Gee, what are you all complaining about.

It is just me and my furry feet...no boots...no dress shoes...no options...just my furry white feet.

I would imagine that heels are problematic from a programming stand-point since, to look correct, they would have to change your avatar's height and pitch. If you didn't it would just look like your legsgot shorter. The Sims had this problem as well, which is why high heels were never part of an official release. On really high heels, they would also need to change the way you walk; otherwise, it just wouldn't look right.

Sorry, list making and I couldn't resist this one... hehe...

As a recovering Sims addict, I have to admit I know that's not true. *hangs head* The NPC vampire mesh from Makin' Magic has real heals. They look fine, a lot like the first user made heels (poor Jerome, I think people made him crazy about those heels ). It animates well never the less. I think there were a few other real Maxis heels too.

Anyway, the Sims models are ancient artifacts compared to our SWG models... they can be made to look correct with out too much extra manpower. I'm not saying they will, but they for sure could. *crosses fingers and hopes for a will*

More shoes is something I definately agree with. Even for males in the game.

The problem with anything that has high heels though is the walking/running animations or dancing animations. When wearing high heels you cannot not walk heel to toe correct? That's an issue I see with anything having a high heel. Trust me it will looks strange to see someone in high heels walking heel to toe, and even worse seeing a 3D model doing it.

But other then that. YEAH! more shoes. LOL

Hmm, hadn't thought about the NPCs (never paid too much attention to the ones in MM). In any case, Daav makes the point I was trying to make. While the models are more complex (being that they are truely 3-D for one), the issue itself is the same: walk/run animations would have to change and character height would have to change. Changing height might not be too bad, since that is currently do-able as an ID change, but I'm not sure they would want to re-motion capture the walk (and we all know what happens when they add animations that are not motion captured). Still, it would be cool though.

Give men in this game more lub.. make them some more clothes, particularly in the formal wear line.

And give a full color pallette for all the clothes

Just a little more info on the high heel debate LOL. *tries to sound offical and serious*

I'm trying to remember (I am at work atm.) if the model have enough polygons to flex the ball of the foot, allowing the possibility for them to walk on the balls of their feet.(which is what you do in high heels) If they do then it's a matter of animation adjustments and programming. If there isn't (which may certainly be the case. The feet are an area on the body that gives a3D illustraitor the chance to cut down on his polygon count. More polygons means more chaos with the engine LOL.), then they would have to add extra polys on every model that may wear high heels.

Just adding more info to this. And for the record, I think high heels are a wonderful idea in the game.

Now, I bit my lip the first time you said it (one does hate to nit pick *sigh*), but now you've said it twice! I personally do not walk in heels that way... I roll heel to toe, just like I do in flats. I was trained to walk that way in heels from my very first pair practically by my Pageant Coach (don't be too impressed, pageants are practically required in the deep South from ages 14-17)...

I also know that my model and *coughs* real exotic dancer girlfriends and roommates have been heel toers... other than my training from Roy, the only person that's ever tried to school me in the great art of High Heel walking was my debutant coordinater. She was an ancient Atlanta socialite and really took things like walking and leg crossing seriously... she was also a heel toe proponent.

I have seen both runway models and "dancers" walk ball first in a very cool stompy way... but I don't think it's the norm. My own posture and pitch change very little in heels or flats... so I would be a whole lot of ok with my av being the same way.

The only other case of heeling training I can think of would be Ballroom Dancing... I have almost zero experience with that, but I always thought they were heel toers too (Roy was also a Latin Ballroom dancer... I would think he would have told me any exceptions, he's very thorough, heh). Maybe some one else with some Ballroom experience would know?

On the modeled feet... they look very low poly. They have no arch and are pretty blocky, but the jointing (or bones) are set up correctly to allow for building in heels. There seems to be plenty of room to work from the ankles down to the toes on the existing feet.... but, I'm just a self taught hobby modeler so I can only speculate so much.

Maybe the hawtpants correspondent can try repitching this one.... it does seem to be greatly wished for.

Panthu...

I wont argue how you walk or question your knowledge or background in this. I haven't had the background you have had so your knowledge is one that should beconsidered. Afterall, we're just stating what we know and have seen right? LOL. And there's no reason to bite your lip either Nothing wrong with disagreeing. But I think the main point may be the extremely high heels (4-6 inchers). Stilletos I saw were mentioned here and also on the tailor forums. So that's what I'm referring to mainly.

I edited a high poly scene in a game I worked on awhile back. The character was female and wearing high heels boots. They took a pre-existing walk animation thinking it would be fine. The character walked heel to toe. It went heel-slam-toe, almost slapping the toe down. As an animator and 3D modeler I watch people and how they move. And it almost looks like the ball of the foot and the heel hit the ground at the sametime. Which if animated without a shoe means they are walking on the balls of their feet.

I've also been told that if you put too much stress on the heel that's a good way to break a heel off. I also think the less heel you have the more heel you put into the walk. In tennis shoes you all out walk heel toe. As the heel gets higher you really can't walk as you do tennis shoes right?

Like I said we're just stating what we've noticed and examined.

For sure, granted! I was really just rambling, but I do think this is something wrong in animation. They usually look unatural to me because they are down on the balls. I'm forever saying "uhg, they must have had someone who's never been taught how to walk in heels animate that!" Being only hobby and self taught, I have some pretty weird and fuzzy ideas on modeling and animation though.

But this is besides the point, I'll take any heels we can get!

(Though, Pageant Heels are 4-6 inches... so we are talking about the same height... and yesit does put more wear on the back/bottom of the heels this way, mine are all rounded and ground down on the back/bottom... I'm not saying that it makes more sense, I'm saying that in areas where pretty heel walking is considered important, it's heel toe... and I like for my avs to be pretty over practical. Ok, no more rambling... must avoid the urge to talk about to major loves of shoes and gaming, hehe)

Wow, looks like I started a huge debate on the way the nations women all walk in High Heels

I can't agree with Panthu more though, granted, i have zero game Design or Graphics experience, but I think that any thing we can get in the way of Heels will be a Godsend. if we have to leave the extreme Heels out of the Game because of the Animation problem, so be it, that still leaves us with some Great Pumps, Open Toed Strappy Short Heels, Ballarina Slippers, etc...

I just want some shoes that don't look like a Swiped em from my Husbands closet, or bought them at a Yard sale.
