Thread: If dancers want more tips
(out of character)
My experience is that a majority of people visiting the big cantinas sit down,go AFK (without putting on the sign) and never tip. Most other patrons who do tip give small tips for the healing and in most cases those tips go to whoever wears the least or smiles the most. In small cantinas with less entertainers these tips are usually higher than in places like Theed.
There is a small, tiny, but for me very encouraging minority of maybe 1% of players who make their characterstip HUGE if an entertainer does something special, may it be reciting a poem, using nice emotes, interacting nicely or whatever. After spending hours with, well, the general cantina situation, these people usually really make me smile :-)
However, I must say, that currently most of my creativity I put into the, mmmm..., well..., private kind of roleplaying entertainment. It is usually well appreciated and once a patron goes with my character to the hotel or her villa and pays for the service I know he/she is really up for the performance and interaction and won't just go AFK, LD or leave the cantina when healed up. I noticed that d00ds or jerks or rude people in general are unlikely to pay for something roleplayed, even if it is exotic, so I usually meet a lot of nice and mature people and have a lot of fun :-)But of course they expect much, so I always have to think of something new, something to surprise, fitting their temparament and make it very immersive andin line with my character's storyline... :-))))

i don't get tipped often and I think it is because when I do formal dance i set myself kind of outside the big group because I don't want to step on someone or get in there way when i dance.
Sweety try using formal to dance around your guests, put on a nice dress and bring a sword, position yourself in such a way that you land at your customers feet, they just love that. I made a macro that matches a high level song, I think it's jazz, I think I look very nice dancing to that song and some of the formal flourishes really match the flourishes in the song that is being performed. It looks awesome when they play an emotional set of flourishes and I get down on my knees or hold out my hands it adds that little extra.
I agree though, alot of performers just stand and run a macro... I have no problems getting tipped, I just roleplay my life, I talk to customers, sometimes I play with my pet, talk to my tailor, sometimes I play role of cantina mistress putting on a Administrator robe when my action is low and I just walk around and welcome guests, ask if they are having a good time, try to make them feel welcome.
I had a conversation with a guest last night about AFK macroers and he said he always sends a /tell to see if it's worth tipping the entertainer, we talked for a while and I did my formal dance as I described above and when he left he gave a big tip and he admitted that the tip was more for my interaction then my level 4 Healing or dancing skills.
I think I'm just trying to say, if you put in effort to entertain and interact then money comes on it's own... And I've never asked for a tip ![]()
Cheer Denisa,
That is my experience too. While RebSoldier's ideas are great, they are very difficult to implement and (IMHO) wouldn't pay well anyhow. It's fun to try them though.
Just like Denisa, I find simply being active and engaging with the clients brings in more than enough tips. No need to ask for money, it just comes. What is required is charm, wit, style and a little flair. I usually have one or more story lines running depending on who's in the audience.
For me, dancing is fun, engaging and difficult. I usually end a 2-hour session with sore wrists from trynig to keep up with all the /tells and bar chat.
As for tips? Well I don't do 'private' dances or lapdances and I don't beg for tips. While income varies a lot, I think I average just about 10K an hour of dancing during prime time, so I have no complaints. I mostly dress 'classy' but I change around a lot and will dress 'risque' if the bar mood swings that way. I have 5 hot keys devoted just for shoes - lol.
