Thread: SEAs?

I am merely trying to acertain if this was an issue we should be talking about.

I have heard many complaints that the old SEAs were rendered useless and that many of us have paid significant amounts of credits to have them. I also recall that some developer (perhaps it was JFreeman), made a comment in a previous forum afew monthsago that they were looking into the problem of the loots that were undermined. I am trying to find that post, but the thread may have been deleted.

If we are going to go to an enhancement-only model, then obviously any lootsthat creates a mechanics difference in magnitude will be critical to the viability of the dancer in a much more direct sense than they ever were in the old game. Without a mechanic like BF that has no room for a distinction of magnitude, then basically dancer will become a "capital loot based profession," similar to some crafting and combat professions.

If we are to go that route, then I think we have a right to know this is the plan. And indeed, it will benefit some at the expense of others, as most changes do. A "capital loot based profession" doesn't distinguish between avatar gender, avatar appearence, or "charm." But what a capital loot based profession does do is make this profession not about entertainment, but about acquiring loots so we can do our jobs.

I share Esharra's concern that the reimplementation of SEAs and other loots to create a magnitude difference in buffing between two dancers will undermine this profession. Then again, if I had a +125% suit, and I could do everything this profession could do 25% better than anyone without one, I'd be most pleased.

So what we need is a developer view of the issue, and our own stance as a community, before we are dealt with a juggernaut we won't be able to control.

A few of my friendsmanaged to piece together +25 for music and +12 for dance for me before mind buffs were removed. It was hideous looking and I wore it only for them and only when they were engaged in pvp (they are really the only players I ever buffed anyway).

I would love to see SEAs converted into something useful for dancers..especially something that contributes to *our* fun. I think it would be in our best interest to discourage anything that would let our "value" or "skill" as dancers be determined by the amount of SEAs we have acquired. For this game to becomea game for us, I think a dancer's skill at providing entertainment should be our means of competing with each other.

They'd have to be rewards for Entertainer quests or something...or alternate rewards for doing quests on Kashyyyk and stuff. Maybe for cheering up some Wookiee captives or something. This, of course, presumes we'll someday be able to really experience the content most everyone else does in this game.

I had preposed something in one of my other threads about how we could make missions better, and allow us to get loot without combat.

It involved missions that took you out into areas to perform for camps of NPCS. and after the performance you could talk to the people in the camps and they could give you random loot based on what drops from the planet.

Didnt seem to take off so well tho, as no one posted replys to it =/

I am hopeing that the new buffs that come out will remain the same as Insperations. Meaning that you don't need to do any flourishes to get the buff, just be dancing period. That way people can still focus on making their dance/song look/sound good, while still performing buffs.

I really don't see why people are assuing that SEA's are going to be reinserted like they were.. and I really never saw SEA's as that big a deal myslef, Never used(when I was a Musician)or use themnow, and never cared if the ent I was watching was using them.

Currently I believe that the SEA's that still work only drop the buffing speed by.. somehting like 10 seconds... (From 60 Sercons to 50 Seconds) Not that big a deal if you ask me.

Granted I don't know what's actually coming, but based on the way things are working now and what seems to be their intent for such things, my guess would be that any SEA's for entertainers will probably do little more than make us faster at whatever they enhance. I suspect that the days of enhancing whatever Entertainer mechanics are left in terms of 'quality' or 'amount' ended with the CU, and that all we will see going forward is enhancements in efficiency or speed.

I personally think it's a double edged sword. Having a +16 Mind enhancement suit myself I would like to see it become usefull again. I can understand the worry about buffbots but hopefully the devs can work out a solution that makes them usefull again without risking buffbots returning.

No more quests, please. I'm sure I'm not the only player who isn't keen on quests. It's one of the things thatmade SWG stand out over other games, non-quest based. Having Kashyyyk quest based is bad enough and any more of those and it won't be the game I started playing nearly 14 months ago.

Nah I'm not too keen on quests, never seem to find the time to finish them (then again if I stopped idling the cantina's I might get more done). My journal is full of half completed quests.
