I completely agree with the original poster on this one. I will go out of my way to avoid listening to or watching AFK entertainers and never tip them. When ever I post on a "I remember when..." thread on the Wanderhome boards I allways include I remember when you could always talk to an entertainer. After running around killing stuff it is nice to sit back and talk with someone new.

/cheer combatplayer posters!

Thank you all again for sharing that you appreciate us being there for you, ATK all the way. It really does make a difference to me.

Sharing this one from tonight:

I was in Theed cantina tonight, mostly because I hadn't been there is awhile. Aboutfew minutes before server down, I heard someone stuck up in the entryway yelling to try to find any entertainers who were actually there. Lil' (one of our LIVE dancer/musician/entertainers) and I went through the usual "nope, I'm afk *cough*" spiel, and laughing about it. Two minutes later, I heard him again, this time saying he had something like 562 bf from fighting with a Jedi, and really wanted some conversation before server down. In case he hadn't found anyone up in the entryway yet, I fired him a tell saying that we were joking about the afk thing, and to get down to the main floor fast so I could take care of him. He did, and we chatted the last 3 minutes or so before reset, and took care of all his bf, and he said he'd be back in touch again for entertainment.

Moral of the story? Here was another guy out there who, even with 562 bf and minutes to go before server reset, refused to even watch an AFK dancer to just heal and go. He wanted a bit of the personal touch, and was willing to wait to find it. Rare? Maybe. But they're out there, and they're the reason I keep on going, and why I know that our profession is still worth playing and loving.

Those of you players, especially the combat players, who are posting to let us know you care... you may not even know how much your words mean right now to us. With so many vocal people saying that the zombies are "more convenient" and such, there's too much of an impression that nobody wants live performers anymore. I know you're out there... I've talked with you. Thanks again for going public with your support.

I went to coronet cantina last night to join some friends who were working on getting thier dancing skills a bit faster. I actually made 13k in tips the short time I was there. 10k from one who heard me complaining about all the spam (this was while I was still in one of my travel robes, before I started dancing), and 3k right after that when someone walked in and asked if anybody was here.

On a funny side note, as me and my friends were leaving, one of my friends was group leader in a full ent group so she asked in group who wanted to take it, nobody answered up so I just recommend she disband, and she did, stranding 17 afkers Someone may have been there though, the first thing I do when walking into coronet cantina is /addignore everybody that spams for group invite, heals, tips, or does some stupid random emote repeatedly, esp if they have afk over thier head (it gets pretty quite in there after that, tho my ignore list grows by like 15 people each time I visit, damn holocrons). So anyway a spammer may have been there and answered up, we just didn't hear them, but screw them anyway.

And awful lot of us (live entertainers) are basically on strike or sitting out the Holo days... I moved from Eclipse recently and as soon as I got my Master Dancer status back (by actually Playing, not AFKing) I abandoned the cantinas. I, likemost of the entertianers I know, wont BE back in the cantinas untill the Spam Zombies leave.

I actually FOUND a Cantina without them and moved in immediately as well as telling a few other folks I knew about it. It was like a little slice of Heaven for about 4 days. Then some of the Holo grinders found a newCantina with people in it and moved in en masse. It became just like Theed or Coronet.

Trying to have a public Conversation in one of them is like spitting into the face of a hurricane. A wasted effort. And God forbid that you should actually ASK someone politely and courteously to slow down the spam so the rest of us can talk. The responses you get will greatly broaden your vocabulary of obscene language...

What really galls and embrasses me are the AFK Dancers and Musicians Begging for tips every 5 seconds for the Professional Entertainers they purport to be...

I guess Shame is something no one believes in anymore.

So dont Expect to see many of us out there for a while yet. There are a Few hardy, masochistic souls left. I used to BE one of them. But even I gave up a couple weeks ago.

For those of us on Starsider that are of the same mind as Navar, head to the Mos Eisley Cantina. There you will almost always find at least one Pixie with a cheerful 'hello' as they are never AFK (methinks afk should be a four letter word?).

Yay Pixies!

Ooh, okay, this thread has taken a turn...

My strategy is NOT to hide until it's over... it's the /addignore for anyone running repeating /say's in macros, no matter how infrequently. This preserves sanity, and makes it so I can actually hear the patrons when they come in.I danced in Theed for two days, in absolute peace and quietexcept for the patrons who came inthis way.

Now, I have a reason for this. During those two days in Theed, I ran into about a dozen people who came in looking for live, ATK performers. And when they found me there, they felt that there was still hope for the profession. When I told them that I had created a guild with the goals of preserving quality, ATK entertainment and training a new generation of never AFK performers, they were overjoyed. Not only was I tipped VERY well, I was given additional donations in cash and items to help fund and supply my guild.

And those players that I met said they'd be telling their friends and guilds.

Had I not been there showing that some of us still care, these patrons may never have known that we're still around. I gave them hope in the future of our profession, and they gave me hope that players out there still care about us.

Now, I understand everyone's frustrations. Believe me, I do. I sometimes wish there was a general TEF for AFKing, so the blaster bolts could fly. But I will not let them drive me out, and I will not let the patrons who still love the live, professional entertainers down. I will continue to prove the worth of dancers by being out in public, being as friendly as I can to the patrons who come in, and providing a new hope for the future of our cantinas and show halls for those who miss it.

And I encourage the other live entertainers to reconsider just sitting it out. We're needed out there... right now, maybe more than ever. There are players out there who appreciate us as socializers, as entertainers, even justas buffers... as long as they know there's a real person, right there, at the keyboard for them. I know it doesn't seem like it at times, but they're there. Let's not let them down.

I have to say, I'm a getting a little tired of all the combat people yelling about cantinas full of zombies. Not because I dont agree with them, but because if you walk anywhere where there is a large permanent spawn of creatures, you will see Combat Macroers killing all day and all night. I saw a guy go from Novice marksman up to commando standing in one spot over Keren for days, killing gnorts and chubas. I don't go to the commando boards and yell and scream about how zombified they are (because I know most arent, and those that are don't care one way or another what I have to say). Macros are part of the game..they are built into its structure. If you don't like entertainer Macroers then don't tip them, don't watch them, don't encourage them if you dont want to, but pleasedon'tcomplain about them either.

Also, you have to realize that the vast majority of afk zombies are hologrinders. Not all, but most of them are just letting their computer run to hit master, and will drop it 2 seconds later. They're not entertainers, and could probably care less if you tip them or that you don't like them being there. Heh, most of the "true" entertainers wish they weren't there either. So, we're definitely in the same boat here. They won't all be gone when the hologrind is over. But, I have a feeling (and a hope) that when the hologrind is over, you will actually see more atk players entertaining than afk players. Whereas, right now, it's just the opposite. And, the truth is, most "true" entertainers don't even go in the Cantinas anymore. Many of us feel driven out by the afk players because our cantina experience is no longer enjoyable.

I went to both Coronet and Theed today (true!) in the hopes of selling some mindbuffs and trying to have a good time. I know that I can usually make decent money if I go to the more populated places. Of course, I had no problem whatsoever selling mindbuffs. But, I wasn't really having a good time. After a brief stay in both places I just had to leave. Too much spam, and in both places the group was playing more than one song at the same time. So, when you go to these cantinas and you are not having a good time, I'm right there with you. I know there are a lot of atk entertainers who just won't go anymore. We were driven out of our hot spot, and that pretty much sucks. But, like I said, I really do think that's only going to be temporary. Hopefully soon enough, we can return to our "homes" and the players that want to see the atk people entertaining will get to. The ones that don't won't care that we're actually entertaining, so it won't have a negative effect on them. The people that would never pick up entertainer except to get Jedi won't be there anymore. Even the afk'ers will presumably want to be an entertainer at some point, and that gives me hope. All around, it's going to be a good thing for everybody, and make a lot of people happier. I look forward to that day. Until then, I apologize on behalf of the rest of us for not being there. But, hopefully you can understand why we can't stand to be in those Cantinas right now.

I've got a character on intrepid (Tazra) which has recently mastered dancer, and I'm proud I was at the keyboard almost all the time. I wasn't out the room while doing it anyway. I did use a macro though, I have nothing against those as (not only are they in the game but) it meant I could talk and socialise while dancing. But the afk performers who are only in it for a holo grind do annoy me. It's not really their fault though, more that the whole system is messed up. I think the professions should be enjoyed by those who work through them, maybe that's not possible all the time, but you shouldn't have to do a whole profession if you don't like it or have any interest in it.

It took me a while to get back into performing after a long time doing combat stuff, but I soon enjoyed the whole feeling of a community that you get with (most) entertainers.
