear light colors and not disappear . . . So . . . why am I the one getting the attention?

Perhaps it is because I am human . . . What has this galaxy come to?

Wow!

I feel I need to answer this, but I'm not sure how. Pretty much everything Kirah said is true. Shes right, I didn't think she noticed. We dance together, a lot, have done so for ages it seems. When we dance together and some one asks for a buff we usually will say in near unison, "Take your pick. We are both Masters" or something very similar. Chances are they willpick Kirah orwill already bewatching her. I usually just shrug it off, they couldn't pick a better dancer to watch, but it does hurt. In fact I often feel like a spare tire around her. Is it because I'm a Zabrak? Could be. I dont want to say what is the persons mind on the other end of the keyboard. So maybe the species does matter, I'm no longer certain. Kirah is right, I would never have said anything, but I'm glad she did. But then what are sisters for if not to say what needs to be said. Thank you Kirah.

Uhm... was that directed at me, for asking your character's gender? Or for stating that I got a 'male' vibe from your posts? Because, you're reading waaaaaay too much into that, if it is. I mean, hell. By those standards (strength and inability to engage in popularity contests), I would imagine half the ID/Dancer forum readers think I'm a guy. I was just curious. Crimany.

To rerail the thread... I DEFINITELY get an increase in tips depending on what I'm wearing. I also wear different outfits for different dances. Here'sa general layout:

Popular/Popular2: Low-cut top, infiltrator leggings, boots, lekku wrap. Another cute outfit is a fleshwrap andpullover in the same color, with boots. Looks kinda go-go dancer-ish.

Lyrical/Lyrical2: Fashionably pleated skirt, metal bikini, uniform gloves, dress slippers, lekku wrap.

Exotic1/2/3/4: Exotic Leotard, Fleshwrap (Although I'm less crazy about these than I used to be), Grand Ball Gown.

Another outfit I'm fond of (which the guys love, and the girls hate) is a cloak, hot pants, and boots - no shirt. It is VERY revealing... but it IS just pixels. And if some guy wants to give me 100k for showing him my PIXELS *gasp* then far be it from me to argue with him. I've never been one of those girls who does anything butdance for my clients, and I never will be. And I've never considered myself to be 'selling out' when I wear this. I've gotta pay my bills somehow!

Alrighty.. I hope you don't mind me putting my 2 credits in on this...

My main is Alasrii, a Master Dancer/Master Politician on Starsider. When I was leveling her up.. I was prone to visiting Coronet a time or four. I always chose a corner to dance in so I could not be in the 'thick' of things, and I tended to wear not so revealing clothes. I think the worst I got was a simple red lekku wrap, a pair of white comfortable pants and an 'Alasrii red' revealing top ((The tailors in town coined that name for me )). With everyone else wearing exotic leotards I stood out in the crowd. I also tried to say at least hello to everyone who walked in and struck up a conversation. I was told many times that I was the sexiest thing in there.. for one simple reason.. I did not dress to wow anyone. Just to please myself. And of course I told jokes like... What do you call a dancer in a tailor shoppe? Broke

Things like this made me stand out as a dancer, and I was well tipped for it. Alasrii is a bright and bubbly 17 year old twi'lek who loves to show off her dancing skills. Now she's a master but she still shows up in coronet on occassion though. When people are looking for entertainment.. they want a show, so give them one. *grin* She also carried her inventory full plus some droids full of clothing for dramatic clothing changes depending on what she was dancing.

Just my 2 credits worth in here.. though I think I went a bit over that...

Regarding dress . . . the times I've been "hit" on the most have been when I'm the . . . most covered up in the cantina. I did the leotard/fleshwrap thing for a short while, but never felt comfortable in them. The only person who really seems to miss them is Roho . . . *giggle*

Hehe! I like that one . . . (Lei scans the boards to see if anyone is watching as she hastily copies the joke down for future us.)
