Thread: Notice how people only care about afk macroers after they did it to get to master
I cared about AFK macroers when I first saw it, and I cared more as I saw it become more and more of a problem. Since I almost never dance in public any more, and 95% of my old friends have dropped their master musician or master dancer skills (and yes, a big reason they did was that dancing in cantinas was just plain No Fun any more), you might think that I don't care--but, well, you'd be wrong. Why do I care? Because even though I started out as a marksman, I got sucked into the cantina crowd the very first night I started playing, and I had a great time. I made friendships then that survive to this day, and I'm convinced I wouldn't've made nearly as many friends if I'd kept to my original plans.
So why do I detest cantinas full of people who are AFK? Because you can't make friends with someone who is AFK. Some people will hit it off with a few good people, but there is no longer the kind of welcoming community that embraced me when I started the game, and that's a great loss. The cantina, when people are actually there, is a great place to meet people. And performing is a great way to get started in the game before moving on to other things, even when you do plan to do other things.
So, you people who claim that AFK macroing is the only way to get experience and that dancing is too boring, consider actually staying at the keyboard when you are logged in and trying to convince the other AFK folks to do the same. I guarantee that if you take your mind off of "how can I make XP the fastest", you'll have a lot more fun.
And if you really want to know about XP, well, it took me about a week of at-keyboard playing to get to 0-0-4-4 dancer, and I had fun every minute I was playing. *That* is how things work when people play the game while they're getting their XP.

Um. I should probably note, however, that it was a very... intense week.

Ah, no, sorry. When I go AFK for more than a minute, my dancer sits down and always has.
Methinks you are a troll, trying to stir up a hornet's nest.

My friend uses AFT macro to level up his char. It's a holo profession and I support him on using it.
After hunting down Krayts with his flamethrower or joining an AH rebel raid or .... you get the picture. Dancer in my humble opinion is just plain boring. His char's been non-stop AFK for 2 weeks and is only 1132. It's painful progress. As soon as it's master, those skills are getting surrendered from what I hear.
Any way, just jumping in here as I've not heard much from those that actually do AFK. Of course, he's careful not to dance in middle of floor and is not barking for tips. He's just there for exp and keeps to himself.
I was about half and half. I dislike the retards who macro right in the middle of the floor and constantly spam for tips (or worse).
But that doesn't mean I dislike all afk or all macros (I use plenty of macros in my normal ATK routines).
Seeing as how I'm not a master yet, have not macro dancing at all beyond a simple Alt-F12 of "/startdance Popular" or whatnot.
I think I tend to prove that wrong, unless of course you wish to maintain that I'm lying publically about my anti-afk opinion or my profession skill boxes.
I was going to say that I have never used a macro but I guessI did create band flourish buttons by creating a single line macro for each command and thendragging those tomy toolbar - I still call them manually and have no macros for flourishes etc.
heck, I even stop dancing or playing to answer the phone...
but other than that I am 100% certified macro free

To be perfectly honest this is something thats always bothered me too.
Theres so many afk dancers and yet no one on the forums supports it, in fact most hate afk-ers with a passion, so where do all these afk-ers go?
Well, after thinking about it, the reason probarbly is that those that afk-macro do not stick with the profession very long and/or do not care as much about it as those that actually played their class so we do not see them posting as much on the boards.

There is no and I repeat NO excuse for clutering up my playing environment with an AFK dancer.
Two words for you that you've obviously never heard (or wish to completely ignore):
Holocron Quest.

Thank you. The FIRST post I have read in several hours that has posited a legitimate reason why we shouldn't AFK macro.
Of course, my question to you would then be: "For those of us stuck with having to pursue a profession we have ZERO interest in, due to a holocron quest, would you think it fair (or would you even want) to have someone present, leveling in Dancer, who is physically present at the keyboard but not at all interested in engaging in conversation with you or anyone else?" Not saying I don't (usually I do, actually), but oftentimes I'll find something I want to do instead, or even just go to work while I'm macro-grinding.
Honestly (I'm not trying to be a jackass, and I will say this post has caused me to consider what I'm doing and ask myself whether I should continue), I must say that certain people have an interest in what is essentially a "Star Wars-flavored chat room." I am not one of them. If you want to talk with me, fine, I'll talk with you to an extent, and I'll even enjoy it. To an extent. However, beyond a certain point, I'm wondering why I'm spending so much time in computer-based chat when I could be out in the real world, meeting people face-to-face.
If I might ask, how about this as a possible compromise? What if I were to AFK macro as part of your group, but off in a corner somewhere? Being part of the group, you and I would still get that XP bonus, and if I'm still in the cantina (but perhaps off to the side) I would still gain the healing XP, but if I'm out of the way, I wouldn't "clutter" "your" cantina.

OH MY GOD... that is depressing...
Two weeks?
Six months (or whatever- basically since day 4) to master swordsman, with much of the same kind of process (95% solo, not ONE single **edit** wussy pet), and not a single complaint on how long THAT took. Didn't use any macros (not that I would even know how to, or if it was even available), and also took two months to build a master swordsmith just because I knew I could make the best swords on Corbantis (and I do) and wanted to be self-sufficient.
Compared to that, two weeks to master Dancer... Well, I guess I shouldn't complain, but I sure as heck ain't gonna do it all at the keyboard.
Still - good point on the dancing out of the way... I'll move out of the way as soon as I get home.
And... if there were any way to automatically refuse tips, I'd be more than happy to do so.
