I seriously don't understand how you people can so adamantly defend a profession that's incredibly boring. Unless you truly only play about an hour a day I can't imagine the trudgery of sitting there manually doing flourishes waiting for people to show up to 'watch me'. I don't mean to sound condescending but seriously how can that be fun? Are you hardcore entertainers a form of hybrids mix and matching combat professions with your entertainer professions? Do you get bored and somehow feel it would be more fun/interesting to sit in a cantina playing an instrument compared to going out and doing the geno cave or the corvette or possibly just combat grinding doing cash missions?
I play for a lot longer than a hour a day! Where I dance, there aren't usually any other entertainers and who do bother to show up sometimes are usually afk (masters and novices/apprentices alike) so I have lots of interaction with the guys that come in to be healed and buffed. It's also a great way for me to recruit for my guild
I don't usually get bored with dancing unless there is an extended slow period. I'm also working on pistoleer, which I enjoy greatly despite the broken specials. That doesn't mean I'm bored iwth dancing though. I enjoy both equaly and if I ever give up dancing it will be with regret. This is just me though. I've always loved combat and never thought I would enjoy this prof unitl I tried it. Now I love it. Every body has profs that suits their personalities. For me a combo is great. For others, strictly social is perfect and for still others strictly combat is it. (You would NEVER catch my husband dancing:smileyvery-happy
That's what makes this game great. We can be whatever we want. If this prof is boring to you, I understand. Then jsut don't do it. We on this board, however, love this trade. In the interest of rp, having an entertainer from your guild ( or an ally's) in the right place at the right time, can be advantagous. I can learn alot about other guilds and their activities jsut by being quiet and listening sometimes![]()
There are lots of aspects to this prof to enjoy! I invite you to try it sometime, if you haven't before. Any one of us would be more than willing to help you through the process.
At least after that xp, you will have had an education and be able to make an informed opinion about whether or not it is for you.
Oh and by the way, I use a macro to dance so I have lots of time to make friends and just have fun!

You know, when I first heard of the Dancer profession, I thought that same exact thing. Wow, how incredibly boring is that? But it was so vastly different from anything that I've played before (and believe me, I've played too many MMORPG's)that I decided to create an account and specifically start a Dancer.
I loved it. Every character I've started ever since has been a Master Dancer/*insert other profession here*. A friend gave me a holo, I decided to give up Dancer for a while and chase the elusive FSCS. After a couple weeks of combat (I got BH as my 1st holo *blech*), I missed beinga dancer so much I gave up the Jedi dream and re-mastered Dancer. Hehehe. Guess I'm just a Dancer at heart.
My point is, no one can really try to *make* you understand why we like being Dancers. It's just something you have to do yourself and decide if you want it or not. If you do, great! If you don't, you can at least respect the people who are able to do something you can't.

The majority of you it seems have majorly mistaken the meaning of my post. I haven't pushed my view or opinion or in any way tried to imply how you should play the game. The entire paragraph was 1 big questionasking what those who so adamantly defend the profession enjoy about it, how it's fun and interesting and why you attack those who just want to play their jedis. If somehow you mistook my meaning or post as a lecture it wasn't my intention.
Sorry if I misunderstood you. If it was just a curiousity thing, then I certainly invite you to nicely ask any questions you have. So to answer your question: There a lot of reasons why I enjoy this prof. I never thought I would but I do. I've met some really great people doing this. I learn alot about other profs and what's good and bad about them. I get to learn about other guilds and what members are like ( one reason why I joined who I did) It's how I met the man who recruited me and my husband into our current guild. When I first started playing there were about 3 people who went out of their way to help me and being able to give them free mind buffs is one way I can return the favor. I enjoy being able to do that. I never thought I would enjoy interacting with other chars in this manner but it's so different from doing it with a combat char ( like I was before) that I'm actually really enjoying it. It's a nice change. Also, it gave me an alternative to doing the same combat missions over (although I haven't done the 'vette yet) and still make decent money ( nothing enraged rancors give a night but a decent amount) It's also a nice feeling having people seek you out for something instead of going to others all the time. I'm fortunate that where I dance I don't get harrassed harldy at all now so it makes my xp that much more enjoyable. People seem to really appreciate my services there and that's always a good feeling.
I can't fully explain it I don't think but I hope that gives you some idea.I still invite you to try it sometime.
I understand if you won't. My husband shivers if I suggest it to him![]()

Wow... you should put that ego down. It MUST be getting heavy.
We adamantly defend it because we LIKE it. You are not the end-all and be-all of SWG professions. There are a lot of us (myself included) that don't really care for combat. I have three accounts, and only one is geared toward combat. And that's only because I'm in a PvP guild. I would take dancing and chatting any day over combat stuff. At least during my cantina hours, I can talk to other people, instead of standing in the middle of a field spamming flame cone 2.
We do it because it's FUN, COOL & DIFFERENT. Oh and....

Dancer is the first profession I mastered. I did it because I wanted to. I enjoyed the social aspects of this profession. Yes, I get bored doing the same things over and over, but that goes for combat as much as dancing. My original template of master Dancer/TK/Brawler allowed me to have a wide range of playstyle. It's hard to put into words how much fun it is to defeat a master Bounty Hunter in PvP with my Master Dancer title on.
Since those days, I've taken up hologrinding. Having a jedi character would increase my range of playstyle even more. I dropped dancer and AFKed my way through Musician and Entertainer *gasp*. Having mastered Dancer without going afk, I wasn't about to do the whole grind for the other two professions without going AFK sometimes. Been there, done that.
Some of you have taken issue with this person questioning your ability to have fun with the dancing profession. You have made valid points that people have different playstyles and you shouldn't knock something just because you don't think you would enjoy it. I wish more of you would apply this same line of thought to your own opinions towards hologrinders. Hologrinding is a playstyle too. All I want to do is expand my playstyle options. As with the dancing profession, some people don't understand that hologrinding is something that can be enjoyed. I have had fun getting to know how 26 (so far) professions work. I may even continue to grind through everything, even bounty hunter, after I get my jedi slot. It would complete my badge collection and I would gain an understanding of how these other professions work.
After all is said and done, I think there's a strong possibility I will go back and remaster Dancer in the future because thatoriginal template is the oneI have enjoyed the most so far.
sorry for the double post

combat gets boring going ut andgrinding away a combat profession is boring as all hel and yes i have a combat profession and ya i do the dungeans ive beat the vette 4 times now. but I love entertainer its fun i like the dancing i like talking to people and i dance in ah so occasionly if things slo down i can join in on the pvp. if you dont like entertaining dont dso it but dont put us down because we do. personally i cant imagine why anyone would grind out over 20 some proffesion just to get a charecter that if the use there powers in front of people or even npcs they get on bh terminals get killed and lose skills so they end up grinding away alone.
P.S yes i know my speelin is atroucious so before i get a reply telling me how tupid iam for that im dyslexic chill the hell out.
Actually, ShaiLyn,hologrinders nevered bothered me. I understand that you don't want to take a year or so grinding out profs to get your jedi slot and I certainly don't blame you. I wouldn't want that either. It's just the way the game works for now. I,personally, wish you luck with your goals!
Einhinder, I don't think you were stupid because you misspell words, although I'm sure you've seen enough of that in your life. However,if you read WChase's next post after his/she's first one, you would see that WChase said that the post was misunderstood and it was not the intention to be taken the way it was.
