Thread: Who Buffs Whom?

We obviously very much disagree on this point. I do not one iota think we'd make more if everything was automatic.

My next question for you is this: SWG has been up and running live for a year now. This entire time we have been able to heal people's mind wounds and battle fatigue by the exact same method you are proposing that we be able to buff. In that time, I have seen the frequency of tips getting lower and lower. It's common knowledge that the vast majority of people, probably 95% or so, come into any Cantina, get free heals, and leave without so much as a thank you, much less a tip.

Why do you think that anything would be different for buffs? Why do you think that the glaring example that has been provided to us in regards to mind wound and battle fatigue healing and the behaviors expressed there are any different than they would be for free buffs? I don't get it.

Also, keep in mind, most of the bots *aren't* laughing all the way to the bank. Why? Cuz they ain't gettin' any money! That's the point. Why? Because essentially, the bots are making it as easy as possible for the players of this game to get in and get out and get buffed for as little effort as possible, without any compensation. And, quite frankly, that's exactly what you're proposing for the live players. You're asking for us to be turned into bots as far as the player community is concerned. Honestly, all of the people that use the bots...do you think they care how entertaining you are? If they did, they'd go to you instead of the bot in the first place. No, they will use us just like they use the bots, and they will not compensate us for it, just like they don't compensate us for mind wounds and battle fatigue healing.

It's PRESENCE, and there's no way we're going to get tipped just for that. I don't care how many coy innuendos and ribald comments you include in your witty dialogue.

This thread gives me a headache. At a time when we're finally looking to get dev attention, Sirii is saying take all the power away from us? Don't give us ANY mechanics to deal with at all? Let's give the buffing away like we give away the healing, so Sirii can make her fortune being the most intriguing "personality" in the cantina?

No thanks.

I want MORE control - not less. I want to deliver the buff to the patron in the same manner as doctors do (meaning that I control the method, not that I necessarily want buff packs). I don't want the patron to have ANY control or power over my service or my ability to provide it.

Thanks for the proofread, La'. Just goes to show that one should be extra careful when typing so late at nite. But I wonder how much power we really have right now over the buffing process besides some protocol that buffbots disregard with impunity? After all, the patrons still have to /watch. I do not want to take the power away from live dancers. I am merely looking at solutions to give live dancers more power. And the power that I want for live dancers is the ability to make their mechanics more available than the current system allows if they so choose. To reduce the mechanical and psychologicalbarriers and protocols between dancer and patron so that we can buff more people. So that patrons do not have to worry about receiving a buff at the cantina, and can enjoy the experience for what it is. So that we do not have to worry about "getting it right," rest easy, and have fun. Like the old days again, La'. And to tell you the truth, there are entertainers that are far more intriguing than I that may benefit from this. Like Creeva from Intrepid, whodoes not buff very often, I would suspect, because of all the things that make buffing today not very fun.

But don't worry. The current safeguarded system won't go away anytime soon. If anything, SOE will give us more safeguards and complexities in dishing out the mechanics in the future. Like /flourish 7 for a reduced healing time, or something equally contrived. And all I want us to consider at this critical juncture is the notion that perhaps--just perhaps--by putting the emphasis on granting protocols, we end up placing the emphasis on something other than why we play this class; to be entertaining.

I understand what you are saying. You just want to make the buffbots null and any dancer in the joint just as useful as them. Its just a different look at what most of us feel. We want the buffbots stopped.

I just fearusing this methodwould make it back to how it used to be. Folks come in and grab any dancer at random and run to the back of the cantina to sit and heal AFK just so we don't talk to him and he get 100% benefit from our performance without actually watching. I felt used, unappreciated and nothing more than an NPC healer. It was a frustrating feeling.

I hope there comes about a way thatstops the usefullness of buffbots while enhancing those willing to actually play a dancer, not just go through dancer motions. I doubt buffbots will disappear entirely, I suspect most are second accounts created just to buff themselves. But make it not worth their while to keep the soulless dancer up and running especially in a already populated cantina.

Taking away any and all active control over distribution of buffs, in my opinion, will not help the buffbot situation. Rather, it will expand it in spades.

Instead ofonly those botswho spent additional time developing specific buffbot macros, now any and allAFK Novice Dancers or higher would be an effective buffbot. Even while leveling.

Any consideration that somehow tips would be better if all buffs were just there for the taking should consider carefully this:

Did tips for BF/mind wound healing improve when the AFK hologrinders flooded in?

Yes, history can repeat itself. If there is no active end for buffing, I'm saying it now... entertainers will be devalued even further by the general community. Mark my words.
