do people really think that being annoying is advertising?

I wonder this same thing every time I hear one of those loud, obnoxious, over the top TV or radiocommercials for some car dealership .. . . . as if screaming at me over the TV set is going to make me want to visit you in person . . . . /boggle So, yes, apparently there are a lot of people out there who think being annoyingwhile advertising their products works . . . . Go figure . . . .

So when my gut reaction is to freak out about something, I try to force myself to take a step back and see if I'm overreacting. Sometimes I am and I calm down. Sometimes I'm not, and I enter full freak out mode.

So before I freak out, I have a few questions for people, to see if you feel the same way I do:

1) When someone runs a bot script, the whole spam/auto-join/invite-me-now deal, are they a bot, even if they are there at the keys "part" or "most" of the time?
2) Is this harmful to entertaining if people view this person as "ATK?"
3) Am I tired of having to ask these questions, and do I want something to come along that just makes the whole point moot?

Sorry to dredge this out of the all-purpose sticky but I think I wouldn't get many replies if I posted it there. Just a note to anyone who wants to debate the bot issue that the the all-purpose thread is here. I'm just looking for definitions here, not if they should or shouldn't.

1) In my restricted world-view if you leave the keyboard while your avatar is buffing then you are a buffbot. The exception would be if your house is on fire and you must flee for your life. In that instance I'd accept that it was much more important for you torun away than to take the time to stop, sit, and logout.

2) ATK means At the Keyboard. I expect it to mean *always at the keyboard" not *sometimes at the keyboard*. I've heard plenty of people say I'm always at the keyboard unless I'm sleeping, working, etc... WHA???? These people are most definitely not ATK entertainers. They are partial ATkers and they are just as distasteful to me as someone who is only at the keyboard long enough to log in and turn the macro on. Yes I'm in the minority on this but that's my choice and I'm standing by it. The moment someone interacts with a dancer or musician who cannot respond because the "puppet master" isn't there then the entire profession takes another hit. Because once again, they have demonstrated that this profession is so easy it can be done without an actual operator.

3) Yes. But those bots who I haveencountered will never be redeemed in my eyes and will *never* be welcomed in my cantina. I have a zero tolerance policy and I am most definitely not the forgiving type. Once they are on my ban list they are always going to be on my ban list.

I hate that we have to even have these discussions. I hate that I constantly am faced with having to decide if I should "freak out" if someone in my guild uses an "alt" to provide buffs. I never hear people saying X isn't a real Rifleman because... it's way past time that we could stop having the same conversations.

cheers,

Q. F. MOTHER-LOVIN' E.

Alot of us are sick of the hypocritical statements made by "live" players. It's really sad to see somebody pretend to be something they're not. If you're going to play while afk, own up to the fact, and quit friggin' claiming to be a live player. USUALLY ATK does not mean you support live entertainment.
