I can't stand it when people say "hun". Drives me INSANE. Not because I find it offensive or patronizing... just because it's SPELLED wrong. LOL

I knew there was someone else out there like me! Unless they're trying to imply that I'm German in some derrogatory way... lol

Really, though... it's seemed to me that the "hon"/"hun" thing has just become another bit of slang. The cantina crowd says "hon", the PvPers say "pwn".

I say 'Yo', 'dude', 'sweet', and 'peace' a whole lot.

With me, it's entirely too many years of being a paramedic that makes me use it all the time. *shrug*

As a real female living in the south, hun is as natural as a hello. That being said , I rarely say it to someone I dont know. We all have our quirks which makes it an interesting universe. I, for one, hate being called babe by a stranger but let it roll off my shoulder as I know most ppl think nothing of it. I do think some people over use some of the slang...and unfortunately if its someone you know and see a lot it can make you clench your teeth afterawhile. I try to watch my chat for instances of overusing any one word or emote. My hardest one to cut down on is lol....trying to use a variety rather than that one.

I have the right to remain silent...but not the ability
Sashalanda and Myki ingame characters..both just chatter since NGE.Shop location Tatooine Bestine 600m away at -1626 -3068

Living in Britain, i dont really hear this heard that much in normal vocabulary, and i dont use much slang in real life at all (sigh, just my upbringing i guess ) so i tend not to in game either. Anoying in some ways because it may make me look less friendly, and less approchable:/

I hate being called hon or hun. It drives me nuts. It always makes me wonder if the person at the other end is a 70 year old grandmother baking cookies in between flourishes. Ugh.

"Ironically, while researching this piece a representative from Sony asked us to keep in mind that many of the players complaining "weren't playing the class right," and that the class was designed as a solo experience. Such a comment is indicative of the original Ultima Online mistake: not realizing that once an MMO is released to the public, it no longer belongs to the developers, it belongs to the people paying $14.99 a month for the service."

I'm a girl gamer too, but I say it in real life as well so it just carries over naturally for me. It might just come from growing up in the south *shrugs*.

Yep! Same here.

Which part are you taking exception to? The 70 year-old part or the grandmother part?

Most 70 year-olds and most grandmothers I have dealt with usually use "honey" and not shorten it down. heh

I'm a rl female player too and I've taken to occasionallyusing "hun" or "hon" as an expression of warmth towards someone. If I think you're especially nice I might let a "hun" slip.

On the other hand, if I hear a female avatar use "tee hee" for laughter, I may need to give them a virtual slap. LOL! Usually guys playing female avatars use "tee hee". It sound little girlish and condesending to women. I have no problems with "hee hee", everyone uses that.

I guess we all have little things that bug us sometimes.

Another Southern girl checking in here. I'm not sure that I could survive a day without calling someone Hon. I'm going to give it a try today, and if I don't implode I'll let ya'll know how it went!

/laugh
